I went in to get an ice cream scoop, but I only had a $50 bill on me. When I went to pay, the clerk told me they don't accept anything over $20. I told him that is all I had as I did not bring my wallet. He suggested going across the street to the liquor store and getting change when the manager and or owner said nope just take it. It's on me. I said no, I need to pay you. I'm going down the street shopping and I'll break the $50 bill and come back and pay you. She looked at me in the eye and said if you never come back and don't pay it's fine. It's on me today. I returned to the store just now and she left her shift. I found out her schedule and will return not only with the six dollars, plus a generous tip. Support this small town business. They are awesome at their ice cream. is fantastic. read more

Love the unique ice cream flavors served here alongside the classics. I tried a chocolate brownie flavor and a scoop of mint chip, while my boyfriend opted for honeycomb and a coffee flavor in a waffle cone. Everything we tasted was delicious. I've seen them advertise a sweet corn flavor at one point and I'm hoping that one day it will be back on the menu so I can try it next! Super cute vibe within the store and the staff are quick and friendly with getting everyone the combos they're wanting. read more

My cousin was raving about the crepes here and she wasn't wrong! First of all they're freshly made and perfectly packed with the right amount of filling. We had the brown butter crepes which were so buttery (almost too much) but the crepes were so well done we couldn't stop ourselves. Would definitely visit again and recommend! read more

Love, love, love! Who doesn't love ice cream? They have some really fun and classic choices as well. The shop is very clean and the staff at the front is incredibly friendly. Obviously had to treat my dog to a sweet treat as well and she absolutely loved it. I highly recommend coming through to this location on a hot or cold day! read more

I was in the mood for ice cream after dinner at La Dona. The other place had a line, but I remembered Scoops from walking around last time and thought I'd give it a try. It's on the strip so lots of walking traffic. They have some tables outside which is nice. Inside smells so good! Looking at the menu, the passion fruit sorbet caught my eye. I also thought the brown sugar? butter? cookie dough? brownie? looked interesting...and it sure was good! Since it was Cako's birthday, I got her some peanut butter ice cream with a little whipped cream...she really liked this! Definitely worth stopping into if you're in the neighborhood. Excellent friendly service! My first time here, just passing by and noticed Pistachio flavor on their sign -but they sold out and she didn't mind me trying various flavors to pair with Earl Grey. It's always nice when the staff is welcoming. Check out her megawatt smile in my pic!! Inside is simple and clean, well decorated, and the bathroom was clean too which was a nice surprise in OB. Love Earl Grey and Honeycomb. Vanilla Bean was good but lacked flavor next to Earl Grey. If you like chocolate chip, try their black cherry chip! There's outdoor seating in front as well. Why did I knock off a star? There were a few ice pieces in mine and ice cream didn't feel smooth so there's obviously a problem somewhere, either in making or storing. read more

Ice cream was so so - has the brownie espresso. Was excited to try the toasted marshmallow on it but the tool was broken - discovered after I paid and marshmallow was on it. Being that I wouldn't have ordered it had I known wasn't too thrilled. Went with family from out of town and we all felt the same. It wasn't awful just not creamy nor very flavorful. read more

Solid place to get a nice cold, sweet treat while in the area. They had some interesting flavors on the menu board, and did allow for sampling when asked. The staff were real cool, and were great even though we were a larger group that came in. I really enjoyed the ice cream, and I'd say they gave appropriate sized scoops. The whole group had positive things to say about the ice cream. It was good and a nice treat to enjoy there or while walking around the very interesting neighborhood. read more

My friends and I wanted to get dessert after dinner and we wanted to try somewhere new. So we checked this place out. Best. Decision. Ever! If you haven't been here yet you need to go. I have heard that there is always a line out the door but when we got there it was empty so we got there at a great time!! Their ice cream is sooo delicious! I couldn't stop saying how good it was and that I couldn't wait to go back! I got one scoop and they are very generous with their scoops which is awesome!! I mean who doesn't love that!? lol They do run out of flavors fast and they do update the boards but they do have a lot of other amazing and delicious flavors still left to try and taste. The service is great! Everyone in there is absolutely amazing and nice! You are allowed to do samples of the ice cream. They are very generous with the samples. The line does move fast so don't worry you're never going to have to wait long. The shop is super cute! Love the vibe. They also have ice cream for your pets. Tried out the new ice cream spot on Newport--Scoops--and it totally hit the spot. They've got a bunch of fun flavors and a ton of topping choices. I went with chocolate and added peanut butter cups, and the best part? They actually mix the toppings in instead of just tossing them on top. It's the little things, you know? The place is dog-friendly too, which I love. They'll even snap a pic of your pup for their wall of fame and offer a little doggie scoop--so cute. You can choose from cake, waffle, or sugar cones, and there are a few outdoor tables if you want to hang out and enjoy. Definitely a sweet addition to OB! read more

