Update 5/2025: The original stitching on back corners of my original canvas tore a bit after reinstalling the tighter fitting re-zippering and canvas adjustments for shrinkage over time. I called Scotty and he took care of the redo of my original stitching by adding some more canvas material and strengthening the corners with nylon backing. Scotty re-covered all 19 of the cushions on my boat and they came out way better than the originals, really beautiful and very sturdy. Then he made me a sail cover, which is not only beautiful, but could survive a hurricane. I can't say enough about what a pleasure it was to work with Scotty. He is very personable, does excellent work, and has a lovely daughter, who played with my daughter and showed her how to make little dogs and cats out of modeling clay. Scott needed to order the hand rails for the dodger from Svendsons and install them. We paid him for the balance. As of today Oct 14, 2021 the job is not finished. The rib pockets on our 10-year old patio umbrellas were coming apart. I called Sea Worthy in hopes that someone who sewed canvas could repair them. In my first conversation with Scotty, as he inspected the umbrellas, I knew here was a person who knew his business and more than that, took pride in his craft. He pointed out other areas that needed repair that I hadn't even noticed. When I picked up those umbrellas, every pocket had been resewn, every seam had been reinforced, and the vent on one of them was reversed (to hide the mildew) and resewn. I had bought a center console cover from Mills Canvas for my 2013 Boston Whaler and had forgotten to tell them I had a radio antenna. After I figured out where the hole for the antenna went I had been looking for someone to clean up my slash cut so the cover wouldn't rip. I found SeaWorthy on Google and given it is conveniently located near Outboard Motor Shop (Whaler Dealer) I called them. It was only about 3 days later and it is done and looks great at a fair price. (It's possible that I may have miscommunicated on some of the precision of my request: I wanted the repair work around the winch areas on both sides of the cover to be symmetrical, and they came back not being symmetrical. I think next time I'll write out my request to make sure the error isn't on my side. (Repost). I've went from Rags to riches w/ Sea Worthy Canvas! Scotty and crew in their convenient Alameda location will take care of all your marine textile needs. The pleasant and friendly intake process started out very professional, customer oriented and solution based. Sea Worthy responded swiftly via phone / texts with relevant design, structure, cost and lead-time information. I advised Sea Worthy that i was replacing an existing, well-worn mainsail cover. I was pleased when Scott took this information and turned it into a customization opportunity to tailor fit the new sail cover exactly to the boats particular configuration and my preferences. I marked up the existing sail cover armed with a a sharpie pen with the desired length / circumference fabric revisions as well as fastener locations, keep out areas and grommet/cordage locations. I made an appointment to drop off the marked up sail cover to the shop. Upon arrival, sea worthy had a large worktable set up outside (Fashionable 2020 anti-Covid19 protection precautions...) to roll out my existing cover (All 15 feet of it!). "Masked" Scotty greeted me and got right to work going over the existing and proposed changes to the cover. Sea Worthy has been in business for decades in Alameda and it shows; there is absolutely no substitute for relevant experience, design and engineering talent and proactive "use" case discussions as to how, when and where the new cover will be used. Sea Worth advised they only use top quality Sunbrella mat'ls, strong underlayment reinforcements, marine grade threads and robust, corrosion resistant fasteners all around. Scott then provided a written quote; I was pleased to find a very fair priced and expeditious lead time for locally made, custom engineered product - I felt comfortable placing a 50% deposit, left my marked up cover with Sea worthy and drove back over the bridge. Seaworthy went to work, quickly ordering in the materials and they started cutting. Within a couple of days, Sea Worthy called/texted to verify dimensions and other preferences. This was a pleasant experience and conveyed the customer focused attention to detail needed to fabricate a truly custom fitted textile. A day or so later, I was delighted to find a "Work in progress" video show up attached to a text message; totally unexpected and truly appreciated gesture from Sea Worthy. A few more days passed and another video showed up depicting the 90 % completion mark and advising that pick-up was near. With confidence after seeing the video, I schedule a "Wide-Window" appointment that Scott graciously accommodated. Upon arrival for pick-up, Sea Worthy then laid out the new cover on the exterior work table and went over the entire design and fabrication results. They also returned all materials I brought to them for reference. I gladly paid the balance and proceeded back to SF to test fit the product to the boat. I noticed immediately the robustness of the new sail cover - this is a 20-30 year product. I rolled out the cover over the boom and fastened it - the expression "Fits like a glove" immediately came to mind... - it was perfect. I am having Sea Worthy now remake my 35' jib sock as well as other accessory textile items. I ordered a new sail cover from Scott, gave him my credit card to cover the purchase of material and left thinking the cover would be completed in two weeks. He left me multiple messages on my home phone because he had failed to write down the expiration date of the credit card but when I tried to return the call on six different occasions, I only got his voice mail and it was full. When I finally reached him in person, I told him about the voicemail issue. He then informed my the cover would not be ready as promised because he had lost a week. However, on his message, he had indicated that he had paid for the material with his own card which would indicate to me that the work had not been slowed down. He left me more messages this week, and again when I attempted to call him, I got his voicemail and it was still full. When I finally reached him, he said he was not going to do the sail cover at all. read more

I took a section of my boat canvas off to bring home to clean then waterproof when the Strataglass panel began to break while I was cleaning it. (disappointed that it only lasted 5 years) This was on a Saturday, I called Scotty at Sea Worthy on Monday and told him what had happened. He told me he would go to the boat the next morning which was Tuesday then call me with a plan. He called by about 9 am and we agreed on a repair solution and price which I thought was fair. He said he'd be able to get the repairs done ASAP and we agreed to meet the next day at the boat (I live an hour away) so I could approve the repairs and get him payment. When I arrived he was already there at the boat doing some finishing touches and tightening some snaps. Scott not only reseamed with better marine quality, UV resistant thread, he also fixed all of the tears and restrung the piping (rope) around the perimeter of the cover. We acquired a sailboat with a beautiful wardrobe of canvas protective coverings -- everything from a full cockpit enclosure, sail cover, helm cover and nice trim pieces like a winch cover. All of them had originally been crafted by Sea Worthy Canvas. Now, many years later, the elements and normal wear and tear have caused some of the pieces to degrade. We took the helm cover in for repair and Scotty pretty much rebuilt the thing for us! It'll last many years more. We have some other pieces that need to be repaired or replaced and Sea Worthy Canvas is where we'll take them. They do a great job and it's great to support a local craftsman that appreciates your business. We need to support great businesses like this and I can highly recommend Sea Worthy as a great vendor for high-quality canvas work. Dec 2013 update: We did take those other pieces to Sea Worthy to get them fixed. A cracked plastic windshield and side windows were completely replace and made as good as new. He also fixed some rejuvenated our main sail cover. We have now acquired a second boat, a power boat this time, and it needs some plastic windshields replaced also.
