My mother is a client as well and as a high school student I have never had difficulty checking out with our card on file. Rae seemed overwhelmed and dismissive to me. Scottfree Salon is the best salon I've been to. To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect before I came in for my first appointment several years ago, but what I have come to know is consistently friendly, professional and excellent service. My stylist, Emily, has come to memorize and perfect my hairstyle after the numerous times I've been in. She is an excellent stylist, and for the price, she should be. What I really like is the post cut rinse, where all of the prickly little hairs that were just cut off get rinsed down the drain instead of falling into your collar. You don't get a rinse at fantastic Sam's! Also, the scalp massages during your wash are perfect to relax after a stressful day. If you need more fe-stressing, you are able to order drinks from the bar downstairs, which is a nice touch. The lobby is modern and elegant, with a charm that's hard to find anywhere else but in this older (but well kept) building. There's even a lounge behind the lobby where you can relax or work. It came in handy when my girlfriend came in for an up-do before a work party while I waited (the up-do was phenomenal, by the way). There is also complimentary valet parking which is extremely convenient because street parking can be hard to find. Also, prepare to book your cuts in advance, I'm used to having to book about 5-6 weeks out. Short notice is hard to come by if you need a specific stylist, but call and Kyle will definitely do his best to fit you in. read more

When I arrived I asked for hilites (caramel/auburn)to match my roots so I could go lighter gradually over time. Dani added tons of foils and I didn't understand why so many. Left in for a long time which seemed odd. Washed it out and my hair was orange, I was horrified. She must have removed all the color. Said she would be adding in 2 colors and showed me, light brown and auburn/gold. Turned out kind of blonde/gray-green. Color looked worse in lighting at home and looked awful with my skin color. Not even close to what I requested. I truly was in shock. The next day woke up to see all the ends are like frizzy wires - completely ruined. Also, when she washed my hair she started massaging my head/neck. It hurt so much that I told her she had to be gentler. She started again & it was the same. I had to ask her to just stop it. Day after the back of my head/neck are so sore & feel bruised. After I realized my hair was totally ruined and damaged from the treatment I received at the salon, I contacted the manager to let him know what happened and give him a chance to offer a refund towards the $250 I was charged! I left 2 messages for him and never received a call back. The 3rd time I called he answered and said he was meaning to call me. I had written a summary of everything that happened and he said he didn't think they would offer anything because they didn't see it. Said he would check with the owner and asked me to send him the summary which I did. He then called back twice to ask additional info which I gave him. Almost 1 week later he left a message stating they would offer no refund. I ended up purchasing a toner which helped put color back to where it was before appt. Then had to get haircut for all the damaged ends. Took an hour. Stylist said it looked like I had white wiry squiggles. She said it will take my hair at least 1 year to recover from this. 1 month later I have now had 3 haircuts and 4 professional conditioning treatments. I can't use any permanent hair color because my hair is so brittle. When I walked into the salon, my hair was just hitting my shoulders. Now it is just slightly below my ear. Had a hair cut with Jennifer. My hair is very difficult because it's curly- so I specifically requested a stylists that works with natural curly hair. This is exacerbated by the fact that I like my hair short. Curly short cut it seems is a very difficult request for most stylists, usually gets butchered. I asked for *even* bob- got a bowl cut. It was definitely longer in the back, and shorter in the front. This usually happens when stylists cut my hair wet, because it ends up curling more in the front, giving the illusion of shorter hair in the front. So, I would not recommend Jennifer for natural, curly hair cuts- at least short ones. read more

I was driving down the road headed into Milwaukee, excited because I'd never been, and needed my hair done immediately if not sooner. They were super nice when I called and got me in when I wanted which I loved. They are also, you guessed it, a Kerastase salon. Yass! It was easy to find and free valet parking in a downtown area? I have never. No, really, never. Sweet! I had been driving for almost six hours thanks to my crappy phone GPS so i was not expecting the stairs I encountered when I opened the door to the salon. Before I got up them I wondered how they accommodated special needs. I still wonder. Anyway, too many stairs that led into this sitting area, but when I checked in there was another sitting area. It was weird, but really nicely decorated. Let me preface this by saying I came in looking like I'd driven 24 hours. I would have changed but I got so lost that it put me really far behind, hence the ragged look. I'd say sorry, but they didn't offer to chauffeur me around so this would have to do. i was really, really, really contemplating giving this salon three stars. If it hadn't been for the wonderful owner, my great stylist, Jensen (sp?) and my amazing hairstyle I would have. Let me explain. When I walked up to the front desk whoever that guy is that sits there and does everything needs to be let go. I mean, he does not need to be the first and last person people see when they come into this salon. If he could just point you to where you needed to go without saying a word he would. I am pretty sure he'd drowned if it rained inside, that's how far his Milwaukee (Wisconsin!) nose was stuck up in the air (let me also say I have never, ever met a rude person in Wisconsin, I love this state, he is a major exception). Every single interaction was just ugh. I went and sat on a couch and was waiting. While I was there I was so achingly tired that I started to fall asleep. This guy walks past me and hits my leg waking me up and doesn't even say excuse me. I had to shake my head because I thought I was in NYC and I'm not supposed to be there for a couple of weeks! Then when it's time for me to go he, shockingly, doesn't acknowledge me. He's helping this customer who is seriously writing her appointments into a paper calendar (I'm over throwback stuff, I was without my life, aka iPhone, for a day and a half. NOPE), but she can't seem to get a day right. Or a time right. Or a stylist right. She is literally going day by day, hour by hour, stylist by stylist to try and find an appointment. This guy isn't even noticing that she's holding the line up so I interject (NYC rude, sorry) and say 'I'd love to keep doing this, but I've been driving all day and I gotta go, how much?' He tells me, gives me change and I go. He didn't even ask her to figure it out while he took two seconds to swipe my credit card. I want to bet he could have done both at the same time. Anyway, Jensen was perfect. She literally is a star. She's been doing hair for just a few years, but she knows her stuff. I would have her do my hair any day. Loved her. Keep her, get rid of the receptionist. I was not in the mood. read more

