I received an estimate of around 8,000 possibly more if root canal needed. I got a second opinion for the same work I paid 2,100 for the same dental work. I scheduled with this dental group for an emergency visit. My crown came off and I was in extreme pain. After X-rays and an exam, I was told that the reason my crown fell out was due to serious decay, and that the only way to resolve the pain as a $500 tooth rebuild to hold me over until they could give me a root canal ($2500). They refused to glue the cap back on temporarily. I was also told that to schedule a spot for the root canal I had to put $1500 down, which I did. I felt pressured to do so, but was told this was my only option as the tooth was seriously decayed. I got home and realized I didn't have my old crown. I called and it had been thrown away. I had to demand that they find it, then picked it up. I placed it back on my tooth with some dental wax and was immediately out of pain. At this point, I decided to check Yelp reviews and read that this office often had prescribed procedures that weren't necessary (and very expensive). Next morning I asked for a refund and made an appointment for a second opinion with a different dentist. After more X-rays and exam, he found absolutely NO decay! The crown's adhesive had just failed. He said that he had heard the same about Seabreeze Dental Group from many other patients who came to him after having terrible experiences there. I almost spent $4k to have a completely unnecessary root canal! Grateful for Yelp and to all of you who took the time to post about your experiences there. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT GO HERE!!! They try to sell you services based on false information. They told me I needed a deep cleaning and charged me for half of the procedure upfront ($200+) before I even had it done. I didn't feel right about it, so I requested a refund and switched to a new dentist. Sure enough, no deep cleaning needed! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Additionally, they did not send my X-rays to my new dentist on time after asking them to several times.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had to get new ones done that, thankfully, my new dentist was gracious enough to offer for free, since my insurance would not cover additional X-rays. AND the dentist was sooo rough on my mouth, even after expressing to him that I had a particularly painful gum. Went to office for root canal paid for the root canal and new crow. couple thousand bucks..... 3 weeks after crown I start experiencing pain. Root canal was not done right. Need to redo it. Ok Most doctors or any other business when they failed on their job first time they would offer discount on second try. Nope Seabreeze wanted full price for new root canal and New Crown!!! WTF? Was in for a root canal and a crown on 1/8/25. First off the root canal specialist had a bunch of thinly vailed sexual comments like "oops I think I squirted on you when lidocaine came out of the needle. Then he hit me with the "I'm good at keeping mouth open". He did a fine job but could do without the bedroom talk. Then we went on the to crown preparation which was about two hours long. My jaw was hurting so we took a break and the doctor started rubbing my jaw unsolicited and it hurt like hell she started rubbing so hard I told her to stop immediately. Then I asked for something for my pain management and I was told Tylenol was all I needed. Tylenol did nothing and I was up all night with throbbing pain after such a long procedure. I was charged way more than I should have been charged. According to my insurance they should have not charged me an extra out of pocket fee. My insurance submitted an investigation and they said they no longer had my files which was completely false. My crown fell off two years after paying thousands to get it done. I can't believe this dental office has such a good review. Very fancy office. How do they pay for it? By asking patients to have lots of work done that isn't completely needed. The first thing they want to do is get you in their office to show you a quote and offer you discounts if you sign up right away. I had a couple of crowns done and neither one of them was done well. DO NOT GO HERE! TOTAL FINANCIAL SCAM! I came to this office because they took my insurance. Office staff were very kind, no one was rude! BUT after a quick 20 minute cleaning (that in itself should've been a red flag) I had my consult with the dentist and was informed that I needed 8 fillings, a partial crown, and a night guard which would cost me around $2500. This seemed strange to me (I'm only 23, and I floss and brush every day), so I decided to get a second opinion from the dentist I'd seen for years before. I would've seen him to begin with, but again new job so he didn't take my insurance. It was at that checkup that I was told me teeth were COMPLETELY FINE! This establishment is a complete scam and is taking advantage of patients. It makes me sad because i noticed when I was in there that most of the patients were elderly, and are probably being swindled into paying for unnecessary dental work :( STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!! this dentist also has TWO Yelp pages, look up Dr Jessie Halbleib on Yelp to see all the negative reviews. First, I called 3 times to schedule my appointment to get the voicemail when they were supposedly open and got a call back the following week to schedule an appointment. (not a major deal seeing as they might be understaffed right now due to the pandemic) Second, I was there to get cavities worked on and Dr. Halbleib didn't explain what to expect regarding the laser he was using, which I've never had any experience with. MOST IMPORTANTLY: I had my eyes closed during the procedure because it was so uncomfortable and when he was almost done I realized that his MASK WASN'T COVERING HIS NOSE. When I asked the dental assistant after the procedure about it(who was properly wearing his PPE) he responded that "He was old school". The male dental assistant then proceeded to ask me, a 30 something year old woman, if I was naughty or nice this year. To sum it up: I was potentially exposed to COVID and sexually harassed when I just wanted my cavities filled. read more

This was my first visit to Dr. Halbleib. I recently moved to Santa Cruz and had not established myself at a new dental office. I was having a minor emergency in my tooth and after reading countless reviews, ended up scheduling a limited exam with Dr. Halbleib. He began our encounter without introducing himself and did not exchange any sort of pleasantries (strange, as I was a new patient). He began to ask questions about my tooth and all the while his mask began to slip off his nose/mouth. Dr. Halbleib did not attempt to fix his mask until I asked him to please pull his face covering up. He begrudgingly did so, and continued the conversation without even saying "oops" or "sorry about that". When he began to examine my tooth with a mirror, again his mask shifted down below his nose and was barely concealing his mouth (while he was mere inches from my face). I had to sit up and interrupt his examination to ask him to please keep his face covering on while explaining that I live with at risk people and I cannot expose myself to COVID-19. He basically responded by shrugging his shoulders as if he could not do anything about it (fyi, N-95 masks do not slip off at all), seemed completely irritated by my request, did not apologize, and made me feel extremely uncomfortable for the rest of the visit. I am completely disturbed by the absolute lack of respect for a patient's health and comfort, and the general disregard for safety during a pandemic. As a dental office, it is inexcusable to not be using proper PPE, especially when you are continuously exposing yourself to the main area of transmission for COVID-19. Really enjoyed my first visit at this office. It was super clean and Covid safe (all the precautions were in place and 90% of the staff were vaccinated.) everyone seemed very friendly and professional as they explained all my insurance coverage and explained every procedure before it was being performed. Roya, the hygienist was exceptional and my 45+ year old teeth had never been cleaned better and seemed to remain cleaner with an even better deep cleaning... I was overly happy and would recommend this practice to anyone who seems stressed about going to a dental office where you can't feel like you can trust the people working on your mouth/teeth. I felt since day one that I could trust this practice and wanted to share this because I have recommended it to my friends and family. The ladies up front were so sweet and helpful. Angel, who took my xrays etc.was nice and friendly. When it comes to the dentist, he may have greeted me with a smile, but that was about the only pleasant part of my visit. Not only did he degrade and continuously shame the condition of my mouth( which I was aware of) he totally disregarded the whole purpose my visit regarding my Workers Comp situation.
