Yelpers, thank you for being on point with this fantastic doctor. I needed a urologist for a spermatocelectomy (is surgery to remove a spermatocele. A spermatocele is a cyst (sac of fluid) that contains sperm. It forms inside your scrotum on the outside of your testicle.) The doctor's initial consultation was to the point, full of background data, informative, he let me see the ultrasound tests with him, and most importantly he let me make the final decision. Pre surgery.... he stopped in to check on me during prep. The anesthesiologist also followed him to check on me. Very genuine, personable and alert. Post surgery .... was able to take a question from me via phone with no waiting. Very grateful for the fine service. This was my third recent visit at this surgical center and I must say I'm very impressed with all the surgeons, nurses and admins. They run a tight ship here. Very clean and very professional . I don't think you can go wrong with any of the staff here. read more

Hmm. A urologist that's kind of a dick? Ahh, the irony. Well, that's not nice. And perhaps that isn't a fair statement either. I am sure that Dr. Aigen is a completely competent and fine surgeon.... as long as you know what procedure you want and he agrees. If speed and precision without a lot of discussion are what you're after, then he's your man. If you need to truly consult with someone that will fully listen, answer questions, quell fears and discuss the pro/cons of all available options... go elsewhere. He can be dismissive and abrupt, which aren't highly valued qualities when you might be feeling at your most vulnerable. And his examination rooms have huge open windows which make you feel like you're showing your bare ass to the entire El Camino/Route 85 interchange. Which some of us might secretly like.. but, well... that's an entirely different conversation. read more

I met Dr Aigen following a trip to the urgent care which revealed a kidney blockage. During this process, the tests and surgery which followed, Dr Aigen clearly explained the problem, the cause, the options to address it and ultimately heal. He is extremely knowledgeable and direct in a caring way. In addition, Dr Aigen is friendly and available for his patients. I only have positive things to say about Dr Aigen and his staff, and highly recommend Dr Aigen for your urology needs as a result. read more

I had to consult Dr Aigen for a bladder issue. I really did not like the fact he was looking at me as a business and how much money he could make on me by ordering multiple and redundant exams, CT scan , then CT scan with contrast , Cystoscopy and applying mental pressure by suggesting it could be a cancer so I should do it. Frightening patients and using their fear of sickness to push on medical orders and unnecessary medical costs is almost unethical. I recommend to have second opinion and will never consult again with him read more

Hey Bernadette you are right on! This guy is a real piece of work. He is intimidating, rude, does not listen, doesn't seem to care about or want to hear about what brought you to his office. He seems to have great disdain for both women and Californians and made comments such as "you women" and "you Caifornians" when assessing my situation. Ordinarily I can handle myself when being treated in a less than respectful manner, but this guys behavior was so shocking I just sat there with my mouth hanging open. Only good thing about this visit was his suggestion to cut down on caffeine has improved my problem. Good advice dished out in a less than professional manner. Not only will I avoid this guy, I will advise all others to avoid him and put a bug in my doctors ear about what a jerk he is. read more

If you would have suggested to me 4 months ago that I'd be writing a review on a urologist I would have told you that you must have the wrong guy. This was before my GP (Barry Hansen) felt a little something suspicious during my annual physical. He referred me to Dr. Aigen, and thus the catalyst for this review. Dr. Aigen's bedside manner has been completely appropriate and appreciated through every stage of my treatment. He was very methodical in his diagnosis; suggesting a biopsy (based on family history) after the physical exam and inspite of a PSA level well within normal ranges. The biopsy revealed prostate cancer, and he was kind enough to accomodate my request to call me with the news since I was working out of town the week the results came back (he had said that he preferred having conversations like that face-to-face.) I came in for a follow up the next week and he walked me through the type of cancer that I had, how agressive it appeared to be based on the biopsy, and ALL of my options. He didn't try to sell me on one particular route, but after weighing the options I chose the radical prostatectomy using the robotic, arthroscopic approach. He met with me the morning of the surgey and assured me that we were in this together, and to lighten the moment, told me that he'd be "taking his time." Surgery went well and he met with my family and friends in the waiting room afterwards to put them at ease. At almost 90 days out I had my first post op blood work and the results could not have come back better. The good doctor and I had a chance to celebrate his good work and my good fortune this last Tuesday. Recovery has had its challenges but I couldn't be happier with my progress. Not due back for another 6 months! My experience has been nothing short of amazing, and I would not hesitate for a second to recommend Dr. Aigen to anyone in need of his services. Having lost a brother to the same disease I want to emphasize the benefits of early detection and treatment. read more

