We put Scruffy Murphys on our pub crawl map for St Patty's day. It was our third stop, 3/4 mile walk from Nallens Irish pub. It was obviously busy, bouncers at the door explained there was a $10.00 cover charge. You could not even walk into the place, let alone get a drink. I decided our group needed to move on, so I said, looks like standing room only, probably can't even get a drink, the bouncer screamed out"if you are not paying a cover, you need to get off of my patio". Pretty much the most anti customer service moron you could imagine as the entrance to your business. I totally understand, Saturday the 16th of March is your busiest day, but management should be ashamed of the reputation that your door people are portraying. I would love to give an honest review of the entire service experience because their are more Nathan likely fantastic employees, but the door dig-bats ruined any possible positive experience. read more

Went to Denver for a weekend and got way to loose. Stopped and had a Skittles shot and some beers. Got back to Phoenix and wife forgot her debit card at the bar. They went the extra mile and sent it back with a BOGO offer. Here's a cheers for some tasty beers. Scruffy rocks. read more

Dropped in for a quick drink after an interview around the corner. I always love Irish pubs. This place is ideal for an early happy hour or if you're just looking for a cozy pub to drink in. Bartenders were very friendly and even let us try some of their house pickles, beware, they were spicy but delish! I had my usual black velvet, while my boyfriend ordered a 15 year scotch. Wish I could leave NO STARs. Apparently Shannon isn't there anymore to great customers. My wife and I walked in, sat at a table and waited,,,,,and waited,,,,and waited. The lazy bartender continued to chat, he wasn't even pouring drinks. We went in on Thursday night, May 4th, 2017 and they weren't even busy. We just walked out. I've been to Scruffy's a million times, and it's great for what it is - a divey Irish pub on a block full of bro bars in LoDo. They have live music some days, and that's a great time to go in. (I didn't know there were multiple Irish bands in Denver, but there are!) The tap lines are clean, the beer selection is decent, and the service is friendly. read more

A one, that's right we saw a sign for four dollar car bombs we went in and were charged 6 dollars we talked to management about why it was falsely advertised for 4 dollars while management was talking to us one of the employees went over and erased it then management asked where we saw the advertisement and we said we saw your employee erase it and he acted like we were crazy. I love this bar. First, they actually make their pickles in house for the pickle shots. And while other bars offering pickle shots use Taaka (gross) mixed with pickle juice, Scruffy's uses Svedka and actually infuses the pickles! Personally, I prefer the pickle bourbon over the pickle vodka if I'm having one. Second, for bar food its pretty damn good. Their Grim sauce (named for its inventor, whom also makes the pickles) is a delightful sweet and slightly hot addition to their pork wings (my fav) and bacon wrapped chicken. The heroin sauce is just as addictive as it sounds, served alongside their pretzel it is just about as perfect as it gets. The staff is great, and ladies, it's the safest bar on the block. Those guys have zero qualms about removing the drunk, handsy, belligerent, Chad-bros that occasionally stumble in. If you ever have a problem, they will remove it and make sure you're safe. Live music, dancing, karaoke, and the largest patio on Larimer all make this my regular go to spot. This list could honestly go on and on, but I definitely encourage you to check out this diamond in the rough for yourself. read more

This is a great venue to catch local bands, some of which sync up with the establishment's Irish theme, and some of which are your standard local rock bands that just serve to reinforce the place's (appreciated!) local roots. The bartenders and staff are friendly, and the menu is entirely prepared in a surprisingly small kitchen, considering how good everything tastes when it comes out. My favorite is the Shepherd's Pie, but they have several other thematically-apropos offerings and whenever they've had a special event with an appetizer spread, it's been tasty and varied (within reason for an appetizer spread). The place is, effectively, two connected units in the same building in Five Points; the main door opens into the bar area, which also features a fireplace and some seating, and a second door connects it to a neighboring room of equal size that houses the stage, the bathrooms, and more dining room seating. The stage faces the door so you can easily hear anyone playing in the bar area (for most bands they feature in the place, even when the interior door is closed), and although the layout makes the best use of the space it can, it's a little awkward due to their attempt to fit the stage into roughly the same area as the bar itself occupies on the long side of the room. The decor feels like an Irish pub transplanted into Denver, complete with dark wood accents, smaller tables, and Irish sports jerseys hanging from the ceiling or draped across the ubiquitous brick walls. Overall, I've caught quite a few musical acts here, and the beer selection is both robust and affordable, so there's always something good to drink while you're listening. They also host whisky tastings and other events, so there's likely something to bring most anyone into the place, and they'll likely find something to bring them back, much like I did. read more

I paid $44.13 for two vodka lemonades and three lemon drop shots. Unless those drinks were made with liquid gold, I was super unimpressed. Also, a drunk guy bought my two friends and I shots of Jameson (4 shots total), which ended up being cheaper than my 5 drinks. I've been here before and loved the laid back vibe. However, I won't be back again anytime soon because I feel taken advantage of. And the bartender kept making fun of the patrons, who were virtually paying for his salary, so I'm not sure what his deal was. read more

Sometimes we come across a bar that defines a trip. A place where friends are made and the most poignant memories of a vacation take place. Scruffy is such a place! From the first minute I stepped into this bar I felt at home. I felt like I was a longtime native of Denver and these were my friends. The beer is great, well priced, and the staff is helpful in their recommendations. Plus they have a cool set of liquor infusions that are super tasty. I highly recommend the Patron, Caffe and Latte one. We ended up coming here every night we were in Denver. The bar was never too crowded (in a good way) and the music was great. A nice mix of hip-hop, Irish rock, and American alternative. Also there is a magician who performs tricks and doesn't ask for money, how cool is that? read more

I was at scruffy Murphy's during October fest. We had a great table and were having a great time. We saw friends of ours, and they came over to talk to us. One of them placed their beer on our table. A worker came over and rudely told her she couldn't set her beer in the table. I understand that it's an outside beverage, and why she couldn't, but his tone and aggressiveness wasn't needed. Then my husband was on the other side of the fence, talking to our friends, and asked for a drink of my beverage. The guy freaked out again . He got one of the bouncers to come over and talk to us. We weren't being rowdy or disrespectful but they made us feel like we were criminals. read more

This is a Denver hipster bar, not an Irish Pub. Beards, horn rim glasses, "F" bombs in normal conversation, and flannel everywhere. Country music was playing on the bar sound system. We came in on a Friday evening, they were not busy at all and we sat at a table. We watched the bartender BS with a couple of hipsters at the bar and wondered if they had a wait staff. Walked up and ordered from him at the bar, (minimal conversation) and served our table the drinks myself. No biggy, I get it, it's a bar and I don't have a beard. Waited for food, fish and chips came right out. They were really good, not greasy and there was a ton of "chips" (fries). We waited until the folks who ordered fish and chips were almost done eating before the bacon wrapped chicken and pork wings came out. The pork wings were really good, they come with a very tasty BBQ sauce. The bacon wrapped chicken was WAY over done, I would have sent it back but we were in a time crunch to catch a show. It still tasted great even though it was incinerated. When we walked back by a few hours later the place was completely packed so they're doing something right. 4 stars for the food, 1 star for service, had to go with 3 for the review. The tab was reasonable too so it is a good value and they have a great beer selection. Oh, the door to the men's room doesn't close. read more
