SCKE - Worst Medical Experience - 0/10* My wife and I had a terrible experience at this facility. We were given a 4:00 PM appointment by the doctor herself, yet were made to wait over an hour with no explanation or apology. We were never seen by the doctor, She refused to review recent bloodwork from Hoag ER and instead sent us for new labs unnecessarily, wasting our time and money. This isn't the first issue. A few months ago, this same office ran a thyroid test on my wife and sent us to Hoag ER. Hoag re-ran the test and told us the results from SCKE were completely inaccurate. Two major errors affecting the same patient is unacceptable. Patients deserve respect, accurate testing, and doctors who value their time. We experienced none of that here. Had very unhelpful experience and care that did not take in the whole person of the patient or stop to listen to what the patient was sharing or conciously listening to my symptoms and what had worked for me in the past. My previous doctor's book of business transferred here when she left to the private sector When I brought labs and shared the why behind my request for a prescription I had been on for four years with no adverse side effects and equally had benefitted me. Instead of seeking to understand me as a patient and build a lifelong client relationship, they immediately discredited my previous doctor and refused to discuss my symptoms, they were defensive when I asked questions and worked to explain past conversations with my doctor. It's difficult when the medication I was requesting, is non-addictive, low-dosage, and it refreshes in my system every 24 hours. Whereas standard practice of doctors can place people on highly addictive or damaging medicines especially when considering women's health concerns. They treated me poorly and didn't seek to try and help. No matter what you explain, what family background you share, they will give you the same care as a first year med student who memorized their textbook. read more

This review is for the SCKE staff at the Irvine location. They don't have a page on Yelp but it's the same office, just a different location. I came one month postpartum with my baby to get labs done for my ongoing thyroid issues. It was pouring rain that day (Feb 16) and as soon as we arrived at the office, my baby pooped. I asked if they had a changing table, they said no. I asked if they had keys to the main bathroom which did have a changing table and they said they don't give that out. I asked if I could use one of the empty rooms to change my baby and they said no. I asked if I could change her on one of the chairs then and the staff told me I wasn't allowed to do that and I could change her on the floor of the bathroom if I needed to change her. The floor of the bathroom where everyone is giving urine samples. Even with my changing pad, I wasn't comfortable with that. I ended up taking her back outside and changing her in the rain in the trunk of my car. Not every place has a changing table or needs one, I get that, but they were so cold and unaccomadating and frankly really rude. The other patient in the waiting room was sweet enough to be upset for me and walk me out and help me with all the doors. I love Dr. Mehta but a doctor's office is largely measured by their staff and my baby isn't going anywhere and neither are her bowel movements so I guess I need to find a new endocrinologist. read more

They incorrectly charged me. I reached out to them they confirmed the mistake, said they would reverse the charge. That was 8 weeks ago. I reached out again, and they said they would fix it. Still nothing... Doctor wise I also had a very poor experience, would not recommend. read more

Initially I thought this office was pretty good. I have a thyroid condition called graves disease and well as a few other problems that required me to start a long year and half treatment. Doctor Markmen was knowledgeable and very to the point on what needed to be done. The issue is their abysmal billing department. I got called around July 2025 about an outstanding balance from 2024 that they said my insurance didn't cover and now I was on the hook for over $1,000. Keep in mind that was amost a year later, and i hadnt been contacted about any billing issues until then. I check with my insurance, got a contact and a reference # like thier billing office requested and asked them to handle the situation, as my insurance said I shouldn't owe anything, they paid out all of the claims, and that any issues should be reffered to them and not me. I didn't hear back and figured that it was settled. Well I walked into my doctors office for an appointment 6 months later to that same bill. They said my balance was too high to see my doctor. Note: I'm mid treatment and have to get blood tests every 1-2 months to make sure my liver can handle the perscription regiment I'm on. So after getting turned away, I call my insurance again to get them in contact with the doctors billing and they again told me everything should be paid in full. They contacted the billing department and they said they would get back withing 1-2 weeks. I waited those weeks and called again, where I was told they would escalate the situation. So I waited again. Today I called my insurance company first at my lunch hour and asked if we could just do a three way call to get this settled (funny how the insurance was the easier to deal with in this whole situation). So we called billing together, where the only responce i got was that they would escalate it again. At this point I kinda of at a loss on what to do here. I have all my Insurance EOB's stating what I owe(i have a PPO, and im in network), I had the insurance company on the line and could backup all the info, but they were unwilling to speak to me and settle the matter. I've also tried contacting through their portal twice with no answer from the office administrator(and no option to contact my doctor directly to apprise her of the situation). The fact that their office is also closed for ALL calls from 12-1(peak lunch hours when i can het away feom work) and they never reach out when you leave a message, also doesnt help. I know i have A balance (Im an accountant and ive spent my own time to figure out my actual balance per my insurance's statements) but its not nearly what theyve been billing me. I've literally gone through every avenue to get this thing settled with no resolution and am honestly about to submit grievance forms to my insurance as well as a few of California's agencies. Being denied to see my doctor, to me, is kind of the last straw here as I genuinely need to be able to track my liver function and make sure im not on too high a dose. If you've read this far, all I can say is be weary if coming here becuase any billing issues that pop up won't be resolved easily (and I have a PPO AND am in network). read more