I first met Dr. Aigen after receiving an elevated PSA screening result. He performed a prostate examination and a biopsy and thankfully no cancer was found. However, Dr. Aigen advised me I had an enlarged prostate and that it could become problematic ... I was thankful for his kind and straightforward manner. Sure enough, about a year later I suffered a fall and broke a joint badly, which required repair surgery under general anesthesia. The surgery was successful, but I after I woke up, I discovered I was not able to pee anymore - I had acute urinary retention - my prostate was blocking the path. Dr. Aigen and his staff took care of me through the painstaking catheter-on - catheter-off - trial process for 5 weeks. They were kind, understanding, positive and always reassuring. Unfortunately, in the end this process did not work out and Dr. Aigen recommended a TURP. His staff made all the arrangements and asked all my questions. Surgery went without a hitch and I went home peeing again! Sadly, I did not fully grasped how important the Dr's advice to REST and NOT STRAIN was ... so of course I developed clots on week 2 post surgery, which blocked by urinary function AGAIN. Dr. Aigen was right there with me in the ER at 3 AM evaluating the problem (never scolding me!), attempting a vigorous saline flush, reminding the nurses to replenish the saline bags when they should, and quickly deciding that this wasn't enough and scheduling me for emergency surgery to clean-up the mess inside right there and then. Surgery went fine, and now, four weeks later (after dutifully following instructions to the T this time), I am happy to report I feel great! All issues are gone and everything functions as it should (and as it did when I was in my 20's!) I actually will miss going to my appointments. That is how good it felt! A big thanks to Dr. Aigen and his staff. read more

Dr. Aigen was one of the most perfunctory physicians it has been my misfortune to encounter. He was late, clearly uninterested in my case and responded to messages with near-monosyllabic, uninformative responses. Stay away unless you fall into his area of specialization, whatever that might be. read more

I saw Dr. Aigen for the first time in early May. I was having bladder issues and I am only 36 years old. I was nervous because I didn't know what he would suggest. I had seen another urologist 5 years before who suggested surgery but I decided to wait. I'm glad I did because at the time they were using the mesh that has since had several problems. Dr. Aigen explained that I would have to have a surgery to fix my problem. He explained exactly what he would do and gave me the name of the sling so I was able to research it first. I just had the surgery yesterday and 24 hours later I am feeling great. I opted not to have any narcotics during and after surgery so I had a spinal block and I was put to sleep under general anesthesia . I am taking Toradol which is a stronger form of Motrin but and not a narcotic. I am having very little pain. I am very happy with Dr. Aigen. He came in with with a positive attitude and a bit of humor which made for a more relaxed visit. I would highly recommend him and he is now my urologist for good. Thanks! read more

Dr. Aigen was great. I arrived for a consultation on April 10, 2014. His staff was courteous and kind. I saw Dr. Aigen and he was professional, understanding and he explained the vasectomy procedure. We even had a few laughs. The day of the procedure April 15,2014, I was greeted by the staff and they were nice. Dr. Aigen entered the private room and greeted me by name. He let my girlfriend stay in the room to comfort me. Dr. Aigen explained step by step and answered my questions during the procedure. He made me feel comfortable and I would recommend him to anyone I know that is in need for a vasectomy. Present day: two days later and I am up and about. The swelling is down and I am walking around. read more

I found Dr. Arnold B. Aigen to be an excellent urologist and surgeon. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and he removed my prostate with laparoscopic surgery, preserving the nerves so that I still had sexual function and enjoyment of sex. Dr. Aigen saved my life, as prostate cancer runs very strongly on my father's side of the family and has killed several of my male relatives. Dr. Aigen is also a good sex counselor. With his treatment, I now have a healthier sex life with my wife than most 58-year-olds married 18 years. I think he must be one of the best urologists for men that you could find anywhere, as well as being very likable and a great guy. read more

I first met Dr. Aigen when I had kidney stones. I was unable to pass them, and had a procedure to remove them with a laser. Later, when I developed BPH, I consulted with him again, and he initially prescribed medication which helped, but over time was less effective. He first suggested a Urolift, procedure, which can be done in an office visit, but I was not a good candidate for the procedure, so we scheduled a TURP. I am now a week post surgery, and am extremely happy with the results. I had very little, almost zero post op pain, and within a day was seeing the positive effects of the procedure. Throughout, Dr. Aigen has been engaged and caring, listening to my questions and concerns, and letting me know what to expect. I appreciate that he started with the least aggressive treatment options before considering surgery. I highly recommend both Dr. Aigen and the TURP procedure. read more

