AMAZING homemade donuts in the heart of Ankeny! Was introduced to Daylight donuts through Ankeny friends and they did not disappoint. Worth the drive if you're out and about in the morning. Visited on a Sunny day at 9am on a Wednesday and their donut case was full of treats! And they were tasty. Walked out with 2 glazed donuts for $2.xx before gratuity. Michelle, the owner, was very polite and welcoming. I've been to Daylight Donuts for a breakfast party before and it was such a great time. Daylight Donuts have been catered to events I've attended and their donuts are always a bit hit. The shop is full of mini Polaroid pictures on the walls that many patrons have taken and posted. It was our last day in Des Moines and I stopped by early morning to pick up a few things to bring home: 1) Pecan roll 2) Vanilla old-fashioned (2) 3) Chocolate old-fashioned (2) 4) Chocolate-glazed bavarian cream (2) 5) Blueberry cake donut (1) 6) Chocolate glazed cake donut (1) 7) Raspberry jelly (1) 8) Chocolate glazed cake donut with sprinkles (1) 9) Chocolate glazed yeast donut (1) We had a +6 hour drive home so I prepared an ice bag and insulated cooler bag to store the donuts. All of them held up for our drive. My personal favorites are the pecan roll, raspberry jelly, and blueberry cake. Interestingly, I noticed they have a sign for boba but I don't think it was available during the early morning hours. Some of the staff were just entering the store and preparing the boba as I was leaving around 9 am. And that's completely reasonable since most boba places aren't open until noon. I was in here to check out their boba teas. The guy who waited on me was very good about providing descriptions of their drinks. We got the tiger and strawberry smoothie(see pics) The tiger had good taste(I got it with black tea). I had some of the strawberry smoothie and it was good as well, but the tiger one tasted better to me. I plan to come back soon to try some of their other drinks and donuts. Daylight Donuts now has "Happy Day Bubble Teas". They have lots of menu items and my favorite is "Dalgona Coffee". It is a thick and sweet foam of coffee with fresh milk, such a perfect coffee to open a happy day with beautiful energy and positivity. First time coming here and trying the donuts and oh my they were so fresh and amazingly delicious, I'm usually super picky about what donuts I eat but I couldn't be with these ones because they all are so good I just couldn't choose. I decided to stick with the classic glazed donut shaped into a bow-tie and a chocolate filled cream donut which I love so much. I definitely recommend if your looking for a change from your regular gas station donuts, come here and try these you might just find your new favorite donut place like I did! read more

I highly recommend this place. My friends and I come here pretty often and it's always great. The service is always quick and very friendly. We like to come in get some coffee and donuts, and then just sit and talk. The donuts and coffee are always top notch. A year or so ago I was at Daylight and saw a customer drop a glass bottle and the lady was so sweet and understanding. They really deserve top marks for customer service. Daylight Donuts are pretty tasty. A lot of options here, cake donuts are good here, and the Pine cone donut was excellent. The old fashioned was ok nothing special. They do have some good milk/juice options to go with your donuts. Didn't see any jelly donuts in the case, will have to go back and see if they other them. read more

Excellent donuts, they might need to make more though, pretty slim pickings if you get there at 8am or after sometimes. Also they should be open Sunday but also understandable to not be. Bear claws are twice as big as ambrosias. read more

Everytime I go in they are almost out of donuts, so the selection is not real plentiful, and the donuts are not real fresh. It's almost as if they are day old donuts. Ambrosia Donuts in town always makes plenty of donuts, so the selection is good, and they taste fresh. I think Daylight Donuts needs to step up their game. read more

This place is absolutely delicious. I was hesitant to try it because I'm kind of picky with donuts, but oh my goodness I am glad I did. I had the glazed twisted thing (no idea what it's called and I ate it too quickly to take a picture). I'm really glad I don't live in ankeny or else I'd probably come here every day. When I walked in there was a weird smell that made me want to walk out immediately. The donut holes were packaged in dozens already which was a red flag for not fresh and they weren't. Also, the holes had a fruity taste and were really heavy almost cake like. Overall, the donuts were ok but looking for a good solid offer next time. read more

A cold and rainy morning means I want a warm breakfast. Stopped in to try their sausage rolls. Ordered two cake donuts and two sausage rolls to go. The place had several tables which were occupied. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Clean and bright place. Friendly service and fast as well. Private parking lot. Not open on Sunday. Bummer. The sausage rolls were good but different than what I expected. Pastry was puffier and not as flaky as the English version. The sausage was definitely different.