Unfortunately, after some consideration, I've decided to update my review. I came here, as usual, for a cut and blow dry. The stylist mentioned that my hair color, in spite of having not been colored in a loooong time, looked as though it was growing out. She offered to apply a gloss, which I've had before, and I said, why not. Applied the color, gave me a cut and dry (which looked fine) and sent me on my way. Well, whatever she did came out...weird. It definitely looked worse than prior, and it gave almost a pink tinge to my roots--definitely not what I had in mind. I called the salon in a tizzy, and they assured me that I could come in and have it fixed, no problem at all. I returned to the salon, and the stylist I asked me what I wanted to have done. I looked at her a bit quizzically and then said "have the color corrected, please?" When I started to explain to her how I like my hair blow dried, she interrupted me "this service doesn't include blow drying, you'll pay extra for that." I couldn't hide the surprise from my face; weren't they supposed to be trying to make me happy after THEIR error? Whatever, I let it go. Well, the stylist applied some sort of color removal agent, and didn't offer to re-do the service so I wound up with a color I *DID* want. Again, eh. I was kind of irked at this point and just wanted to get it all over with. The thing that downright pissed me off was that, upon checking out, they charged me. I asked why I was being charged and apparently, though a color correction is free, they hadn't charged me enough at the previous appointment. So they were making up for it at this visit. At this point, I was aghast. I had to come in twice, I had a weird color applied and then removed, ultimately leaving me with a color I still didn't want, they left my hair wet to walk out in the freezing cold, and now they were charging me to "make up for" the underpricing of my previous visit. I would have been better off just washing my hair a bunch at home and saving myself the $50. I was visibly irritated and definitely said something to the receptionist, who started to get really snippy with me in front of a lounge full of guests waiting. Unwilling to make a scene, I left without pursuing it further. I am not one to sling grumpy reviews, but this was just too aggravating to say nothing at all. read more

Saturday: got a bad haircut - stylist did a dry cut after flat-ironing my wavy thick hair. Sunday: called and asked if there was someone who could fix my bad haircut. Monday: got a call back apologizing and scheduling me with Parker, who was definitely going to fix this mess. Today: had an OVER TWO HOUR experience with Parker, who... yes... you guessed it. Flat-ironed my hair and did the same dry cut. Now I have even more layers and look like a bad version of the Rachel cut from the 90's. I cannot describe how frustrating it is to emerge from an experience where I felt pressured into doing a haircut technique that I specifically said I didn't want to do, spend two hours getting a bad haircut, and emerge with a worse haircut. And my ends are fried because of all the ironing. Never again. I'm just going back to my stylist in Chicago who charges way less and can cut my hair in a way that always looks fabulous. It's better to spend two hours in the car than two hours in a haircut that turns out terribly. read more

She did an amazing job on both - I highly recommend her, she is incredibly gifted in both facets. Emily is amazing, can literally do ANYTHING in terms of a haircut, will tell you if that crazy picture you brought in, will work. Taboot, if that crazy picture won't work on your hair type, she will explain what will, and will design on the fly - you will be beyond satisfied 100% of the time. She takes the time to understand your lifestyle, and (to be honest) your willingness to style your hair. She can make either option look famous. That's not a typo, she can cut your hair so that you literally look like a movie star when you get out of the shower. To make it even better, she will TEACH you how to style your hair. It might sound dumb, but she even demonstrates the specific angle of the blow dryer thats required to tame your cowlick to make your bangs lay correctly - she's AMAZING! This place rocks! Jennifer doesn't care enough to actually attempt a good job. She butchered my hair. I had to go to another salon in Madison, WI, (HAIR on Monroe Street) where a gentleman fixed the nightmare she left on my head. Very upset with my last (and final) experience with this stylist. She was late for the appointment by almost a half hour because she was caught up gossiping with her client before, she rushed through my haircut and did a horrible job. I would not recommend her to anyone. In fact, I wouldn't recommend this salon to anyone. read more

