We had one of our best contractor experiences with Arbor Fence. Their estimator showed up on time and we received an estimate within a week. I expected Arbor's estimate to be higher than other contractors I contacted, but their estimate was the lowest of any contractor who was willing to put their estimate in writing. Their office staff was right on top of the job and got us scheduled within two weeks of signing the contract. The crew showed up on time and got right to work. They were respectful of our property and worked quietly. The fence looks great and it is a quality build with good materials. The posts are set in solid with wet-mixed concrete. They cleaned up the area and even replaced the bark I raked back from the fence line. Aside from having a beautiful new fence, you couldn't tell that anybody was working there! I give them four stars as a result of the crew cutting down a healthy, mature oak tree without consulting with us first. This happened just hours after I communicated with them that "NO trees should be cut to accommodate the fence." Very happy with my new fence! Old fence was down and new fence is up in the space of two work days! I don't have to worry about my dog possibly escaping through the decrepit fence anymore. Went with a horizontal fence, akin to what you see at Starling Bar. It's a neat trick of the eye that the horizontal slats make your yard look bigger, so it's well worth any extra expense to have it done that way. I don't understand how anyone could hire someone that is so incredibly rude and abrupt. He was there for 4 minutes and took no measurements. A cautionary tale...a prompt, competitive quote is only meaningful if the vendor executes. Learn from my experience - always, always make sure a proposal includes a drop dead start & completion date. I engaged Arbor on 3/2/17 for 3 projects - one of which was to replace a front fence lost in a recent storm, Here's what happened: March 2 2017 - I was told all 3 projects would commence the 3rd week of March and that I'd receive a call "shortly" to confirm. I never received a call and the 3rd week of March came and went. March 28 2017 - I called and was told I was tentatively scheduled for April 6 and that I would receive a call to confirm. No call - April 6 came and went. April 10 2017 - I called again and was told the person with whom I previously spoke specifically recalls telling me the end of April. Never happened. Cancelled contract. Lots of neighbors lost fences in the recent storms and all have been replaced - except mine. Arbor clearly over committed and put their interests above customers. Starting again - next engagement will be contingent upon a start/end date. Good luck! read more

I had done business with Arbor fence in the past and did not have any problems. So, I decided to contact them in regards to putting a railing and a pedestrian gate around my front porch. The estimator came out, I gave him pictures and he made measurements for the gate and railing. This was in November 2018. I never heard back.....ever! Called multiple times to find out when the quote would be ready. Each time I was told a message would be left for the estimator. It is now February 2019. Needless to say, I went with another company to do the work. If you are too busy, or just don't care about the job, it is better that you let your customers know so they don't have to waste their time with a company who doesn't seem to care about repeat business. This place has a beautiful website with lots of pictures. On the website is a form to fill out to set up an appointment. They give you the choice of two preffered times. I filled out the form along with the comments about what I am looking for. I was expecting to get a confirmation email and then an appointment at my home to go over the available choices of woods, styles, costs etc. Instead I got a series of emails with an estimate for 50 bucks a foot for fencing. I am also interested in a gate but for a driveway but they only quoted me for a walk through. After about 4 emails I gave up. The other fencing people I have called are willing to come out and give me a free estimate, but this company did not seem to want to be bothered. read more

He is a rip-roaring a-hole that was obviously so offended that I would ask him for some pricing estimates that he started yelling at me, saying he would fire anyone that provided an estimate. I wasn't looking for any guarantees on cost, but never having had to replace a custom wrought-iron fence, I don't think it's so outlandish for someone to say "well, of course each fence is different, but we just did one that is similar to what you've described, and it cost approximately ... The "Owner" came out to give us an estimate on a deck we wanted built. ... he spent less than 5 minutes doing the estimate. It took about 5 days to get the proposal . When we got the proposal, it had NO BREAKDOWN OF FEES -- only a total cost of about $4k for an 11x17 Redwood Deck. We emailed him for a breakdown, which we got a few days later. I then asked for a few minor things added to the agreement: 1. $300 off his asking price (which matched another estimate) 2. Change the existing term (50% on job startup) to 50% on job startup after all materials on list are delivered to said property. (MAKES ENSE RIGHT?) 3. Please list an exact start date and exact finish date. (MAKES ENSE RIGHT?) 4. I also requested a "Notice to owner Form" (this form protects the property owner by notifiying them that labor and materials were used on this property and for you to get lien releases from the general contractor and his suppliers to make sure they (lumber company) have been paid and do not lien your property) [STANDARD IN THIS BUSINESS -- i have been told] ALL (3) of my other estimates gladly accepted these terms. Arbor Fence replied to my email saying: "The Owner is no longer interested in your business" . Of course, before I asked for these terms, they called me for several days wanting my business. Not very professional, to say the least. I cant comment on his work because I would never give him a shot to do it after the way I was treated .... but I can say, BEWARE. Absolutely the worst treatment I have ever gotten from somebody. The estimator showed up and did not even get out of the truck, made an utterance of how he was supposed to get up the driveway, so I showed him the fencing area on the outside of the 1.33 acres that needed new fencing, so he could start there if he wanted to. He then drove to the corner of the property, turned around, and drove back and out on the highway, and was never heard from again. Now keep in mind we had just lost everything we owned due to the fires here in Napa, and I had waited three weeks for the appointment date due to their busy schedule. After a strong wind weakened a 6' high wooden fence we share with a neighbor late last November, it only became weaker as time went on. We telephoned Arbor Fence and within a few days the owner, Ron, came out to our home assessed the problem, explained what he thought would rectify the problem and told me that a proposal would be coming within a few days. Lo and behold just a few days later I received an e-mail explaining what the process would be and for a fair and competitive price (not cheap but both fair and competitive). I would have given Arbor 5 stars, but the failure to offer several bids based on the quality of the wood knocked it down a star. I would probably have been willing to pay more for a higher grade (instead of "common") but that's water over the dam now. Obtained multiple bids for an 8' high deer fence for about 500 feet of property line. In addition, there were some finer details needing design around a cattle gate and a private driveway entrance. All bids were comparable on price. I chose Arbor because I had a comfortable feeling when I met Ron, the owner. From there, it went great all the way to the finish line. The crew started as scheduled, the foreman invited every conversation needed as the project advanced, Ron's son Will welded a perfect new 16' double gate, the office staff kept me posted, and the job wrapped up on time and on budget. We recently installed a swimming pool and had to have a pool lock and self closing hinge put on our metal gate, which is a small job. This was soon after the devastating fires in Napa and Sonoma Counties and we believed no fence company would take the job. I contacted six fence companies in Napa and Sonoma, which Arbor Fence Inc, was the only company who responded back. Genevieve asked that I send pictures of the gate and materials (which we had) to be installed. She also warned us that because of the fire, it might take awhile. Soon after, Genevieve contacted us and said they would be out to do the job and gave us the date. On that date, Wil called in the morning and was soon at our house. This day was during one of our storms and Wil installed the lock and hinge as heavy rain came down. Wil also made suggestions on a stop for the gate, so it will not slam shut and to reuse the old latch to keep the gate open, when needed. Wil needs to fabricate these two items, which he said might take a few days and they still need to be installed. But now the final permit inspection can take place. We used Arbor Fence two years ago to replace the two side fences shared with neighbors and a new front fence with gate, all in cedar. They showed up on time and removed the old fence and installed the new fence efficiently and cleaned up when done. They even hauled away some old planter boxes with the old fence. Everyone was nice and when asked to do something extra, they complied. Two years later we needed our taller back fence replaced and Genevieve came out to estimate. She made some suggestions that saved on the cost and threw in some extras after the estimate was made. The crew (Juan, Miguel, and Rogelio) came out and finished in 2 days. They did a great job and avoided the rose bushes and cleaned up when they were done. I wish I had replaced it sooner, it looks so good from our kitchen and family room. They were easy to work with and listened when I had questions and even repaired a board that had bowed on the side fence. I used to build fences and decks years ago, but physically can't do it anymore, so if I was happy, I would think anyone would be happy. read more

