We were recently on a family roadtrip, during which our vegan daughter's birthday was going to occur. I had brought a vegan sweet treat along with us, but was hoping we would stumble on a bakery that had a vegan cake option. After a comedy of errors at the Hardee's across the street, we randomly ended up in this plaza to get my daughter a vegan sandwich from the Starbucks. On our way out, we saw Scratch and decided to pop in. It was our vegan-lucky-day because Scratch did carry a vegan cupcake! It was a chocolate chip vegan cupcake. I purchased two of those, and and assortment of four others for our birthday celebration. The cupcakes needed to survive two days across two states in a sort-of-cool cooler, and luckily they mostly made the trek. The chocolate peanut butter cupcake's frosting took a dive in that time, but the others held up well. When we finally indulged in our Scratch cupcakes for our vegan daughter's birthday, the birthday girl was pleased with her treat! Everyone enjoyed their cupcakes, our spread was pretty good! The wedding cake cupcake was overly extract'ed, and the price was high ($16 for a half-dozen), but we were still happy to have stumbled on Scratch with a vegan cupcake option for our vegan birthday girl. Just dropped in to see what they have. It seems they have one vegan cupcake per month or week. Today was a coconut cupcake. It was only 2$ which is excellent for a specialty cupcake. It is cute inside and the people were friendly. The frosting was good. It was definitely a coconut cupcake, not my favorite flavor but well made. I am guessing they use banana in the cake part for the fluffiness because it tasted just a touch like banana, it was quite wet (not a dry cupcake). We are addicted to this place. Not only did we stop on the way up to Minneapolis we stopped on the way back. My wife called her co-workers who we had brought cup cakes to before and took their order. 2 dozen cupcakes later we were on our way. I don't know what to say about this place except it is worth the stop. We have been to both locations and had awesome product from both. We all have favorite flavors but we also try, and are never disappointed, when we go outside our comfort zone and order something new. I'm a big fan of this cupcake shop. I typically shop at their location in Cedarfalls. But I have stopped here on occasion when I'm in Waterloo. I was greeted immediately upon entering today. By a nice polite gentleman. I was the only customer in there at the time but he was really nice. I needed two dozen cupcakes for work and I didn't care what kind. He made sure that there weren't any Noctor peanut allergies before he started to grab the flavors. He asked me what my holiday plans were and how my day was going. I felt he genuinely cared about his service. The place was really cute and not over-the-top. They have cupcakes but also offer drink options. I just got my two boxes of cupcakes and nothing else. They have a little bit of seating inside but not too much. They have drawings of their cupcakes up on the wall. The place is very calming and clean. read more

Delicious cupcakes! I've tried cupcakes all around the US and always think that these are better! My favorite is the Sully, like a monster cookie cupcake. Cake is very moist and they have tons of fun flavors to try. Chocolate cake is delicious albeit very rich. White cake cupcakes are my favorite though. AND by the way, their chocolate chip cookies are amazing! Rich dark chocolate taste, buttery, nice and thick and soft. Honestly the best chocolate chip cookie I have ever had and trust me when I say that is saying something. One *might* be able to make a cookie at home that is almost as good as these but I'd say 98 percent of people can't. It seems like they use good quality ingredients and have some sort of technique that makes them taste so good and bake up so well. They sell their cookie dough in little containers too so you can make them fresh and warm at home whenever you have the craving! read more

Delicious cupcakes- we had a few different varieties. Our favorites were the Mocha and the Salted Caramel. We took 5-10mins to decide on which cupcakes we wanted and the woman working there acted very annoyed with us, made no suggestions and was not very helpful. read more

As I'm from out of town I did not know what to order. I asked for the workers opinion and half-heartedly got an answer about the everyday cupcakes. She seemed to be annoyed with my question. But I took her advice and got the wedding cupcake (almond). Very sweet but tasty! The cake was light and perfect. Others in my group got Cuppy Chow (the cereal topping tasted very stale), a mint frosting cupcake (he hated it and barely even ate half), peanut butter cup (yuuuuuum) and a chocolate one with no frosting maybe called a mudslide with something like a cheesecake filling (ehh, wouldn't get it again). All that to say...take their advice and get one of their everyday cupcakes if you don't want to be daring. There's a reason they offer them everyday! Also...don't ask them too many questions or they will roll their eyes at you thinking you don't see it. read more

So scratch cupcakes. This place I saw all the time, cause we usually go near there to gamestop to stop on by for video games. Well the day before my birthday I went in to get some recommended cupcakes to give out to my friends. Sure I'm suppose to get the cupcakes. Nah I like sharing things. Better then getting some things all the time. Anyways I bought a total of 24 cupcakes in a box. With 4 flavors. I ate Tue chocolate chip one and it was simply amazing. The service was nice and her reccomedations were spot on. The ones I picked out were very popular so I'm glad my friends enjoyed this on my birthday a month ago. Scratch has some of the best cupcakes I have ever eaten. The Waterloo location does not bake on site but receives daily fresh delivery from the Cedar Falls store. The cupcake are displayed so you can easily see and read the descriptions before you make your choices. Cost is very reasonable. you can also get a loyalty card & earn free cupcakes. In my experience service is fast & efficient. I think they had some growing pains when they first opened this site, but those seem to have been corrected. I like that the cupcake papers are color coded dark for the chocolate cupcakes. They offer other choices but there are so many chocolate choices I've never tried any of the others. They also regularly support local charities, which is great considering it started as such a small shop. read more
