    Scotch egg and salad £4.95
    Matthew T.

Eggscellent scotch eggs. The queue can get long but they move so quickly. 25p surcharge on cards but each menu option is cheap. Only £4.95 for the eggs with salad and around £8 for the eggs, salad, and sweet potato fries. The fried crispy breeding with the juicy pork surrounding a well cooked runny egg is delicious. Definitely would come back again next time I'm at Borough Market.

Spent a week in London and the Scotch Egg with salad and sweet potato fries was the best meal I had the entire trip. The sausage coating was flavorful and had the right amount of crunch to it. Egg was done perfect. Not too hard cooked. Fries were also done so the outside was crisp and the inside was tender. It was a great lunch for £8.

Dont get the dressing for the salad, it's vinegary and ruins the Scottish egg.

I love Scottish eggs! But... scotchtails really disappointed. The egg comes with salad and they ask if you want dressing. The dressing was very vinegary and did not compliment the egg. The egg and meat itself was just lacked flavor and the yolk was not as runny as I was hoping. They have them premade already so it wasnt hot or crispy. Looks way better than it tastes =(

I was in the Borough Market and looking to taste some classic bites. A scotch egg fit the bill nicely. Got the traditional pork sausage scotch egg. The deal here is the sausage is molded around the egg, lightly coated and deep fried. The result is a fried sausage ball with an egg inside. My concern with this particular scotch egg was the egg and sausage seemed to be lacking flavor and texture. Egg was essentially hard boiled inside the sausage. Not sure how they got the egg yolk in there. I know this isn't the style, but I think it'd be better if the egg yolk was still gooey and runny. Sausage was on the dry side, slightly rubbery, overcooked perhaps. The coating absorbed a lot of oil, so there is a noticeable oil flavor. I also think the scotch egg was sitting around for a little bit, and as such the colder temperature detracted from the flavor. The optional fresh ground black pepper is a nice nuance. The greens are a nice touch, if unremarkable. Despite my criticisms, the egg and sausage flavor is satisfactory. Furthermore, this is an interesting bite and worth a try.

King's Cross station - Chicken and Chorizo scotch egg

Sorry; I'm being a lazy Yelper. I went to the Scotchtails booth at the newer King's Cross station market, not the Borough Market location. It's difficult for me to find a Scotch egg that I can eat, since I'm not a pork or beef eater. As I always say, I do lub me food inside of other food. So sadly, when Scotch eggs show up on a menu, it's almost guaranteed I can't eat it. Which means that Scotchtails made my day. They offer a vegetarian one with a sweet potato exterior! The flavors and textures were marvelous and the egg yolk color should become the new crayon color! So vibrant! If only the Chicken and Chorizo didn't have chorizo, I would have been all over it like white on rice. There's also other delicious food-inside-food options too! Do check them out!

Being a complete and utter tourist, I knew I had to try scotch eggs at some point on my trip in the UK. Fortunately, Scotchtails, being a very popular scotch egg vendor, was at Borough Market. I split the black pudding scotch egg with my boyfriend and it was huge and delicious. The seasoning was perfect and the egg yolk was not over cooked. Super flavorful with a great layer of fried crunch. Definitely easy to split between two people and worth the try.

Never had scotch eggs before, but in my humble opinion the ones I tried here were EGGcellent! (ba dum tss)

Scotch tails is one of the smaller stands of Borough Market. They have two types of scotch eggs, one being original, and the other is usually different everyday. I got a scotch egg with caramelized onions. It was mediocre, but quite expensive. The egg without fries was £4. It came on a tiny bed of salad. The egg was pretty good with a runny yolk, and the meat was juicy and flavorful. This is a good place to try a scotch egg, but it's too expensive for a simple scotch egg.

I had tried most of the traders before, and I have weirdly been craving fish and chips for awhile, so I headed over to Saltwood to give them a try. On offer were fish and chips (£6.50), calamari and chips (£5), Pescado Fritto (£8). I was sorely tempted by the Pescado Fritto (mixed fish fried in polenta), but I didn't have enough to add the chips, so I opted for good old fish and chips. I'm really glad I did. The fish was perfectly cooked. It flaked where it was supposed to flake, and the beer batter was insanely crispy and delicious. And the chips? Triple cooked, so they were slightly crispy on the outside, but deliciously fluffy and soft in the middle. The mushy peas were more of a pea puree, but given the state of the fish and chips, I didn't care. Also the homemade tartar sauce was some of the best I've had. I've had fish and chips at different places around the UK. Most of the time, fish and chips in London just can't compare to the seaside. But Saltwood have it down. This is probably the best fish and chips I've eaten in London so far. I will definitely have it again. I'd love to try the Pescado Fritto, but with the fish and chips being that good, it will be hard to break the chain. Unless I can find someone to go with me to share...

The friendly bloke who runs this stand apparently operates a few other ones around London including the halloumi and mezze stand on the end of Leather Lane Market. Whilst chatting with him as my wrap was being prepared, I discovered that Victus & Bibo used to be a juice and coffee stand in the mornings and a food prep area for other stands. Currently, they're sorting the inside of this stand to eventually be a breakfast stop for coffees, juices, and porridge, as well as continuing to serve lunch. In fact, rumour has it they've netted a World Barista Champion to serve up the java! As far as the actual grub goes, I was merrily satisfied with my 'lamb bread': ground meat, veg, sauces, with grilled halloumi for one quid extra. It's quite the affordably filling lunch at £4.50 that won't leave you feeling like you just consumed a gut bomb (I'm looking at you, Chilango).

When we visited they only had one option, the amazing halloumi salad (you could choose salad with spicy chicken+ halloumi...or just with halloumi.) As there was only one option, the line moved forward pretty quickly as the two ladies behind the counter quickly threw together amazing salads for all the hungry folks in the queue. I loved it. The salad itself is tasty, the humus is gorgeous, they give you a good splash of yogurt, and both the halloumi and the chicken were perfect.

I'd really wanted samphire and tartar sauce but he'd run out of samphire. The burgers were excellent, despite being fried in batter, they still had a great crab flavour and it went well with the wasabi mayo (can't comment on the other one, my dad all but inhaled it). Coincidentally, we ended up there on Sunday, and I ended up going again, but he still didn't have samphire... It was a popular combination! And each time I was turning up around 3/4pm, well into the day. So I tried the pomegranate combination, which again was fantastic. The following Friday, I ended up at Rupert Street market for lunch with colleagues, and guess who was there? Crabbieshack! Did he have Samphire and Tartar sauce? yes to the first but no to the second! I still ended up with a burger though... 4 crabs in 3 meetings. But the following week, Douglas kept some aside for me and I finally got what I craved. Worth the wait? You better believe it! He's not always at Rupert Street Market, but can be found at Kerb at various locations (check their website). I voted for him at the British Street Food awards and he's just won the London heat! Don't actually know how many crabs I've eaten from him now... just that I will probably be eating from there again the next time I see the stand!

It had about 5 or 6 stalls and immediately I spotted crab. It's hard to find good a good fish sometimes but I love food that is quite unique so the crab burger was on that I had to get. A normal crab burger on its own was £7.50. But pricey but a double was £11 so I thought what the hey and leave the fries and just double up. A crab deep fried in battle. The chilli coriander and wasabi Mayo defo gives it an edges I I could go for this sauce. It was very good. Very messy though. Can't help feel some street food vendors should show a bit more value with a side added for free or a more reasonable price. Seeing as I've been to all over America I know you could get this and fries for about £10 at most. Expensive lunch. It was near the city workers so might be a target but it was very good. I'd love to try their crab salad for £7 and see how much meat you get with that.
