The last 3 times I have tried going into your store you have either not had any gluten freeish donuts or someone decided to decorate them. I come to hurts at all different times of day. I enjoy stopping. Normally your staff are friendly but within the last month everytime I try to grab a donut they are out. Set aside for the next day for pick up. Or this last time I called ahead to see if you had any gluten freeish donuts available undecorated. I was told you had 3 but when I arrive they are all decorated with ingredients containing dairy. Hurt's Donut? Yes please. I've visited a few voodoo donut locations around the country and Hurt's Donut makes voodoo seem like generic. Open 24/7. Is there ever a bad time to get a donut? I am a big fan of trying new donut shops and this place did not disappoint! They have so many fun flavors to choose from I had a hard time narrowing it down. A variety of filled, cake, raise, etc. It's such a cute shop too, a fun atmosphere and a good place to hang out! Staff was friendly and helped recommend some popular flavors. He recommended that jesús as it is most popular. It was like a churro and wow oh wow! Probably my favorite. First of all, and most important ... the donuts are FRESH. We live in Ankeny, but travel LOTS, and whenever we are in Cedar Falls, we stop at Hurts Donuts at 100 E. 2nd Street. I'm attaching a pic, since there is no way for me to described in words the variety of donuts and pastries they carry. If you want to dine in, there are a few tables inside, and there is also a nice green space owned by the city that is nice to hang out by outside. And, here's a tip. If you're like us and had just finished a huge meal on the Parkade you may not feel like eating the donut just yet. If you're faced with a near 2 hr trip home in the car on an afternoon with high's in the low 90's ... do what we do. Bring along a small cooler when you leave the house in the morning, put just a bit of ice in the bottom (no need to load it up) and when you come out of Hurts Donuts, place the donuts in plastic zip lock baggies atop the ice (preferably in a tray) and drive home. Very turned off about the service we received here. When we got it, the gal asked us what she can get for us. Since we are from out of town and first time there, I said we are browsing around to see what flavors there were. We decided to check it out since we were looking at the other shops around there. A few seconds later, she asked if I knew how many donuts I was planning to buy. I told her I don't know yet since I just told her a few moments ago I was looking to see what the flavors were. My husband asked her why she's asking how many we plan to buy? She said so she knows how big of a box she'll need. Ok...? Weird. So after a couple mins, a different girl assisted me when I was ready to choose my flavors. Again, she also asked how many donuts I was going to buy so she can get the correct box size. I love donuts and was excited to hear this company was making an emergency truck stop here. Preorder was easy enough. Donuts are higher priced than most but also larger. The pickup was in a very strange mutlifamily apartment complex rather than a more open space. But generally, it was efficient. People were friendly. Donuts...as shown, tried a bit of everything. Out of all, the apple fritter was the best and true to form, flavor. So many of the mixed dozen were cake donuts, which are not my thing. But, some had good flavor such as the streusel and the blueberry. Many toppings were soggy. The cinnamon rolls were bricks, not yeast, soft and minimal flavor. The maple bacon bars were ok but way underdone bacon. Unfortunately none of these was fresh that day, as any good donut should be. All in all, some better than others. But I'd just the same pick up a pack of donuts at Kwik Trip. I was really hoping for better. (Krispy Kreme would be ideal but we don't have anything local!) read more

