We've become regulars over the past few years because the staff are so great. There's not much turnover which means this must be a good place to work. The food is always consistent, too. We are usually breakfast people and even when we go in the evening it's good. Whatever you're doing--keep doing it! We just love our CF VI! read more

We were in Cedar Falls to visit & went with friends to this Village Inn. We have been there in the past & had some relatively good meals. Not so on Tuesday 2/27. We went for breakfast & the restaurant was not very busy. I ordered a French toast breakfast, which included scrambled eggs & a sausage patty. The French toast had a good appearance as plated, but the taste was off. The sausage was to be a patty, but was more just a blob of pork overcooked on one area of the blob. The scrambled egg was again just a solid blob of egg. It definitely was not light & fluffy. It appeared that it was possibly baked & a portion pulled out & reheated, as it was scorched on one side. That was my expensive breakfast! I will only comment in addition on my wife's meal. Two eggs fried hard yolk, sausage, & pancakes. There may have been hash browns, I'm not certain. The eggs were overcooked, the yolk was hard, but so was the rest of the egg! Her sausage was a blob of meat, much like mine. My wife said that the pancakes were good. When the waitress ask about the food, I attempted to tell her that it was not good. Instead of asking why I said the food was not good, she just smiled. I again told her that I was not kidding, the food was not good. She basically just gave a goofy smile & ignored me. I should have asked to talk to the manager, but didn't! From the way the waitress acted it would have been a waste of time. Our friends did not order breakfast, & were not as dissatisfied with their meals. Overall, we were charged over $20.00 for food that was not prepared well at all. The waitress attempted to be very nice, but she was incompetent. I should have demanded to talk to a manager! For basic diner food I was shocked - all the extra touches, good service, somewhat updated decor and a few TVs (haha don't see that in diners). Should have pictured the over medium eggs (can't do them any better and that is tough for any restaurant). Completely recommend and hope they continue to be successful. Also, massive to go cup for tea - that's awesome and hard to find. Lastly, raised floor for a row of booths on back wall, great touch. read more

Food was fantastic! It's been years since I've been to a place where they butter and grill the bun a bit before putting the hamburger in it, reminded me of my childhood days of the Maple Inn in Osage. Hubby said best Rueben sandwich he's ever had as well as the tomato basil soup. I had the French silk pie, he had pecan, both delicious. The staff was super friendly. Several employees working that's how busy it was. We had " Chuck" for our server- he was great & very attentive. We will be back. read more

Stopped here before hitting the road back home. This place is apparently a chain, but it definitely does not have that "chain" atmosphere. Had breakfast (which is served all day), and my fiancé and I were pleasantly surprised! First, as an avid coffee drinker let me just say that this place gives you a POT of coffee for your table, so already major bonus points! At 8:30 AM in a college town, this place was packed, but we were able to get a booth right away. I had the option of creating my own omelette (tomatoes, mushrooms, and ham), which also came with hashbrowns and a side of pancakes (no toast). The omelette was fluffy and thick. The ham was cut into large chunks, and had a nice smoke flavor to it. There were plenty of ingredients stuffed into the omelette, so definitely worth the 59 cent per ingredient charge. The hashbrowns were shredded, and were not bland! They were crispy on the outside and nice and soft in the middle, with no grittiness! The pancakes, of which you get three, were basic buttermilk pancakes, so nothing special there. Overall, the food was good, and the prices were cheap! $25.00 for both of us! The country music omelet was good. But the orange juice was terrible, tasted like colored theme park water.

Filling meal and good service tonight. I went with the special. It was a veggie omelet, multi grain pancakes and fresh fruit. Only $8.19. The omelet was kinda small but the 3 pancakes made up for it. My two year old ate all my fruit. We were seated right away by a very nice host. Our waiter came right away and got our drink order. His name is mark. We ordered when we got our drinks and I don't think it was even 10 minutes and our food arrived. It was all to order and very good. We did not get pie tonight but the bakery case was full of delicious options. Nothing truley amazing about the visit but the food was quality and the service friendly. I'm satisfied. There were plenty of employees on staff tonight. Some mingling amongst themselves too much. Not bothering me but looks bad from a customers perspective. read more

I am a big fan of free pie Wednesday! If you buy ANYTHING on the menu, you get a free slice of FRUIT pie. When getting a meal, I tend to get the VIB, where you get 4 things off a menu of several items. I get hash browns, bacon, sausage, and half a waffle. That is the best value, as it is $6.49. When I don't get breakfast items, I get the roast turkey dinner! It is like a thanksgiving feast! Very tasty and reasonably priced. The service is very good. This is a pretty poppin' place all throughout the day, and it is usually very busy late at night! However, they always get you seated very promptly. This is definitely my favorite breakfast place out of this, Perkins, or IHOP! read more

I have fond memories of the Village Inn from over 30 years ago when it first opened in Cedar Falls. Now back here living, I thought I'd take the kid there for pancakes after a particularly successful teeny tiny mall experience at College Square on a lazy Tuesday evening. On the up side: Their pancakes are delicious. In fact, I don't typically eat pancakes because I'm not a maple syrup fan, but VI has great alternative syrup flavors and the actual pancakes are fluffy and divine. The two stars are for the pancakes. I think I got a relatively new waitress. When we'd made our order, she ripped the menu out from under my hands, which were sitting on top of the menu. The silverware was filthy. Water refills were courtesy of me walking back to the wait station to get my own. She was very sweet though. Part of the dish was one egg and I ordered it soft boiled. When my meal was almost done, they brought me a hard boiled egg. The waitress took it back and was told they don't do soft-boiled because "It takes too long..." Pft. I'll go back for those pancakes and maybe a pie, but I'm thinking I need to dial it down in the expectation department moving forward. read more

This was quite possibly the best Village Inn I have ever been too! Quick and friendly service. My eggs were cooked to perfection. Our waiter (I think his name was Joe) was so kind and helpful. The last two times we were at Village Inn we were highly disappointed in the service and both times the food arrived to us cold enough that the pancakes wouldn't even melt the butter. Complaining to staff was like talking to the wall. Never had these issues when the old staff was there. Used to be there two to three times per month but haven't been back for two months. read more

Giving this place a review so that people from out of town (like me) won't think, "Is this place closed? No reviews for over a year..". Nope. Not closed. Decent service, food, and atmosphere. Traditional breakfast choices with a few different sandwich choices. I had the Benedict, husband had strawberry crepes, and daughter had chicken fried steak & eggs. While It was a little early for me to try the pie, it looked delicious & free on Wednesday. In summary, it reminds me of a Denny's meeting Baker's Square. Disappointed in service and wait. We had three different people wait on us. They brought a pot of coffee no cups. We had to wave someone down for cup. Our food took 55 minutes to get and was lukewarm. My skillet had a sticker on my guacamole the waiter took it off right there and handed to me. The pancake order was messed up and had to be remade. Had a great breakfast! We have never had a waitress ask us if the eggs looked like they were the way we wanted when she first brought them. Sometimes they come back and check, but it is too late to have them redo the eggs or whatever we might not like. My husband is a bit fussy...We really thought that she did a great job by being concerned that we were happy from the very beginning. Try this place! You will like it! read more

I wanted to review Village inn because it only has one review. I think the reason for this is probably because a lot of older people eat here, but it is great especially on Wednesday nights. They have a free slice of fruit pie with any purchase every Wednesday! All you have to get is a drink or some ice cream! If you are hungry though, try the Wisconsin cheese soup and their chicken ranch sandwich. Both items left me full and satisfied. So if you're looking for a quiet place that has a few perks, this is your place. read more
