Utility companies and their oppressive new pricing and policies are a joke. This new pricing tier structure that was rolled out as a way to save money has actually doubled our bill. For renters like myself this leaves very little options as Solar isn't viable at this stage of my financial life. It's sad to see how protected and unaffected this company is by their own decision making. They're just dumping their inefficiencies and cost onto the people. I'm looking to move out of California for the many things this state continues to do that increases the cost of living and not represent it's local population. This review will most likely not matter as there is no choice on whether you can go with a different provider. It's shameful to me that companies can get away with things like this and have zero consequence, so here is my wishful thinking that it will matter at all. I am simply trying to log in and pay my current bill. The system is now prompting me for a verification code and states sending to my cell phone, but looks like it is missing a digit. I have now been on the phone for 1 hour and 21 minutes and no sign of help. The website and customer service is so archaic, I am surprised they even have a website. Worst customer service and worst reliability of any company I've done business with. They were supposed to show up 8 to 12 for an appliance check, didn't show, then knocked on my door at 3:45 without any notification. Who cares if they're wearing masks, they can't even have the courtesy of using shoe covers as they go from house to house sharing germs. When they didn't show up, I called and was on hold for an hour before I got frustrated and hung up. Then I tried to chat online, and they didn't answer the chat either. And the worst part of it all is not one of us writing a review on yelp can get a final result from SDG&E (questions unanswered) or "happy ending!" $1,448.63 is my daughters (18yrs old) FINAL BILL sent to collections! Unfortunately she lived with her dead beat father & grandmother who clearly as you can see took advantage of my daughters identity using her Social security #. We spoke to SDG&E today and the only answer we got is *anyone living in the household "IS" authorized to differ payment (make payment arrangements) as long as they have the acct# & social security #!! These people are absolute crooks. I don't know whether to start with the fact that they upcharge SEVERELY during the summer months, when people need to run portable AC units to stay cool in a place with no central air in houses, or with the fact that after moving from California and legitimately forgetting about my last bill, they made absolutely no attempt to contact my wife or I about the delinquent payment before sending it to collections. For one, SDG&E makes me very happy to be a Michigan resident, not a San Diego resident. Two, this company lacks any sense of honesty or integrity and only wants the most money possible within legal limits. If price gouging and a lack of communication are what you desire, go with them for your gas and electric. I'm glad I never even have to let their name cross my lips again! EDIT: To put the summer price gouges into perspective, my wife and I paid an average of $60 during non-summer months. Our electric panel overheated and melted. We are upgrading to 200 amps because 125 amps is not sufficient. We've already been waiting 2 months for a permit. They acknowledged that it's an emergency but are still incredibly slow regardless. At the same time our gas service line that is sdge's responsibility is completely corroded. When they sent someone to turn the gas on, the guy said it was unsafe and ordered the emergency crew to come fix it and said it would be replaced the same day. The emergency crew came and put a temporary solution, something like a clamp, on the gas line and said it would take up to 6 months for them to fix it! It's been 2 months and that hasn't been properly fixed either. It's hard to believe that the most expensive utility company with record profits cannot afford to hire a few extra people. Is there are government in San Diego, any regulations, that can hold them accountable? A complete monopoly with a complete lack of accountability. read more