I was very fortunate to meet Dr Aigen. I had developed a verticulum (xtra little bladder) that was causing urinating problems. The doc was very patient in explaining the options and discussed the surgery in detail. He performed the surgery and thanks to his surgical talent, experience and expertise all went well. He is very caring and compassionate doctor. He ensured that I remained in the hospital until all was clear and I was ready to leave. No pressure and no rush. He visited a few times and ensured with the nurses that all was going well. I truly feel lucky that he took care of my medical issue. Overall not only is he a true professional but a great compassionate human being. I wish him the best and hopes that he enjoys his golf game. Thank you read more

I highly recommend Dr. Aigen as an urologist and a surgeon. I'd been having issues with which he was able to help me with medication, until it came to the time that surgery was required. He preformed the procedure on me while I was under general anesthesia. When I awoke he was there to explain all the details that I would need going forward to both my wife and myself. I've been seeing Dr. Aigen for about 7 years and I'll continue to stay under his care well into the future. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Aigen, 3 months ago he performed Urolift surgery and I can't be happier. Dr.Aigen recommended the surgery and I am very thankful for his recommendation. The recovery took a week, it wasn't the best week in my life but Dr. Aigen did some tests to be sure there are no infections or anything, everything was normal, just me being me. read more

I'm feeling grateful that my internist recommended Dr. Aigen. I was brought into the waiting room pretty much as soon as I arrived at the desk, filled out a few forms, and the doctor came to see me at the stroke of my appointment. His attitude was warm, helpful, and personal. This made it a lot easier to discuss a medical problem that would otherwise have been challenging to talk about. He showed a deep understanding of his specialty without any need to show off or lapse into technical jargon. I would definitely recommend him to anyone in need of his services. read more

I would like to give Dr. Aigen five stars for the five cystoscopies he has performed...Not one star for each cystoscopy but a total of five stars for his bedside manner. It was necessary for him to perform a couple of surgeries on my husband, for which both of us were quite anxious. Dr. Aigen's compassionate efforts helped us get through a difficult time. He was able to find commonalities between him and ourselves, and makes each subsequent, uncomfortable test easily tolerated. We look forward to the clean bill of health that he passes along to us after each visit. No, we do not look forward to the tests, but we are happy to have Dr. Aigen perform the test and receive the good news we always walk out with. read more

As long as "we California women" stop carrying around our water bottles, we should not have a problem. Dr. Aigen does not make the mark on his listening skills, but rather races ahead making assumptions about ones symptoms. I felt as though I should somehow adapt my symptoms to suit his findings. Dr. Aigen has no problem raising his voice in disagreement. My appointment ended rather abruptly when a staff person notified Dr. Aigen he had a phone call. Rather than excuse himself, Dr. Aigen determined our appointment complete....in his own mind. Final unforgivable moment...when leaving to take his phone call, with the door wide open, Dr. Aigen very loudly stated "It's your vagina, not your bladder. " SO MUCH FOR PATIENT RESPECT AND PRIVACY. read more

Dr. Aigen was the physician on call when I called with an urgent question on behalf of a patient in his practice who had had surgery the day before. As several other reviewers here have indicated with their rating of one-star, Dr. Aigen was abrasive and downright rude. He may get away with this behavior when dealing directly with patients, many of whom are elderly, and many of whom are women. However, I am a young Ph.D. scientist and on behalf of all patients who might be steered in his direction, I am writing this review as a warning: Stay Away! You can do better and you deserve better. read more

I would strongly advise against seeing Dr. Aigen. I went in for a vasectomy, and ended up needing surgery to relieve the blood build up. I spent 2 weeks in excruciating pain after the initial procedure. I kept in contact with the doctor, and he repeatedly was dismissive about the pain, and the amount of swelling (non-normal, blood filled). Vicodin wasn't cutting the pain. Immediately post surgery for the complication, the pain was substantially less - that's after major surgery. Now let's assume that for argument's sake the above complication was just a fluke. He's dismissive to the point of not recognizing a complication. Even during the initial consult he didn't discuss much with me. I should have walked after the initial discussion given his manner. He did manage to do something right through all of this. The end result is as was desired. read more

Great Doctor, very knowledgeable. pinpointed my issues in two visit, quick surgery, fixed. I was lucky to have him as my doctor. I would highly recommend Dr. Aigen for any Urology matters. read more

