I heard positive things from neighbors about Julie's Movers and I think those positive experiences…read moreshould be considered alongside my negative experience. Here is what made my experience negative: THE SCENARIO: My job promised to be a small one--I figured a couple hours of two strong folks would do it. I had two PODS that needed to be unloaded. I had things very organized, knew right where things were to be placed, and had my sister there to help direct the movers. NEGATIVE 1--FEES: Julie's suggested I use three movers rather than the standard two. Their reasoning was that this would move things along even faster and thus reduce the cost. This made sense UNLESS you understood Julie's fees for travel time. I understood that I would pay for one hour of travel time--i.e., a flat rate. Instead, I paid for three people to sit in a car for an hour coming to my place and an hour leaving my place. The time they were at my place and working didn't even total two hours! I understand the need for a small business such as Julie's Movers to take travel time into consideration, but I encourage Julie's to reconsider their travel time fee structure. NEGATIVE 2--COMMUNICATIONS As requested, I had sent detailed directions to my place days prior to the move. I understood I would receive a call when movers were on the way. Instead, I did not hear from the movers until after the agreed upon arrival time and they were calling to say they were lost. I learned later that they had either forgotten to print the directions or that the printer was broken, and they were unable to print them--either way, they were late but started the clock at the time we had originally agreed upon. I was flabbergasted at this and encourage Julie's to follow a more standard operating procedure of having the directions at hand (digitally or in print), communicating departure time and ETA, and starting the clock when work commences. NEGATIVE 3 -PROFESSIONALISM: One of the movers seemed resistant to taking direction. He stacked on top of boxes he was told not to, took boxes to the wrong place, and repeatedly offered to do light weight things that I specifically noted I could do myself. His actions and attitude bled onto the other two movers who were doing a reasonable job and created an unprofessional atmosphere. My sister mistakenly thought I had not contracted with a business but had instead just found some guys to help. I encourage Julie's to counsel their employees on proper moving and listening techniques and to make respect and professionalism a core behavior. UPSHOT: Again, I have heard good things from others about Julie's and so it is quite possible my experience is an outlier. Nonetheless, I hope Julie's will consider what I have noted above and that readers will take measures with Julie's to ensure a better experience than I had.

I can't say enough great things about MVM. I was in a serious bind after getting scammed by another…read morecompany and with less than 2 days until my move, I had to explore other options. By some kind of miracle, MVM had availability for that Saturday to move me from Columbus to Cleveland. The team was kind, professional, and prompt. They were friendly and took great care of my items. There were only two guys moving stuff out of my two bedroom apartment, but they worked quickly and efficiently. I moved in to an old house that had some tight squeezes to work through. Not once did they complain or huff and puff as they worked to get my couch through a narrow doorway. They charge by the hour (aside from if you have any special items, such as a piano) and there aren't any hidden fees. And unlike some other companies, your items are the only ones on that truck, nor do they make multiple pickups and stops. Very straightforward and simple. MVM made what was initially an incredibly stressful situation painless. I have already recommended them to friends and would use them again in a heartbeat.

Formal Complaint - Poor Service, Property Damage, and Unprofessional Conduct…read more This company and its staff were disorganized, damaging, delayed, dismissive, condescending, unaccountable, careless, and overall highly unprofessional. I strongly advise proceeding with caution. My move took place on March 13th and was poorly executed from start to finish. A job estimated at three hours took well over six hours due to inefficiency and lack of coordination. During the move, my property was mishandled, resulting in a broken mirror and damage to the walls. Communication throughout the process was minimal and disorganized, with no clear updates or accountability. I was also charged an unexpected $500 overtime fee. While this fee was eventually refunded, the circumstances raise serious concerns. I was informed that a full refund would not be considered because, in the company's history, they "do not do that," and that as long as the move was completed, the quality of service was irrelevant. While interactions with Shayne (Branch Manager) were frustrating at times, he did make efforts within his authority and indicated that approval was needed from Ben (Regional Manager) to process a full refund. It was implied this would be approved, and Shayne appeared confident in that direction. However, once escalated, communication became inconsistent. Ben was unavailable, and this was later referenced as a reason for delays. When I spoke with Brian (CMO), the response did not reflect a thorough review. Instead, assumptions were made, the tone was patronizing, and there was no meaningful effort to resolve the concerns. At no point was there accountability, de-escalation, or empathy. This experience raises serious concerns regarding service quality, communication, and leadership accountability. Proceed with extreme caution.

Everything went smoothly until it came time to pay--and that's when the problems began. Ramon…read morehimself came to our home to give us a quote. He saw the number of items we had and was told exactly where the truck would need to park. Despite this, when it came time to settle the bill, the movers claimed the quote only included FIVE boxes--when in reality they moved well over 100--and that the walking distance was underestimated (100ft vs. 300ft). A two bedroom apartment with only five boxes? Seriously?! They tried to up charge us by more than $700 at the very last second, after everything was already off the truck. When I called Ramon, he was nothing like the friendly guy who came out originally. Instead, he acted clueless, dismissive, and nothing like the guy I first met. On top of that, once we started unpacking, we realized some boxes were missing entirely, and our beige couch had been delivered with stains. They had wrapped the mattresses, but not the couch--an obvious oversight. When I complained, they offered me a laughable $50 credit. After pushing back, they grudgingly increased it to $100, which doesn't even begin to cover the hassle and damage. Between the attempted last-minute price gouging, the lost boxes, the damaged furniture, and the dismissive attitude, I would never use this company again and cannot recommend them to anyone.
