Everything was good. Just wish it wasn't expensive. I got an unsweetened matcha, and it was really good.

Opened this summer, Mr. Taco is Texas City's newest Mexican eatery. It's located about a block away…read morefrom the fairly busy Palmer Highway, which makes it a little hard to spot. But once you arrive, you're in for a real culinary trip south of the border. I dropped in very eager to try one of their taco plates. While the pictures on the restaurant's Facebook page had already piqued my appetite, I wanted to see for myself if they were the real deal. So, for my first meal here, I ordered the Pastor Street Tacos. Like at any good Mexican restaurant, my meal began with chips and salsa. It's an unwritten rule of mine that if the complimentary chips and salsa are good, the main dishes will be just as good, if not better. Fortunately, that rule holds true for Mr. Taco. I tried both the red and green salsas, which were truly spicy--a definite plus in my book. The tacos arrived after a few minutes. While the menu said they were miniature--there were four in total--they were a perfect portion. Anchored by marinated pork and topped with fresh onions and cilantro on corn tortillas, the tacos were accompanied by a bean-filled consomme and rice. With just one bite, I imagined myself on the streets of Guadalajara or Monterey; the authenticity was simply evident. I occasionally dipped the tacos in the consomme, which I could describe as a bit earthy and salty. Overall, the meal was incredibly enjoyable. This dish is a prime candidate for a go-to order on a return visit. I was very well taken care of by our waiter, Samuel. The meal's spiciness had me quickly finishing my water, but he kept the glasses coming without me having to ask. While working on the meal, I was parked in front of one of the business's massive TVs, which were tuned to the Astros game. That said, I consider Mr. Taco an ideal place to catch a game. It helps that it's open until 10 p.m.--or 2 a.m. on the weekends--though a staff member told me that's assuming they're not having a slow night. Price-wise, I'd say the costs are quite fair. My platter was about $13, which would be roughly three dollars more elsewhere.

We had queso, birria tacos, and carnitas - all of the food was fresh and had great flavor. The ambience itself is great - and would make a great happy hour or dinner spot! Been a long time customer of the Texas City location near my house. Found myself in the Webster…read morearea for work, and figured I'd give this location a shot. Sub was good, not as great as the Texas city location, but still a quality sub. The issue was the service. Never have I ever experienced such rudeness from staff. Walking in (again, for the first time) I am greeted with a "what do you want" yell. I thought he was joking or messing around at first, but no, dude was serious. I give my order and try to pay. Another yell from him "you pay after you eat" ok, that works, too. All the while, the two other guys on duty are groaning about not having enough time to prepare for the day, complaining about customers on Saturdays, and more. I'm all for hole in the wall, simple no frills dining, but this place had an overall terrible, terrible vibe. I finish eating and go to pay. Guy barks orders at me on how to tap my card. I try different attempts, finally the card reader shows an error. Dude yells at me "LISTEN, OR THAT WILL HAPPEN". Turns out, his WiFi network wasn't on the whole time. Upon discovering this, in his defense he did apologize - but cmon dude. Shouldn't ever treat a customer like that. I slide my card and it works first try, after he turned the WiFi network on. I bumped my tip down from 22% to 18% and walked out. As I exit, I hear grumbles of complaints coming from the dude. Serious disappointment here. Never returning. I hate for one location to taint the other, but I can't say this makes me want to revisit my beloved Texas city location by my house any more, either.

Anyhow, we walked in and were warmly greeted by the guys behind the counter. You can dine in or carry out, we dined in. I told them it was our first time there and he recommended my husband or I get the Italian sub. I had already decided that was the one I was going to get before entering anyways so that's what I went with & my husband got the cheese steak. After ordering we picked out drinks out of the cooler and a bag of chips to split. They offer Snapple, Gatorade, water, and a variety of sodas. Our sandwiches were delivered to our table within about 2-3 minutes of ordering. They were so good, I didn't think to take pictures but would highly recommend both. The entire vibe in the store feels like you're at a family members house. If you enjoy a good sub or sandwich give this place a shot, they are affordable and welcoming but most importantly delicious!

They were hopping on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch! It's homestyle diner food meets Luby's. They have daily specials and the daily menu on a chalkboard on the wall. It's cafeteria-style service and the board with the options is located right at the buffet line. They had several hot options as well as sandwiches and other choices. THE FOOD WAS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! I had a club sandwich on perfectly toasted bread with a side of fries. The fries were really good. Crisp on the outside and perfectly soft inside. My boyfriend had the chicken fried steak with brown gravy (brown or white gravy were the options), mashed potatoes, cornbread, and macaroni & cheese. Had a bite of everything on his plate and it just screamed "Grandma Southern Kitchen"-that's how good it was. Fantastic diner/comfort food. Service was exceptional. Folks went out of their way for customers. Tip: they take cards but prefer cash. Can't wait to be in the area again to swing by. Ah, heck who am I kidding? I wouldn't be surprised if we find ourselves making the trip just to eat there again.