I tried Scottfree Salon because I won a gift certificate at a Silent Auction. I went for a cut and highlight and was so disappointed. I showed the stylist a picture of a cut that had a slight A line that got longer towards the front. I realize my hair will not look like a picture of a celebrity, but this was so far off and just terrible. What the stylist did was not gradual at all, shorter than I wanted, and the top layers were cut longer than the ones underneath. When I got home I immediately texted my normal stylist at Feather Hair Studio and asked if she could get me in the next morning to fix it. Also, it took 3 hours and she only did a partial highlight around the crown of my head, which does not look great either. My experience today was wonderful from the moment I walked in the door. The receptionist promptly greeted me with a smile and took my coat and offered me a beverage. This is the first time I have been to this salon and my stylist, Sara was fantastic and very professional. Not only did she cut my hair how I wanted, but she educated me on how to style at home and which products to use with out being pushy! Since I am not from Milwaukee, this is my go to salon. I've never had a hard time scheduling an appointment and the receptionist, Kyle, is always super friendly and accommodating. The salon itself has a very nice layout, although, it's not very big so it can feel a tad crammed. I've typically seen Calla for both hair and makeup and really enjoy her as a person and stylist. However, I know almost all the stylists here are very talented. I once had my makeup done by Dani and it was absolutely flawless. I was amazed at her work. I decided to get my hair balayaged here once (Yes, I betrayed my colorist back home) and wasn't too happy with the results. I noticed at this salon that they all seem to do the balayage the same way and the end result just looks like low lights. Balayage is suppose to appear more natural and soft and I felt like my hair appeared harsh and stripy. I blame myself for not doing more research into the salon. Loyalty is key when it comes to hair...Never betray your trusted colorist/stylist! I once had a simple hairstyle done by Natalja--just simple beach waves and was very pleased with the outcome. She used a certain technique to create the curls and it looked so effortlessly beautiful. I would definitely see her again in the future. Another reason I give this salon a thumbs up are the prices. Prices are fairly reasonable compared to salons back in the Chicago burbs! So overall, I am a fan...maybe just not for hair coloring. read more

I came to Scottfree Salon because I had been to 2 prior hair salons wanting to achieve the photo attached and each beautician did not know what they were doing each time I walked out with brassy looking hair and they touched my roots up with the darkest brown when I told them that I wanted to be blonde. Reina told me not to worry and that I came to the right place and that she was going to have to do some magic but if I have time she will correct all of the prior mistakes. I've finally found a salon in Milwaukee! Got my haircut this past week, and it's the best one I've had since I lived in London 5 years ago. Yes, 5 years of mediocre haircuts... Depressing. Parker was extremely knowledgeable, I have a good amount of fine hair and he made it look fantastic! He gave me some great information about how to care for my hair, and wasn't pushy about buying a bunch of products. This place is definitely worth the money- not to mention the interior is airy and beautiful, none of those salon lights that make you look like you haven't slept in a week. WOWOWOW where do I start???? Everyone here is so talented and sweet. So glad I picked them for myself and my bridal party for hair & makeup for our 3.26.16 wedding Kyle, who runs the front desk was a dream to work with. He's so on top of things and was great working with our day-of schedule and keeping everything moving. They let us bring by some mimosa stuff for drinks on the day of and kept it cold in their fridge for us. That morning we also brought breakfast with us from the hotel- they're so chill about everything! We girls and I had like 6 different stylists for hair and makeup and unfortunately I don't remember all their names but seriously their hair and makeup was all beautiful. Ashley did my hair and she's THE BOMB!! I have TONS of really LONG and CURLY hair and she totally handled it like a champ. She trimmed my ends at my trail. Then the day before I came in for a wash and blow out. Then the day-of, she styled it with the most amazing braid and incorporated my last-minute flower headpiece beautifully. Most importantly, my hair stayed amazing all night. I'll post some pictures when we get them back. Even though MKE is an hour and a half from where we live I'm going to make an appt with her to go back and cut my hair. The Salon also stays perfect temp even with all the people in there- important on your wedding day because you don't want to sweat out your hair and ruin your makeup before you even leave! I cannot be more than happy with my first experience here seeing Ashley Hoff for my hair service! I found parking right outside and the salon has lots of natural lighting and character to it. I told Ashley what I wanted, and she not only delivered, she worked some MAJOR magic. I saw Jessica at Scottfree who corrected my hair perfectly to my natural color with subtle highlights and at the end of my appointment I almost cried with happiness. I saw Reyna today for a cut and highlight and she was absolutely amazing!! She knew what I wanted with my poor description and spent the time it took to get everything right. I have very thick, curly, long hair and she knew all the secrets of cutting it without me having to say a word. I usually sit in the salon chair nervous, hoping the stylist doesn't cut the layers too short or crossing my fingers that they understand how much my curl would bounce back, and usually leave a bit disappointed. Reyna gets it completely, so I could just relax! She also got the perfect, natural color with the highlights she put in and was great to talk to. Scottfree is a great place and Reyna is the best. Second time at Scott Free and most definitely the last time. Receptionist Kyle told me my stylist was $30 then when I had to reschedule with a new stylist he told me $35. Just paid $55 after being price gouged at the reception desk. There was no miscommunication as I had clearly repeated the price back over the phone. Reception and/or management just gave me the shrugged shoulder. Very disappointed with both experiences. I had trepidation returning after the first experience now they sealed the deal.
