Our first visit to Scratch. Not exactly what we expected. Ordered a pizza house salad and 2 drinks. Our drinks had minimal ice, diet coke was somewhat flat, and mot having sweetner available for iced tea means you have to wait for someone to get it for you. Pizza came out and looked great. Had to ask about the salad, which came out after we had started on the pizza. Salad was not impressive. Lettuce, tomato and cheese. I think there was Italian dressing, but not sure. Another customer came in and was ignored for about 20 minutes until he got up and stood at the register. Needless to say customer service was questionable if not non-existent. I was at the hospital earlier visiting a friend when we decided we were hungry. So we decided to log in to Yelp to search for hot new businesses. The first to come up nearby was Scratch Pizza. Seeing that it was only 4 minutes away from Kaiser Hospital, we decided to hop in my car to try this place out. Once we got there we were greeted by a really nice girl behind the counter. Since it was our first time , she mentioned to us that we were just on time for their lunch special. We were able to order a two topping calzone for only 5 bucks! I ordered the pepperoni and pineapple calzone and my friend ordered the pepperoni and chorizo calzone. I know what you're thinking. Yes they have chorizo as a topping and yes we both ate a huge calzone for only 5 bucks each. We sat at the bar and our food came out pretty fast. We were both very impressed. Ok, so now for the review of the food. It was absolutely delicious, especially the ricotta cheese in the calzone. What can I say? The ricotta is sweet, fluffy and tasty. I was in heaven. I had seen the Norco location so I was super thrilled that this restaurant decided to open one near La Sierra University. As a vegetarian, I was very pleased to see that the vegetables on the Vegetarian Pizza were very fresh and were not limited to just mushrooms, olives and bell peppers. I'm not usually a fan of artichokes however I found that I ate all of them on the Vegetarian Pizza which can only mean one thing- the pizza is of good quality and the produce/veggies are delicious. For pizza this sabrosa, the prices are just right. I like the vibe at this location. It's the perfect spot for an after work hang out, an after school hangout and a weekend hangout especially to watch sports. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. I had the privilege of meeting the owner who was busy working. He was very polite and took time out to talk to me and answer my questions. My first time trying Scratch. Because it was on special, I tried the cauliflower crust pizza. I chose toppings of basil, olives, and tomato slices. The pizza was served hot out-of-the-oven. The crust was very thin and nicely crispy. Very good toppings, lots of fresh basil, and excellent sauce. Not sure if I'd pay full price, but as a lunch special, this was a great meal for around $8. Our pizza arrived without extra cheese and seemed to show a lot of thedough in the center of the pizza. A little sad how this seems to be an issue with other people's orders too when they order extra of anything. We placed our order directly on their website, so there should have not been an human error when typing in extra cheese. I hope this gets fixed. I've had pizza from scratch several times and every time I'm very happy with the quality of the pizza. Even left overs are good, which is hard to find. I wish they had a location closer to home but this location is right down the street from my job which is nice cause I can always just order ahead of time before I get off of work to go pick it up on my way home. This place was good the first time I came. But it lost it's touch when I came in with a friend and her small dog. Well trained and groomed, an employee approached us and asked if it was a service dog, and asked for paperwork as well. My friend did not have it available and they asked her to leave immediately with the dog due to it being a health code violation. The point was that all the employees were extremely rude about the situation and seemed not to know how to communicate. They were not sentimental at all. It's a "family operated" business, and you would expect a little more care for their customers. Would not recommend their service.
