We've been getting the run around-- after 4 phone calls and an email, enough is enough. Donovan always comes up with an excuse and never follows up on appointments if he answers at all. Straight from his website website, "Sculptural Gates... we take pride in each and every gate we fabricate and install." That has not been our experience and from the reviews it looks like others feel the same way. He may be a talented designer but a poor business man. Been working with Donovan and the crew at Sculptural Gates for a couple years now and they've done both install and repair work (as well as some solid troubleshooting of a problem that was impacting their equipment but wasn't actually caused by their equipment!). Donovan can occasionally be a bit hard to get ahold of, but he resurfaces pretty quickly and gets problems taken care of quickly and efficiently! read more

Unreliable. We contacted Donavan to design and build a new driveway gate for our home. He responded, after a few days, and scheduled a time to come out and review our site and to discuss the design. He arrived on-time and we had a great discussion on what would look best, how to make it work properly and his ideas around the design. He was very knowledgable and came up with logical solutions. I was looking forward to working with him. He said he'd have a quote to us by the end of the next day. Disappointingly we never heard from him again. I called him a couple times and texted him, never angry or frustrated, just wanted to know what happened. He simply ghosted us. I think he actually blocked my number after my second text. It's sad that someone with obvious talent is not able to manage a business well. read more

IMO, Donovan Martini at Sculptural Gates is not reliable and does not stand behind his work. They fabricated and installed the new gate at the Diamond A Rec. The fabrication was OK, but the installation was incomplete and defective. The bar holding the strike plate soon became lose and the gate would not secure, a real danger on a pool. Also the closure door opening pressure was set too high, a building code violation. I contacted Donovan numerous time via email, phone message and talking to him live on the phone. I explained the problems and he said would send someone out; he never did. I fixed the strike plate issue by buying and installing longer lag bolts attaching the metal bar holding the strike plate to the wall (the ones he installed only penetrated 3/8" into the wood, which was insufficient to keep the bar rigid and square). The Rec had to hire a locksmith to adjust the door closure to get the building permit signed off. While Donovan has some design flair, the quality of the installation and complete lack of customer service are negatives. Would you want to hire someone who refuses to correct defective and unsafe work? read more

I'm a contractor who likes to do things myself and do them well, but finishing the installation of our own automatic gate was beyond me. I called Sculptural Gates to see if they could help with the finish wiring and their attitude was absolutely positive. Donovan was very understanding and assured me they knew our system (Viking/DoorKing) and would pick up the pieces. Adam, the installer, came out, was polite, well informed, knew exactly what needed to be done and got it done in short order (we were paying them on an hourly basis). He anticipated several things I had not and made sure it all worked right the first time. He cleaned up his work site too! I am really happy to know a firm that we can call on when we have gate issues! read more

Donovan and his team are A plus! He helped custom design and install a 100 foot front gate, man door, and electric automatic opening car entrance gate at my home. He is very responsive, creative, and did beautiful work for a very fair price. Highly recommended and will he using him again. read more

If I could give no stars, I would..6 weeks ago we called mr martini to repair our gate. He said easy fix, should take no more than 3-4 days to get the part. He rarely answered his phone or returned calls, lied about when he would come repair the gate and ultimately never did!! I don't know how any business can operate this way.!! Don't use them!!! read more

Big thumbs up to Donovan and his crew from Sculptural gates on customer service, follow up and most importantly,...follow through. I am the project manager and all around maintenance fix it guy at Sonomas Best and we have 4 cottages that are constantly booked and behind a automatic gate. Suffice it to say this gate gets 10 times, a 100 times?? the action that a normal residence would get and Donovan will come from time to time without a call from me just to see if it needs any kind of adjustment given the demand it's under. Sculptural installed our gate approximately 5 years ago. The gate has performed perfectly. Their customer service is fantastic. Donavan came to our house on a Friday afternoon to do a "reset". I wanted Donovan to check for damage done to the gate by Fed Ex when they threw a large package over the gate which interfered with the gate opening properly. Donavan made the drive from Sonoma to San Rafael. Sculptural makes a superior product and they follow up with great customer service. read more

We used Sculptural Gates about 6 weeks ago to fix the gate at our house. They charged us not only for the gate but also for the mileage to get there. Within 3 days of them fixing it, the gate was broken again. This is unacceptable. What is even more unacceptable is the fact that we have tried to call them for the past 3 weeks, and NOONE HAS ANSWERED OR RETURNED ANY VOICE MAILS. How does a business operate like this?!? These folks really know their business. I got one quote from another company and they said they could not fix my driveway gates and their were no parts available. The quote was to replace everything for about $7,000.00. I set up an appointment with Sculptural gates and he came out on time. He had the gates working within 1 hour and gave me an in depth tutorial on how to maintain everything which will come in very handy. highly recommended and great to deal with. read more

I posted a review on June 24 regarding a collision with my keypad. Mr. Martini called today (July 2) to explain he had been on vacation, thought that repair had been taken care of earlier. He apologized and today the keypad was repaired. The incident still raises issues regarding management of employees, follow-up, and the honesty of the driver, but we are satisfied with the resolution and repairs. read more

We live in Napa and needed a gate for our home/estate. I had seen a gate I liked but needed something with the same general feel that worked for our space. After a few months of back and forth and my comparing prices from a number of gate makers, we decided to have Donovan make our gate. It turned out STUNNING! Not only did he build the gate but also installed the solar power for the operations. Donovan was incredibly professional. He drew the gate design in CAD (he has a great eye for detail and design and helped my husband and I work through our differences) and delivered a gate more beautiful then we even expected. This is a follow-up to my earlier review, and one year since Donovan, owner of Sculptural Gates, installed our driveway gate. Came time for us to lube the bolts and make sure everything was in working order (note that we have not had a single day of problem since installation). We emailed Donovan to make sure we understood the process. He responded immediately with an amazingly detailed description of how we should proceed, including images of the hinges/bolts, complete with arrows and directions. What customer service! We can't say enough about what a professional Donovan is, and what an amazing command of his business, the electronics, the mechanical requirements and the follow-up he provides. He could easily have charged us for a home visit to take care of the annual maintenance. Instead, he got us involved in the process and made sure we knew what steps to take. I had these guys install my automated gate about 11 years ago when they were owned by someone else. Since then, Donovan took over and has been doing a good job as well, whenever we need routine maintenance. I've had him and/or his guys out here 3 or 4 times to fix things on it (replace the controller's mother board when frogs or snails get into it, maintain and replace the drive chain, etc.) Donovan is always friendly and gets things taken care of. I see a couple of other posts on here about him and/or his crew not being prompt. These posts are obviously from people who are clueless about small businesses ran by a skeletal crew. You can only handle so many things in one day. I know, I own a couple of small businesses and it can take me a while to get to my clients too. When you are getting good, honest work though, you can overlook minor things like having to leave a message or wait a couple of days for them to get back to you when they're busy. I have to do that all of the time myself with my own businesses. You have too much work for 2 or 3 employees, but not enough to warrant hiring one or two more employees. I get that and wish others did. All in all these guys are great. They're local, they do good work, they speak English, and they're honest. You can't ask for much better than that. If you have an emergency and need something done quickly, let them know! Even if you have to leave them a message, TELL THEM it's an emergency! I'm sure you'll get a call back quicker, unless they happen to be there to answer your call. It's really not brain surgery... read more
