I had an experience face to face with this guy, Matthew Peterson owner of "Fast Bottoms". He quoted me a really high amount to clean my boat's bottom. When I informed him that is at least 50% higher than market value he started referencing my nice boat, custom full enclosure and davits, self-tacking jib, etc., ... and my car! I asked him what my car has to do with anything and he said, "Your a Beemer-Owner (BMW) and can afford it!" He mumbled something under his breath and when I asked him to repeat himself so I could hear - he refused. Needless to say with this psycho right there. Later that week I told the shipyard about this guy and they also warmed me about him and told me he goes by several aliases on-line, one being: "fstbttms" on www.SailingAnarchy.com So I google him & his alias and searched www.SailingAnarchy.com website for "fstbttms" find all this really negative and crazy stuff with tons of insults to boat owners and profanity he puts there! Update on my earlier review below: Because I keep my boat plugged into dockside power full time and that it has a large aluminum saildrive and costly Flexifold prop, I am paranoid about keeping the zincs up to snuff so as to prevent galvanic corrosion. I am pleased to report to others who might be considering Fastbottoms that: 1) they do indeed do what they say vis-à-vis the zinc replacements, 2) the cleaning is thorough...not just the main hull, but also the rudders and running gear, and 3) the boat's antifoul is lasting much longer than other Bay Area owners who have the same boat with the same antifoul paint and who use other bottom cleaning firms. In fact, for the past year I've used an underwater camera to confirm the condition of the rudders, thru-hulls, bottom and zincs and can report back that all work was done to the best standards. I've used other 'cheaper' firms, but as the saying goes, 'you get what you pay for'. The trust Fastbottoms has gained is well deserved. read more

Our boat is a 55' sailing catamaran. We first became acquainted with Matt for a MaxProp propeller installation. He was able to install the prop underwater and re-pitch the other MaxProp propeller. This type of work is a long, long way from scrubbing the bottom of a boat. Matt's skill level in underwater work is exceptional. With regards to bottom cleaning, Matt's level of technology (underwater power scrubber) is leading edge in the recreational marine market. We use Matt for our regularly scheduled bottom maintenance. He has never missed a date and always sends us a comprehensive report (status of bottom, running gear, rudders and anodes) in a timely fashion. I have been using Matt to clean my 34ft race boat since 2005. The bottom line with divers for racing is that they need to show up when scheduled - Matt has never let me down. The other important thing is that they need to clean an already well-maintained bottom carefully to get all of the slime off, and they need to be trustworthy, because you don't get the chance to check before racing. You do get the chance to check if you have a collision and need an emergency haul-out which has happened a couple of times to me. In both instances the guy at the Travelift picked up the pressure washer to clean the bottom, took a look at the boat and dropped it - no need to wash because it's already perfect. read more

I have been using FastBottoms diving for six of seven years. At the spur of the moment I had decided to enter my boat in the SSS Corinthian race last Wednesday. Late night that Wednesday with two days left to race date, I emailed Matt requesting a a dive. He got me a clean bottom on Thursday afternoon and we went on to finish 5th in our division on Saturday. This guys is a real "piece of [something]"... all mouth and no work. He way over charged me for a very bad bottom job - he didn't clean the prop-shaft, propeller, nor the keel. He only did the sides and about 2 ft down or so. He didn't know I had a hull-out the day after he did the bottom job so we caught him! Also tried to get a couple of my good old buddies on the dock for the same price gouge and scam on hull cleaning. We are over 65 so, isn't there some laws about taking advantage of seniors? read more

Fast Bottoms has been doing hull cleaning on my 34ft racer/cruiser sailboat for almost 10 years. He has been dependable and thorough throughout this time. The diver has been careful not to over scrub the ablative bottom we use which extends the useful life of the paint. His rates are competitive with other services in the area. I have been using FastBottoms since 2011. They are completely reliable, which is pretty unusual in the hull cleaning business. I use an ablative bottom paint that requires very careful cleaning so as not to ruin the paint. I'm getting an easy two years out of it, thanks to FB's careful work, and probably to go to three years if I did not have other reasons to haul out. read more

Matt has done the diving on our boat Luna Sea for many years. He does a fantastic job and we all consider him a very important member of our race team. Been using Matt for nearly 7 years now for my 31ft boat and he's always done a great job. Rates are the going ones for the area, most charge around the same per foot and for zincs, however I've found communication, billing, and payments to be easier than with other diving services. read more

I've been working with Matt for several years. I've never had an issue. The hulls are clean and the zincs changed (Matt leaves the old zincs for me to inspect later). He has also been amazingly responsive and always ready to help when something comes up. Five stars well deserved. read more