SDGE have been ok up until I was talking to a Ruby at SDGE on the phone. She was rude, evasive and not helpful. She also didn't seem to know what she was doing. I asked her how long she had been working there since she told me, "it just doesn't happen" when I asked her if I could get f/u email stating what she was telling me. She said, we don't send emails. I asked why since it was an email about a policy she was telling me about. I also was on the phone with her for 30 minutes. Sdge had cut off my power after letting my bill reach $900, Then they demanded that the payment had to be made in full before they would restore service. Sdge Made zero attempts to reach out to let us know they are going to cut off service. I explained that I have an infant and a type 1 diabetic in the house. They did not care and said it had to be paid. They did not even try to work with me. I offered to pay $500 to get the service restored and they said it had to be paid in full. A couple of questions, A. Why would you wait till $900 to cut off service? B. Why would you not alert the customer of the interruption of service? C. Why would you not work with a customer to make a payment to start the service back up? I guess in short you should Vote to do away with this monopoly there are many other problems with SDGE from the defunct nuclear plant that they are trying to make their customers pay for to the wildfires they cause. I am writing to dispute the last two bills my boyfriend and I received from SDG&E. While I understand that temperatures have been high, my bill has been over $250 the past two months when I leave my air conditioner at 74 degrees or higher and turn it over 8-10 hours a day 5 days a week while I am at work. The highest my bill has ever been in the 4 years that I have lived in San Diego is not over $100 despite many heat waves and many surges. When my boyfriend contacted SDG&E about this concern, the customer service representative stated that he checked our meter and that there was a surge in the meter during one of the days we were both at wok and the air conditioning unit, along with all appliance and lights, were turned off. I would like for this to be escalated and reviewed by management as we should not be charged for consuming energy when we have all appliances, lights, and air conditioning turned off in the apartment. We have always and will continue to pay our bills an on time. We simply want to ensure we are not being overcharged and that our concerns are being taken seriously. THEY ARE THE WORST, MOST INCOMPETENT GROUP OF PEOPLE I'VE EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH. I needed to turn on service at my condo - 4 phone calls and HOURS on the phone later, they cannot leave notes on your account or follow through. I first talked to a kid who said he wasn't sure if someone had turned off the meter from outside the condo and they would need to send someone out - but either way the account was switched to my name (taken out of my tenant's name) and they would have electricity on. Then I go to find out that there is no electricity, my freezer has melted and there is water everywhere, so I go and see that they went ahead and turned off the electricity from the meter outside - I turn it back on and call them to say please don't send anyone else, and confirm electricity is on and in my name.....the next kid I speak to says oh ok.. no one is going to come out, the service is connected and in your name...then I get another call from their dispatch about how she needs to go out and see if my electricity is on - I tell her no need, I've already talked to SDGE, it is on, I PERSONALLY TURNED IT ON FROM THE OUTSIDE - DO NOT GO THERE AND TURN ANYTHING OFF - so I call back AGAIN and this time I'm asking to speak to a supervisor - well there are none - I get to wait 24 hours, but the new kid I'm speaking to on the phone is going to leave notes on my account...and oh yea they'll send someone out there so I start yelling NO I DON'T WANT ANYONE OUT THERE AND NO I DON'T WANT ANYTHING TURNED OFF...as I sit here typing this I've spent HOURS on the phone with their obnoxious wait music and they literally can't resolve something as simple as turning on service in the homeowner's name. They are the worst company and I am so upset I am stuck dealing with them and their inept staff. read more

Have an unresolved issue with SDG&E? File a formal complaint with the California Public Utilities Commission. Don't let the CPUC talk you into an "informal complaint". They're all in cahoots and wasting tax payer dollars. They (SDG&E and the CPUC) will literally never resolve your issue unless you file a formal complaint, and it's time they are held accountable. I spent 20+ hours just trying to get them (SDGE & CPUC) to send me a copy of a bill they never sent me when I closed my account, after I got a call from a collection agency with 60 negative points on my credit report, all for a $113 bill I didn't even know I had outstanding! After 20+ hours spent corresponding with the PCUC, who again, is in cahoots with SDG&E, I finally received my bill with the option to pay it, and have it pulled from collections/off my credit report. The cherry on top is SDGE and the CPUC refusing to send me a receipt for the payment I made unless I take more of my time to go through formal CPUC court proceedingsm I've spent over 3.5 hours, just trying to get a copy of the receipt or a zero balance statement, which is a basic right when you make a payment; I still haven't received one and they are outright refusing to send me one. SDG&E is a disgusting and deplorable organization. It's time they get what's coming to them with public denouncement and a big fat lawsuit! read more

I stopped using gas at my house except for some occasional cooking , fearing the rate hike. They still showed I used 13 therms this month and that doesn't make sense all cause I only run electrical appliances. This one star is based on varying deliver rates for electricity. I live in Carlsbad and I am using the CCA electricity (greener electric source) and SDG&E delivery rate was 42$ in Oct, 50$+ in Nov, and this month it is 62$. It seems that when CCA gets electricity cheaper then SDGE raises their rate. My overall bill is in the low 70$s every month either way. I don't think they should be allowed to change the delivery rate every month! read more
