Urologists tend to have poor bedside manner, for some reason, and alas, Dr. Angel is below average, so look somewhere else.

Dr Karpman changed my life. I am a gay man in my forties,…read morewith a happy marriage and a successful career. However, sex is a very important part of my social life and how I deal with stress. I was having erectile disfunction issues that were changing how I lived my life and making me frustrated and depressed. I called his office and from that point on, everything was spotless. His receptionists were fast, efficient and helped me to figure out my insurance was accepted. I got an appointment and Doctor Karpman was helpful, frank, talked in a language I could understand, was very clear about the risks and outcome of the surgery and more importantly, kept an open mind about some peculiarities of my case. I didn't want to get a circumcision, so he offered an alternative treatment and I got another one, so my foreskin was expanded enough that Doctor Karpman felt he could do the surgery without risking infection. As a gay man dealing with mostly straight health care, even in San Francisco, sometimes it feels like people are not aware of a lot of differences and you have to be cautious about explaining things. I never felt that way with Doctor Karpman and even morr, when I neexed him to he listened, he kept an open mind, respected my autonomy, instead of telling me he knew better. And he incorporated the knowledge he gained from this as a new option for future patients. The surgery was not easy for me, but it was well done, the recovery process was uphill, but it had no unexpected issues, no infection and now I am very happy with my sex life. I am happier, calmer and more satisfied with life. Thanks, doctor Karpman!

Locally, we couldn't get a timely urology appointment even with an urgent referral, so we went to see Dr. Wesley Kong at El Camino Health Urology out of pocket. From the first visit, Dr. Kong was a lifesaver for my dad: * He took the time to review my dad's ER records and explain clearly what was going on with his severely enlarged prostate. * He removed the catheter safely, did a careful voiding trial, and made sure my dad could urinate on his own before letting him leave. * He started the right medications, monitored my dad closely, and set up a logical plan for follow‑up and long‑term management. * He spoke to us with respect and empathy, answered all our questions, and treated my dad as a person, not a number. Thanks to Dr. Kong, my dad's pain improved, he got off the catheter, and we finally felt like someone was truly looking out for him. We drove from the Central Valley to the Bay Area to see him, and it was worth every mile and every penny. I highly recommend Dr. Wesley Kong and the El Camino Health Urology team to anyone looking for a urologist who is not only highly competent, but also kind, patient, and truly committed to his patients' well‑being.

He thoroughly arranged the necessary tests, including MRI, biopsy, and PSMA PET/CT, which led to a clear and timely diagnosis. Because I was concerned about the risk of infection, I specifically requested a transperineal (TP) biopsy, and Dr. Shinghal was very receptive and performed it without issue. I truly appreciated how he listened to my concerns and accommodated my request. After the cancer was confirmed, he took the time to clearly explain the available treatment options, discussing both the benefits and potential concerns of each. This helped me make an informed and confident decision about my treatment. His recommendation of Dr. Yao for surgery was excellent and made a meaningful difference in my overall care and outcome. Dr. Shinghal is professional, thoughtful, and genuinely patient-centered. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and trustworthy urologist.

There was nothing remotely like "hello nice to meet you." Not even close. As Phonsombat entered the room he was already speaking in a raised tone of voice , I had never laid eyes on him before yet he was angry. Pushy, plowing ahead without seeking / allowing a word from me, said I "talked to" this person or that person as though to use that as a threat, was verbally aggressive, wanting to subjugate, construing my medical picture as dire without bothering to acquire one word of information directly from me, or, refer to medical conventions, statistics regarding data pertaining to outcomes. I've made critical comments about other Urologists at PAMF .... I suspect Phonsombat has taken on the task of the Urology department "hit man". He isn't the first. He was not able to comment on a question about a drug I'm taking, a commonly prescribed drug in urology. I answered it for him after the fact. He does not resemble a solid stable seasoned professional in any way I could see. Read all the books no doubt, anybody can do that. Possesing a depth of character and humanity, that is a different matter. That is what makes a great doc. I had decided on the newest treatment well known for yielding equivalent result with fewer side effects. Phonsombat used the hackneyed "that is not proven" to weakly attempt diminish that decision. That is the "weasel" response of the century used in American medicine (that would be the system that is on track all by itself to bankrupt the wealthiest nation) , it's like saying global heating isn't proven. We will never be able to afford double blind proof of everything so we need to be smart about integrating empiric evidence ... or perish. It's not complicated but does require smarts. The bizzare part, he was angry and didn't even realize it, so natural. In what universe does a doctor begin a first meeting with a new patient in an angry state and not realize it.? If he was aware .... well that is substandard medical care and indicates he is an emotionally bereft as regards self awareness. Avoid this guy like the plague. Further checking regarding medical facts reveal he is clueless in factual matters here. I'm 72 with a lifetime of experience with world class old school physicians , firstly my father a beloved pediatrician, public health official and founder of Redwood Medical in Redwood City. I also have MD degree and trained with game changing psychology , medical /psychiatric researchers prior to getting a medical degree. This unsavory picture is repeating itself with PAMF urologists. Another PAMF urologist Keith Lee blew a gasket and withheld proper care I'm sure because he needs to be up on a pedestal and is not in my eyes. I received a threatening letter from someone claiming to be the "clinical coordinator" at PAMF urology, a woman who is clearly unstable , angry , obviously disturbed. She threatened to cut off all medical care after my observations about other PAMF docs I regard as substandard. She singled out one comment and worked very (very) hard, we're talking serious overtime, at trying to misconstrue me as racist. Not only does she appear to be uneducated she was unable to leave her rage out of her (so called) professional life. If you are going to be a professional you need to learn to leave that stuff at home, or better yet, heal it completely. To me its shocking PAMF would employ someone like that. Its ominous about PAMF. I also have to say I've met a few really top notch docs at PAMF. Top of the heap, good people.