Here's the Scoop! Ocean Beach is it's third ice cream shop open here, the first and second are in La Jolla. Street parking can be a challenge. Note: Wednesdays the farmers market is on Newport which is the same street this ice cream shop is on and some streets are blocked off, so parking is more of a challenge. While out and about in Ocean Beach, I stopped inside this newly opened ice cream shop. It is small but had limited outdoor and indoor seating, was bright clean and as I observed the staff of servers behind the counter, they wore new gloves before serving each customer, and this practice of cleanliness scores high in my book. The nice and cool server, Sam washed her hands and put on new gloves before serving me and she had a genuine positive attitude, and I made sure I said I appreciate and thanked her :) The menu also offers coffee drinks, açai bowls and crepes. It's my understanding that Scoops sources it's ice cream from Van Leeuwen ice cream, who makes hand crafted ice cream using simple and natural ingredients. The ice cream menu listed classic ice cream flavors as well as vegan flavors. The later is what appealed to me and chose the Oat strawberry shortcake and the Oat Chocolate Chip cookie dough in the smallest cup, both flavors were not too sweet and just so yummy! Even my pup Fendi liked it. Some of the Ice cream flavors are seasonal so new flavors are created and I would certainly agree with their moniker: 'Living the Sweet Life,' with Scoops ice cream. The ice cream is good but the customer service is awful. I tried a sample and they gave it to me on this little metal spoon. I held onto the spoon, bought my ice cream, and went to sit down inside to eat. I had planned on using the little spoon because it was so cute. When I went to sit, the worker told me I had to return the spoon. I said I definitely would. I was just going to sit down and eat and then return it. He would literally have seen me the whole time. He got hostile and said that I wasn't allowed to do that and acted like I was a thief trying to steal his precious spoon. Does it come out of his paycheck or something? Being treated like a criminal left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. I won't be returning. There are much better options for ice cream anyway: Lighthouse and Ann's. read more

They had a few dairy free options. I got cacao and vanilla. They were both pretty good. My son enjoyed his. Service was good. I think the girl suggested I get the vegan brownie instead but I didn't understand at the moment because I'm kind dumb I guess. Maybe that one is better. The place was clean but they had some dead potted plants which was kind of weird. read more

Stopped by Scoops in OB for some ice cream. The ice cream itself was good. I got the black cherry chip and enjoyed it. The staff was friendly and helpful, which was a plus. That said, the overall experience didn't feel especially memorable. The ambiance was a bit stale and very bright, and nothing really stood out as extraordinary. I remember I tried Scoops a long time ago at La Jolla Shores when I lived at there. This time I found their new location at Ocean Beach. I was in ice cream mood and went in for a small split scoop. There was one customer in front of me, but the staff was chatting with him and his dog for a while, so I waited for like 5 plus minutes. When it was my turn, there's another customer behind me, the staff was a little rush, I think it's not her fault because it was literally only herself in the store. I think she needs a helper. I tried a few flavors, and to be honestly, none of them really impressed me comparing to other gelato and ice cream shops. I don't think Scoops is the same like the previous time in my memory, it was so good, it's below my expectation this time. read more

We are never in OB, but I'm glad we were there early enough to pop into Scoops right before they closed. We might've rushed dinner to ensure we had time haha. The vegan flavors caught my eye, there were a lot to choose from which is nice. I ordered the vegan banana bread pudding and threw caution to the wind with a non dairy brown sugar cookie dough brownie. So creamy! The brownie bits were plentiful, but I think my scoop just didn't hit the right spot for cookie dough. The banana bread pudding scoop was delightful! It was such a good mix of tasting like banana bread with bread chunks to also tasting like banana pudding. I tried the blue jasmine passion fruit swirl and oh my goodness it was so good! I'm glad I know this is in OB for whenever I want to switch up my ice cream shop. read more

Checked out the newer scoops in OB! It's really hard to be disappointed by ice cream, but it's always an extra treat when the experience exceeds expectations. The staff were super friendly! They have a flavor for everyone... which took me a while to make a solid decision. Ultimately, I went with their coffee based I flavor. Very delish! First off, love this new location! I'm also a big fan of their La Jolla locations. Right off the bat, the staff is super friendly & welcoming. All of their recommendations were so good. I think my favorite thing about Scoops is that they have so many options to choose from, & tons of vegan ones at that! If I could stomach it, I would've gotten the strawberry, honeycomb & mango. But I went with the honeycomb flavor. Sooooo good, I'm still thinking about it. 10/10 def will be coming back read more

After having shawarma, there's an ice cream shop nearby. I randomly picked two flavors, coriander and pistachio, and they were surprisingly delicious! The shop is always crowded with customers, and sometimes there's a long queue. The prices are also very reasonable. Two scoops of two flavors cost 6.76. It's really suitable for one or two people to enjoy. read more

We are very happy to have Scoops in OB! We enjoyed some delicious real ice cream (not the vegan stuff) - the pistachio and the chocolate were exceptional. They were perfectly rich, creamy and full of flavor -- Very high quality ice cream made by Van Leeuwen of Brooklyn. The staff is very friendly and helpful, great variety of flavors and cones. It's a very clean store that has not been ruined by homeless yet. Prices start at $6 for a single. And they make delicious crepes and fresh waffle cones! read more

Less than one star, cashier said i had to pay for something to use the restroom when I saw 4 other patrons use the restroom without paying. What a frustrating experience, so glad others can benefit from me paying $5 to use a bathroom...Ice cream was meh wouldn't recommend. read more

At this point, I'm sick of it and I just want to leave and not cause a scene over an order of stupid crepes, which is btw, almost $40 (!!) with tip and tax. Totally unacceptable.

Additionally, the workers need some slight education in food allergens, and the difference between peanuts, and tree nuts. If I didn't know any better I would've walked out disappointed in not being able to eat here because the worker was not understanding my ask but instead making me fearful of cross contamination, which I am well aware of but it can be prevented by a quick wipe down, and clean utensils to cook with??? The service was also was a bit rushed and disorganized. We got a tres leches coffee and honey lavender latter. There were some cute desserts so we definitely had to try one, but at $13 + tax ouch. The honey lavender was good, but tres leches was not sweet, but it actually worked out because the dessert was super duper sweet. So if you have a sweet tooth this place is for you. Not for me. Will not return but good to try once if you are on the island.
