My partner, his family, our friends, and I arrived here in mid-July to begin our 7-day cruise to Alaska. Getting from the airport has never been easier. It takes 45 minutes to get between the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and the heart of downtown Seattle by hopping on the Sound Transit Link Light Rail. The airport can get very busy during peak travel hours, so extra time is always a good idea. Security lines were well organized, but they can still be lengthy. The terminal was generally clean, had clear signage, and was well maintained. However, the food options for takeout are somewhat limited, and many of the shops tend to offer similar products. Our overall experience was very good and reliable at the airport as first-timers.

So packed, in fact, that finding an empty seat was practically a scavenger hunt. Every restaurant had a line, the restrooms had lines, and the ladies' room lines were literally out the door. At some point you have to wonder: Seriously, can we expand this place already? The one bright spot was a hidden little gem outside Terminal B called Brewtop Social. You have to take an elevator up to the second floor, but once you get there, you can actually sit down, watch the planes, and enjoy a surprisingly good club sandwich. It is expensive, but honestly, after fighting your way through the rest of the airport, finding a place to sit with a sandwich and a view felt like winning the lottery.

I wish all airports would let you stretch your legs and strut from one end of the terminals to the other, like Atlanta does. All that being said, SEA and the North Satellite Terminal are in overall good condition and the letter/numbering system is straightforward and easy to follow. Like most airports, stairs are an after-thought yet all of the escalators and aforementioned trams were in good condition.

Also, there is $8 option. If you have a T-Mobile account then it is free. We flew on a 737-900 series. The first class seats were large and comfortable. After arrival to Seattle airport, we stopped by to talk w customer service agent. Cynthia (4 Stars) assisted us to see if we could change an our flight to ANC for an earlier flight. We had a 8 1/2 hour layover and we noticed there was an earlier flight. We were willing to seat in Premier or Coach instead of First Class. She contacted customer service phone line to get assistance. She thought because of our First Class seats, we would be able to chance the class seat but the person told her due we would have to exchange our first class for another set of first class seats on a different flight. The person couldn't downgrade us to a different class seat selection. Weird! She was surprised herself. We thanked for her assistance. So, I struck out on changing my flights (phone, chat, and physical person). So this where the overall rating is lower than expected. Addendum from SEA - ANC Our first class flight attendant was wonderful. Positive, lots of energy, professional and was very pleasant to talk to. Greeted us when we walked in, had our pre-departure drink within 10 minutes of be seated and had our preorder meals within the hour of the flight. She was delightful. Though the 737-9Max wasn't as clean as it should be. I brush off some crumbs from my seat and there were a couple of coffee stirrers on the floor near our seats. The first class seats are modern but not as cushy as the older seats in the 737-900 series plane. So, would I use them again? Probably, but strictly use mile or pay cash. I think using miles and cash made our flights more difficult to change.

They put me on an itinerary that had zero chance of working. I landed in Seattle at 1:40 p.m. with a connecting flight that boarded at 2:20 -- only 40 minutes to clear customs, get through passport control, reclaim my bag, recheck it, and switch terminals at an already chaotic airport. Predictably, it was impossible. Customs and baggage alone took two and a half hours. I missed the first connection, got rebooked on a 4 p.m. flight, and still hadn't cleared customs by then so I missed that one too. When I finally got through and called customer service, the agent sounded completely checked out -- bored, uninterested, and like she couldn't care less about helping me. She rebooked me again. I specifically asked for any seat that wasn't a middle. When I boarded, the plane had plenty of open seats... and of course I was stuck in row 30, seat E -- middle seat. On top of everything, their first class is a rip-off. It's expensive, the seats barely recline, and it's hardly better than coach. I used to fly Alaska regularly on trips to Oregon. After this mess I would rather drive from LA than ever book them again. Customer service is abysmal, their scheduling is reckless, and the whole experience felt like they just don't care. My friend told me that we were gonna catch the light rail to go to Lumen Field for the Seahawks football game, and he also mentioned to me that we could also stop by Pike Place Market to "holo-holo", as the light rail would take us all the way to where we needed to go. I guess the light rail system has been used in Seattle for sometime now, as I could see there were lots of rail stations throughout the city. The station that we used to get onto the rail was the - Angle Lake Station, because it was the closest station in proximity to where my friend lived. The Angle Lake Station had a very large parking garage. After parking our car, it was a breeze to get onto the light rail & make our way to Pike Place Market, as well as Lumen Field. I can see how effective it is when light rail is built, & utilized properly. It certainly saved us a lot of money in the sense that we didn't have to look for parking while attending the Seahawks game, as I saw some parking places charging like $90.00 for game day parking. More rail stations are still being constructed, and my friend said he couldn't wait till the rail station in Federal Way is finished.

On top of that, you either end up waiting for a train to arrive up to 15 minutes or waiting on your train to leave again, up to 15 minutes or you plain miss your train because they only stop long enough to let the people on get off and the people who are already on the platform get on. One of the mornings when I got off work at 4:30 am, I rushed to catch the train that is supposed to show up at 4:44 am. As I was approaching the train station at 4:42, I watched as my train left the station 2 whole minutes before it was even supposed to arrive and I was stuck waiting 15 minutes for the next one. When I drive to and from work, I get home in about 40 minutes, but this waste of time takes me over an hour. So, in review, I did not save money. I did not save time, and I ended up stressed out and frustrated with their system. Unless you have to, I would not recommend using this train for anything other than getting to concerts and sporting events in downtown Seattle. That is the only time that this train has ever been worth the cost for my family.
