Not a bad thing, just how it was. Stopped into the Plainville location yesterday because I was there and it was there. Have not been a big fan of expansion as in the New Haven pizza world, quality and consistency has suffered. That was my fear with Mozzicatto. However, as they are one of the few who make a ricotta pasticiotti, so I go. I bought 3 of the ricotta and a ricotta square (noticing a pattern here?) which were delicious and were as good as they were 25 years ago. They were fresh, form and the filling was delicately sweet. While I can't speak for all the desserts, they still seem to know what they are doing. It's not easy maintaining this type of specialty business as the market of patrons and tastes is a bit different. IMO, they remain a gem and I am thankful the kids have endeavored to stay true to what brought them success. It is pricy compared to the crap you can buy at the supermarket/Costco? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. I will not pass Mozzicato's without stopping. You shouldn't either. Salute!

The cake looked great, though it did seem a bit stale, but of course it's always fun to see what's on display in the cases (those Easter lambs are adorable ). "My grandma and your grandma Were sittin' by the fire…read moreMy grandma told your grandma "I'm gonna set your flag on fire" (Dr. John) Abuela, Bubbe, Grand-mère, Oma, Avó, Obā-chan, Nǎi Nai, or Ammamma are terms of endearment to say "Grandma" around the globe. In Italy, the word is "Nonnie" which just happens to be the name of an amazing Italian bakery we visited today. To be honest, calling Nonni's a "bakery" really shortchanges Grandma, because it is SO much more than that. Yes, of course they sell an incredible variety of beautifully crafted cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and cannolis, but you can also buy breakfast sandwiches, pizza, stromboli, arancino, stuffed breads, grinders, chicken cutlets and more. Their store is awesome, and you'll find yourself staring at their showcases and refrigerated cases. Service is top notch, with plenty of helpful and smiling folks helping you. We picked up an eclectic group of odds and ends - croissants, donuts, danishes, and a big arancini stuffed with meat and vegetables. We attacked that first as an appetizer with dinner, and it was terrific. I can't wait to sample the rest of their wares. PRO TIP Their Italian cookies look amazing, and we will definitely be back to supply our Thanksgiving dessert table with their Rainbow and Birthday Cake cookie cubes.

Good donuts, needs tlc…read more I've been to this place before, and I appreciated the location despite it being an event. So being in the area, decided to come here and pick up some donuts for the ride home. We got here late in the day, and they were out of almost everything when I got there. I managed to get a churro and matcha donut. I then saw they did a Dubai chocolate strawberry cup, and had to give that a try as well ( they only do the cup on the weekends) The donuts were very fresh, light and chewy. They are high in price but much better in quality compared to other places I've tried. The Dubai strawberry cup had a kind of weak chocolate sauce over them. Not the cheapest stuff on the market, but not strong or mellow like the expensive chocolates. The strawberries were fresh, and the Dubai part needed a little salt to counteract the sweet and enhance the earthy. Inside is well decorated but dirty. All the tables were dirty, there's lots of dust and other ditritus when I was waiting for my dessert. It was end of day, so I get why they would not be fully clean. But there's some repairs that need to get done and there's cracks in the facade. Despite the lack of donuts, the quality was good and the Dubai strawberries were a nice sweet treat. This is a good place to get some interesting food items or sweet treats. Not a trek worthy spot, but good if you're around

I was looking for a stunning and delicious cake for my mom's 80th birthday, and I was absolutely delighted with the result. From the moment I walked into the shop, I knew I was in the right place. Lori greeted me warmly and generously took the time to talk through exactly what I was hoping for. It was such a refreshing change from the usual "hurry up" and "good enough" experience I often encounter when searching for something that matters deeply to me, even if it may not seem as significant to the person helping. Lori was attentive to every detail in the most efficient way. She guided me through decisions without ever being pushy, offered recommendations that were perfectly suited to my needs, and ultimately created one of the most beautiful - and most delicious - cakes I've ever had. She also packaged it carefully for the three-hour drive to New Jersey and thoughtfully accounted for potential January weather complications ahead of the party. My mother was truly blown away by the piano keyboard and hydrangea flower decorations, and our guests raved about the chocolate raspberry buttercream cake, as well as the salted caramel and vanilla cupcakes. Thank you, Lori, for an exceptional bakery experience at every level.
