This is one of the biggest and most comprehensive hobby shops I have been to in a long, long time…read more These don't exist anymore in NYC, having gone extinct by lack of interest and internet commerce. Supplying many of these hobbies have been relegated to a few shelves in big-box craft shops like Michaels and Hobby Lobby in the US. Once I found Imperial Hobbies on Yelp during our vacation and it was near our hotel, I made my plans. I dropped my wife off for her spa day and this was going to be my spa day ;) The store is in a group of buildings almost at the end of the runway of Vancouver Airport (YVR). If you hang around, you'll see tons of airliners approaching for landings and roaring off on take offs. I just couldn't believe the selection of plastic models of planes, armor, cars and trucks along with complete selections of paint and finishing materials. It's these types of stores that I would spend hours in as a boy, but could only stare wide-eyed because I never had much money back then. But now as an adult with a job and disposable income, I probably would have gone broke if I didn't have to pack everything into my luggage to fly home. The favorable CAD$ to USD$ exchange rate also helped a lot in my shopping. I ended up with a couple of scale plastic model kits and a flying model rocket that are rare, out of production kits or very hard to find, even on-line.

However if you're more interested in say action figures or Star Wars collecting then disappointed you will be as what's on offer does seem more like an afterthought . Also their prices are quite a bit more than 'em chains , but tbh I'm just happy that brick and mortar stores like this still exists as they're a slowly dying breed .

This requirement was never disclosed at the time of purchase, even though I specifically asked about their return process. Instead, after the fact, they pointed to wording on the receipt that says "receipts" (plural) as if that somehow retroactively justifies refusing the return. That is not transparent policy--it's moving the goalposts. In standard retail practice, an itemized proof of purchase is sufficient to process a return. Most businesses understand that the purpose of a receipt requirement is simply to verify the transaction. When a customer provides clear documentation that does exactly that, refusing a return on a technicality is not policy--it's avoidance. I have been a professional shopper supporting small businesses in this city for eight years, and I have never encountered a store using this kind of tactic. It comes across as slimy, unprofessional, and frankly dishonest. What's especially disappointing is that I've spent thousands of dollars here over the years. Instead of honoring a straightforward $300 return with valid proof of purchase, they chose to damage a long-standing customer relationship. Because of this experience, they've lost a loyal customer. I will also be advising other shoppers in my community to avoid this store due to what appears to be bad-faith and poor business practices. I cannot recommend a business that treats customers this way.

An absolutely absurd amount of FunkoPops is the least exciting thing about it (well, besides the resident gamers with questionable hygiene habits, but that's pretty much *every* game store), but they do have a sizeable selection of board games, CCGs/TCGs, figures, models, dice, RPG books, fidgets, toys, puzzles, posters, and more! It's clean, well-organized, well-stocked, and well-staffed. In short, better than most hobby and gaming stores out there!