After having to call and email and very politely ask multiple times when my estimate would be ready I was told the person doing the estimate was very busy. No apologies. Called up Arbor Fence looking for a bid on an automatic driveway gate, a single lane bridge gate, a pedestrian gate and some connecting fencing. Their ad says they serve all of Sonoma county and my first question was if they would serve my area way out in West County, Occidental. I gave them my exact address and the nice young lady on the phone said she would check with the boss, who does all the estimates, and get back to me. She returned my call and said yes they do serve Occidental and the boss would be out in ten days to talk with me and give me an estimate. Ten days? Seemed a little long but ok. On the scheduled day, I waited for 45 minutes with no sign of or call from said boss. When I called Arbor they said he was on his way. He finally showed up an hour late without so much as a sorry for keeping you waiting and he had a terrible bad attitude from the start and he had obviously already decided he didn't want the job and immediately started listing reasons he "couldn't" do it; foremost the fact that it was too far out. When I told him someone had already approved the location ( I knew he was the one to approve it), He had the gall to stand there and tell me he would like to know who had approved it !?! So Arbor, if this is how you treat customers by being unapologetically late, rude and dismissive, I am glad I found this out now before this same manner carried out to the work. Bottomline: started out great, dragged it out, evaded questions, finished sloppily months after expected. We were looking fence in our 3 acre parcel including a nice gate for the driveway. It took a week to get someone out for the estimate, but after that it seemed to be going well once we agreed to go ahead - they even had a crew out here digging holes before we had paid them anything. The fence went up quickly and professionally, including a late decision to do all of the perimeter. That part was great, and we were pleasantly surprised. Then...things started going downhill. We started wondering when our gate would be installed, and then we got a phone call about the final height - we had chosen a style and height at the time of signing the contract. This made us realize that they hadn't even started making the gate yet. A week or so later we ask where things are, and there was something about an arch being faulty and the gate was delayed. OK, fine, clearly we would prefer to wait if the other option is having a lop-sided gate. (This doesn't change the fact that they waited until the fencing was done before starting the gate....and "done" didn't include the fencing that runs up the gate - that couldn't be finished until the gate was installed). Then they asked for more money, and told me the gate was off to the powdercoater. Great. A few days later we called and asked if we could get a time estimate. Then we were told that the gate "was just about ready" to be sent to the powdercoater. At this point we were getting frustrated. Powdercoating took 2.5 wks. Finally - the gate was done. But, it was time for someone's vacation - I guess only one person there can do the installation, so we waited another 2 weeks until he got back from Hawaii. The week came to install the gate. They sunk the last two 4x4 posts in concrete next to the metal posts...but they are covered in green crust and have chop marks along the bottom. When confronted with it the head guy admitted "yeah, looks like we chose the wrong posts". ???!!!! The most prominent pieces of wood look awful. He also couldn't get the phone hookup working (we later figured it out ourselves the following day), BUT still asked for the remaining $11K. When we brought up the fact that it wasn't working yet, he offered to take $500 less. The lack of professionalism was appalling. I realize projects drag out towards the end, but this was utterly ridiculous. The fence is (mostly) well made, and the gate itself is beautiful. For over $25K I would have expected not to have been put off for weeks, essentially lied to, marginalized, given scrap wood for the final prominent pieces, and then offered $500 off to deliver an unfinished/non-functioning process. read more