Amazing, delicious donuts with a playful business atmosphere. Their donuts are extremely dense and extremely sweet, and amazingly delicious. Parking can be a pain because of the downtown location, and the donuts are priced like gourmet donuts, but it's definitely very delicious donuts that are outside the "typical" donuts you used to be able to get in Cedar Falls. I'm happy they're here! PROS: -Such an insanely large selection of fresh donuts. Filled donuts? They have them. Gluten-free-ish donuts? They have them. Regular cake donuts? Have them. Cake donuts with insane flavors like candy bars and cereal? Those too. These aren't just the standard donuts you tend to see at Hy-Vee and Wal-mart. They're like the "gourmet" selection that Hy-Vee offers - only way, way more options. -Employees have always been helpful too! They explain the donut organization system, what customer favorites are, and talk about how each one of the donuts taste. The woman behind the counter has always been patient with me and my inability to decide on things and has a ton of information about what they make. One time, I ordered a donut, and she popped in back to pull a fresh, just-iced donut for me instead of the one in the case. Amazing service. -They have a "Hurt's Donut" coupon t-shirt. Buy the t-shirt, and every time you wear it in, you qualify for a Buy One, Get One special. How awesome is that? -The donuts themselves are very, very satisfying. Honestly, unless you have a serious sweet tooth, you're going to find that one is more-than-enough. Their donuts are very dense - and amazingly covered in tons of sweet icing. There's nothing "healthy" about these donuts - just a serious sweetbomb. Even their cake donuts are a clear sugar experience. (They do offer some less-sweet options as well - though their expertise is clearly in the sugarbomb-experience). -They also sell a wide variety of drinks to go with your donuts as well. Soda, milks, and they offer coffee drinks here as well. -There's seating inside, but I imagine the majority of their customers take their donuts to go. They have high-top seating as well as regular, multi-chair tables. CONS: -Donuts are a bit expensive. Not horrendously so (and about on-par with the price you'd pay over at our Cedar-Falls-beloved Scratch Cupcakes too). And honestly, one donut is more-than-enough for most people. Everyone I've given a donut to ends up tapping out before they finish the one! -Located downtown in one of the "up and coming" areas without a dedicated parking lot: that's the problem in itself. Definitely expect to need to traverse to find a parking spot to make it to Hurt's - especially as it's next door to Urban Axe and Urban Pizza (two hopping businesses) and Second State Brewing. What's the point of being open 24 hours if you don't have any donuts to sell. Came in at 11:30 and had nothing.

I like the concept of specialty donuts a lot. And the donuts were supersized - so the premium pricing was easier to understand. Unfortunately, the donuts were NOT fresh. Clearly they had been sitting in the case for a LONG time. I asked if they had any freshly made donuts and was told "they've all been made in the last 24 hours". But when I asked were there any made in the last hour - I got a blank look and then a tepid "no" as the answer. I have eaten donuts in dozens of different places across the USA. I understand that they make them in batches. But no fresh donuts in a donut shop is very unusual. The counter help said come back tomorrow..."we probably will have some fresh then" Great concept. I first visited this establishment shortly after they opened and I honestly wasn't wowed. My anticipation for their opening was so much better than my first visit. So I was hesitant to stop in again. I'm so glad I did! My first visit they hardly had any variety of donuts. Probably because they were so busy. When I went last week they had so many donuts I could hardly choose! So many flavors, toppings and varieties I was like a kid in a candy store. The employee who helped us was so polite and friendly. You could tell she enjoyed her job. The donuts were ok. Nothing to get too excited about. I am only giving this place 2 stars because of the staff. Yes I know, a lot of people do not care about the covid and its obvious these employees did not. We were assisted by 2 teenagers. Both had masks under their nose. The cashier asked the other teenage boy employee to make my coffee. Not only was he waring his mask below his knows, but he rubbed his nose and then continued to make my coffee with out washing, sanitizing his hands. Yuck. Alright so let me start off with the Doughnut Emergency Truck is the best thing I have seen for Doughnuts! However I can't eat them but my Fiancé and Daughter loved the order they got! They had a delivery come to Dysart and we were skeptical at first but went a ahead and paid the $15 for three apple fritters. When we went and picked them up at the local park it was very quick and easy orders were boxed up and ready to go I was there for all of 30 seconds they remained a distance away from us and had mask and gloves on. When we got home we opened the boxes and they fritter was the size of the box it could feed a family of three very easily! I've had Hurts donuts before at event and always thought they were good. We stopped in today for this first time and had an ok experience. On the positive side the place was nice, clean, big windows and open space. The staff were friendly although I think they could have been more helpful in explaining the different flavors or steering us in the right direction. They had a lot of choices but many were gone. Only one of the available staff was helping at the counter, as soon as someone came up behind us I felt rushed to decide. Many of the options seemed super sugary which I'm sure a lot of people love but I was looking for a something that wouldn't send me into diabetic shock lol. I'm certain kids are in heaven with the options available. I settled on a maple bacon because I enjoy maple & have never had maple bacon. It was good but the frosting was a bit grainy/gritty. Overall not bad but wouldn't make a special trip back. HyVee bakery has similar choices and I think we would prefer those but if you're looking for a place downtown this would be a nice spot to meet for coffee and enjoy a donut. read more

The first time we went to Hurts we were enamored! Where else can you get coconut cream donuts, lemon cream, cherry pie, apple pie donuts and made so fresh? We loved it and the waitress was very friendly. Clean place... we were the only ones in there..... but second time was not very pleasant! The music was so loud we could barely hear each other talk across the table! We were not in a BAR so we were less than thrilled! The donuts tasted like a day old on this occasion!