It's my second time around with a kidney stone and the 1st time being treated my Dr. Aigen. I was examined by him and "sat" the best I could in his office for well over a half hour, reviewing my films and finding out the different treatment options. I'm a nursing mother, he listen to my concerns, and immediately got on the phone with the anesthesiologist to see what the side effects of going under would be and when I could nurse again. He knew I was having a hard time making a decision, and asked me to think out loud so he could help me process. I had lots of fears from the last time I went through this. He was able to get me into surgery that evening, adding me on as his last case. He went over everything with me and my husband. I'm feeling so much BETTER! He is an awesome doctor with a great bedside manner. His assistant Lauren returned my calls quickly and was super reassuring. read more

After researching several doctors for my TURP, I chose Dr. Aigen. The choice was easy due to his experience, the fact that he is part of Palo Alto Medical Foundation and that he performs his procedures at El Camino hospital. After feeling strong urges to whiz every hour or so and struggling to whiz for the past several years, I had finally had enough. I had the procedure and wow, what a difference... no more painful urges and man can I go! Dr. Aigen was pleasant, easy to work with and very competent.. My overnight stay at El Camino Hospital was five star owing to attentive staff and nice accommodations. Thank you all! read more

I am shocked at the negative reviews regarding Dr. Aigen. He performed a bladder repair for me several years ago. I found him to be caring, listened well, was concerned that all of my questions were answered. The surgery he performed went extremely well, which was the most important thing. I have had no problems since. And I have recommended him consistently to friends. read more

Dr. Aigen treated me for prostate cancer in Spring 2018, and performed a highly-successful robotic laparoscopic radical prostatectomy at El Camino Hospital in May 2018. From the moment my primary care physician referred me to Dr. Aigen, I felt I was in good hands with a highly-experienced urologist and surgeon. He requested a series of scans, tests, and ultimately a prostate biopsy to confirm the diagnosis and staging, and he explained each step taking care to be direct while not underplaying or overplaying the situation unnecessarily. At 47 years old, a cancer diagnosis was the last thing I was expecting, an I am very glad I had Dr. Aigen to help me and my husband through the process. After all of this, my outlook is very good, and I can't recommend Dr. Aigen highly enough. His expertise, warmth, and excellent communication throughout the process made a huge difference. read more

Avoid this doctor by all means. Please stay away. If you get refer to see him for any kidney stone related issue. Please switch doctor.

I had 2 visits and both the cases I had to consult another urologists / internal medicine with questions. Though he didnot make any bad decision. Definitely is challenged with Listening . I completely agree with Bernadette. I will avoid him as much as possible. read more

What a great bedside and caring manner he has. Dr. Aigen actually made kidney stone removal surgery a painless experience. He also took care of my husband right away, rather than prolonging the pain he was feeling. I would wholeheartedly recommend him - if you need a Urologist you can't do better. read more

Aloha and shame on the two ladies who gave Dr. Aigen poor reviews and used vulgar language, etc. However, since your reviews are outdated I will give you my heartfelt thank you to Dr. Aigen. My 80 yr. old father was seen by Dr. Aigen who graciously squeezed us in because my father lives with me 3 hours away but is loyal to PAMC because of the excellent quality of care this facility possesses. Dr. Aigen has the best bedside manners in making any patient feel relaxed and comfortable in a very private situation for any person. We are talking about prostate and urology here people. He asked my father (I was in the room) specific questions, he called for tests, he was sensitive to our travels, he was very clear in the event there were any other problems after office hours to go to ER immediately. At one point he decided to again make time to do a procedure to further investigate the situation with my father. He allowed me in the surgical room behind the curtain and spoke thru the entire procedure and let me know what he was doing with my father. There were no secrets! I could hear everything. After further diagnosis he recommended surgery and that went very well. After the surgery he made hospital visit promptly and followup was excellent. He followed up on my emails and on a Sunday evening he read my fathers urine results and called me at home to tell me my father had an infection and he was ordering antibiotics. As for the top part of the window in the office on the 3rd floor? I loved it. The lower half of the exam rooms were cloudy and no one could see so as far as the comment about seeing your buttocks...that is false unless of course you were standing on the exam table...for the love! Let's talk about Tiffany his assistant and the rest of the crew in the office....absolutely awesome! Very sensitive, caring and listened when I said I was calling long distance, etc....they immediately communicated with Dr. Aigen and gave us clear instructions immediately. Dr Aigen deserves a lot more respect from these two other reviews I read. Dr Aigen listened very well and heard every concern I had ......and he answered them and gave us clear instructions. I would choose Dr. Aigen to do my surgery if needed any day!!! At least you are treated with respect and made to feel like you will live!!! read more

