By nature I refrain from posting negative reviews. I feel that a careless review can have an unfair impact on a business that was just having a bad day. However I do feel that this company deserves the negative feedback it has received and I encourage parents and gamers alike to not purchase from this company.
In summary, you will experience the following:
1. A problematic/not properly functioning product.
2. Inferior customer service.
3. Delays and frustrations.
To go in sequence; my product was purchased on July 8th (I do not have my receipt next to me, so I may be off by a day or two). Immediately you notice something is amiss in the sense that you are met with silence. No communication. No substantive updates. But you do get a message that, in my opinion, haunts scuf. You get a message that SCUF will engage in this arduous process to ensure you get the best of the best. It appears that the month long process is necessary to ensure premium success. So you relax and wait a month to hopefully obtain the item you purchased.
One week before delivery, I get an email basically saying, "o.k., we are going to start building your controller...." Wait...so what were you doing the previous weeks? A then like a day or two later you get an email saying, "we are sending it" So you're thinking, what happened to the arduous process. It seems that you just rushed my order based on your communication.
THE PRODUCT
I received my controller on August 9th. We were super excited. The item was packaged well and arrived with no damage. That night, we tested it and it was quickly a disappointment. The left top (LT) trigger (to aim) did not work unless you pressed it only at the tip. I could press it down on the other 90% percent of the button (and you could see that i was clearly pressing down on it and repeatedly) and it would not work at all. We tried to see if we could work around the "only the tip" problem, but it was a nightmare.
There were other issues with the craftsmanship but for brevity I am only mentioning this item.
Customer Service
I sent an email to SCUF immediately and got a general response i.e. we are sad and will respond.
If you visit SCUF's website they tell you that customer service operates Mon - Fri 9am to 7pm (Eastern Time); that means that by 6am Pacific Time they are opened. I called at 9am (EST), 9:15am, 9:30am, etc. I called over 10 times and I was always greeted by the same message, "Our offices are closed."
By 1pm Eastern Time, I finally got someone to pick up. I explained that I had been calling since the morning and wanted to know why their voicemail stated that the office was closed. He stumbled and said, "I don't know what you mean, I have been answering calls all morning." This was my first clue that this is not a company that is enamored with customers. The conversation went pretty much how others described. Customer service is not high on the list of priorities for this company. I explained the problem and his repeated response was rather problematic. He kept repeating, "well since you're still under warranty we will look into it." The reason this was problematic is because I just explained that I received the item 1 DAY BEFORE. Not a week, not a month. 1 Day. It didn't faze him. He was not one iota sympathetic that an expensive item was not working properly. He also gave me no details on how this process was to work.
At this point, he only offered to have it sent back and gave me no timeline. After repeated prodding, he finally admitted that it would be another 3 weeks. At this point, I was not happy and wanted a full refund. That was not received warmly.
Here is SCUF's problem; they truly present that they need a whole month because they are meticulously building your controller. When you receive such a clear and defective product, you are left with two conclusions:
1. They are lying and are not being meticulous. OR
2. They have extremely incompetent people building your controller that despite a month with your controller do not notice that the LT button is not working.
Either conclusion is not acceptable.
I have zero faith that the company will "fix" the issue and 100% believe that this inferior product will not function properly in the near future. I also believe that any delay will embolden them to attempt to hide behind a dubious policy.
I am hoping that my full refund will move forward with no problem (i.e. with no restocking fee since it was a manufacture defect).
To receive a defective product after a month of waiting and then to wait another month to ship it back and hope they fix it, is not worth the time you will waste.
I undoubtedly do not want this product, I did not bargain to wait for a fix, and do not recommend this company. You purchase at your own risk. read more