How do you not give 5 stars to a man who saved your life? My experience with Dr Aigen was excellent. I was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer in 2005 and referred to Dr. Aigen by my physician. Even though he's a surgeon he went over all possible treatments carefully and didn't push surgery as my only option. He was very complete on my biopsy and follow up. I was impressed with his knowledge and experience in prostate surgery. After one other second opinion, I didn't feel I had to "shop" anymore. The surgery went well and the recovery, though challenging, went very well. I realize with all cancers there's an element of luck, but obviously I'm still alive, in good health, not incontinent, so I definitely give a nod to Dr Aigen's surgical skills--highly recommended. read more

The first time I visited this doctor I felt like i visited on a bad day because doctor Aigen acted very irritated by the fact that I was asking questions,. Fast forward five years and nothing has changed. I immediately got a bad feeling again as soon as I started to ask questions. Without answering my questions, he abruptly suggested that I do a quick cystoscopy procedure before I leave. I was hesitant, but I agreed. Big mistake! Not only did he place previously used (partially wet from wiping off lubricant from the previous procedure) towels on me, but he didn't bother to wait more than 30 seconds for the local anesthesia to work before jamming (yes!, jamming) the scope into my urethra and causing me a great deal of pain. I suspect that this was his revenge for having the nerve to ask him questions after he recommended medication that I was already taking (which he would have known if he had bothered to read the paperwork that I completed before seeing him.) read more

Dr. Aigen was compassionate, patient and knowledgeable. As soon as I met him I felt comfortable and assured that I was in good hands. He took his time explaining test results and what surgery would come next. Given the length of time I had experienced pain due to an incorrect diagnosis (by other physicians), he attempted to schedule my surgery asap. After the surgery I had pain and called in to his office with questions. He called me back himself and was again patient and took his time to listen to what I was experiencing. I would recommend Dr. Aigen to anyone in need of a urologist. read more

wow! these bad reviews don't make sense to me. Dr. Aigen performed my vasectomy. at the pre-visit he took the time to answer all of my questions, pointed out more information on a pamphlet they gave me there, and told me not to hesitate to call the office if i had anymore questions. he was pleasant to talk with and had a sense of humor as well. the procedure itself was brief and he was very professional. done deal. i would recommend him to anyone. read more

5 stars all the way. I can't thank Dr. Aigen for the kindness and compassion he showed me through a very uncertain time.. I went into my first appointment a nervous wreck and walked out with the confidence that I was in good hands and never lost that feeling. Both my husband and I appreciated Dr. Aigens' positive bedside manner and willingness to spend as much time with us as we needed to feel comfortable. He is professional and direct but at the same time, kind and reassuring. The "hunch" that Dr. Aigen had on my condition in our initial meeting actually was my final diagnosis. I have nothing but positive feedback on my experience read more

Doctor Aigen was fantastic. I consulted with him and he gave me 3 options and I went with the procedure. he even gave me time to think about it.. there was no pressure. we could have monitored it for a few more months to years, but I went done and over with. I had partial nephrectomy using a robot due to a tumor found on my left kidney that grew after monitoring it for 5 years, and I was back to work exactly 7 days after (some discomfort but manageable). I am not going to lie, waking up after the procedure was painful but as soon as I woke up and given meds it was manageable. they key is to start walking around right away to get everything back in place and after that, the pain went!! When the doctor tells you to start walking, you got to do it.. it helps with the pain. Recovery was fast for me. just 4 small holes for the robot and almost no scars after. glad to find out it was not cancer. love the humor as well!! very caring! thanks DOC! read more

I see he got some bad reviews, but my experience with him was completely positive. I asked him what he could do to help my BPH symptoms, and he examined me by ultrasound and by a scope. He said that my prostate was somewhat enlarged, typical for my age (50's), and that this was likely the cause of my symptoms. He recommended the "green light laser" TURP surgery, saying I was an ideal candidate for that. He was very kind in answering my plethora of questions every time I saw him, and on the day of the surgery, he was very kind to my wife and I. Surgery went very well. Less than two days post-op, I had almost no pain (a 1 or 2 on a scale of 10), and just a little bit of blood during elimination as he said there would be. Best of all, my BPH symptoms are all gone, and my eliminations are quick and complete now--like a fire hose! Thank you doctor! I'd recommend for any man over 50 to get this procedure. I saw nothing wrong with Dr. Aigen--in his manners, professionalism, competency, and friendliness. I'll go see him again if I have any other urology issues. read more