I'm new to the area and needed to get my medications refilled quickly, but it took some time to get a primary care visit and referrals, so I was worried about running out. Once I received my referral, I visited the South County Kidney & Endocrine Center to check on the process and handle any paperwork in advance. Lina at the front desk greeted me warmly and answered all of my questions with patience and kindness. She even offered to fit me in for a same-day walk-in appointment--which was an incredible help. She guided me through the paperwork, delaying her own lunch to assist me, and printed out my medical records so I'd be prepared. As someone with vision impairment, that support made a huge difference. After my appointment, she checked in again to ensure everything was in order, including labs and follow-ups. Her care and attention from start to finish were exceptional. I also had a thorough and thoughtful visit with Jill Jones, PA, who reviewed everything in detail. As I waited for my ride, I noticed how respectfully and kindly everyone in the office was treated. I'm truly grateful for the care I received--it far exceeded my expectations. read more

I came to Dr. Markman for a serious issue--postmenopausal bleeding (likely cervical cancer) and severe pain. She did not show any empathy, or even ask to schedule a follow up appt. I had blood drawn that day--in this office (SCKE). Dr. Markman scheduled a follow up appointment to review the results on Oct. 1, the last day telemed appointments will be available, and I heard nothing. I left a message. She NEVER called to give me my results. No one called. I am left with no answers, and ended up in urgent care with severe pain--having no sleep all night. This doctor does not care about her patients, and I would advise avoiding Dr. Markman. I do not understand how this is allowed. People rely on Doctors for help, and this should not be happening. I will be filing a complaint with the CA Medical Board. read more

i moved to irvine in june. i had been in LA since 2013 and needed to establish new care. i did some research and found this group. unlike typical places i have been this place seems to really take their time to understand your concerns. just finished my first visit and met with a physician's assistant names yaseen. yaseen was extremely knowledgeable and thorough in going through my medical history and asking questions and making sure i was not rushed through the process. yaseen gave me great info on my medications and basically gave me a fantastic impression of this medical group. i plan on establishing my primary care here as well. thank you! read more

I reached out two months ahead of when I wanted an appointment for my daughter who is a minor. I communicated with the office staff and told them her age and gave her birthdate in response to questions they had. Then, the DAY BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT, they call and say they don't treat minors. UNPROFESSIONAL is the word that readily comes to mind. Now my daughter is on break and has time to see the doctor, but there is no way I will get an appointment before she's back into her school and activities. This review applies to the support staff, not the doctors. Dealing with the support staff is one headache after the next! (They're also known as Irvine Odyssey Medical Group.) My first indicator of office incompetence was when I called to reschedule an appointment several days before the "deadline". No one would answered the phone so I finally left a voicemail with my contact info and cancellation details. No one ever called me back. I was shocked to be billed $50 later on for a cancellation fee! Moving on, the next screw up was when my lab work was sent to a diagnostic lab...out of network!!! I got billed for lab work that was 100% covered in network. When I called the office to discuss this, they didn't really care they sent it to an out of network provider or that I was billed $40 for something that should have been free. Their response, "oh! Sorry." The least they could have done was cover the charges for their mistake. Final straw was when I had a tele-visit to get my lab results from the NP. Tele-visits are 100% covered under my insurance. Once again the support staff ran amok and mis-coded the visit as in office! Once again I was billed for something that should have been free. Once again, this office did not fix the problem. After an email and I don't know how many phone calls with this office, numerous phone calls with my insurance, and still no resolution, I gave up and switched providers. Makes me sad because Dr. Yacoob was great to work with! read more

My has appt for today 3/13. Main concern is the MA who took my dad's vitals. She took the BP but my dad's arm is not in a resting position. She made him reach the bed and not leaned back which will give you false reading. Heart rate, she palpated dad's left wrist for 15 seconds and said it's 80 something. Dad's HR goes that high. He is usually bradycardic from mid 50s-60s. How can you say it's 80 if you only palpated for 15 seconds? Multiplied it by 4? Hmmm...Blood sugar. She was wearing gloves and noticed she doesn't have the strips. She went out of the room to get strips but was using her gloves still. Came back with same gloves and picked up the cotton ball that fell using same gloves. She was gonna resume checking my dad's sugar with same gloves until I told her to change it. I've been with SCKE for over a decade, and the care they give can't be matched. Because they have an accurate in-house lab, my thyroid levels finally stabilized (as have my struggles with my weight). Dr. Bandukwala, my endocrinologist, takes time to listen to my symptoms, evaluates, and offers solutions. The front office staff - namely Cherry - go out of their way to work with my schedule, even offering tele-health appts. The back office are just as kind & helpful. The facility is beautiful, clean, modern, w/parking. The only downside? Their popularity means they are becoming more booked-out in advance. So wait. Why am I posting this review?? read more

My review is mainly for Dr. Mehta...the absolute best!! She has helped me immensely. When I first came to see her I was experiencing health issues and had could not figure out what was going on. She helped me get it all figured out and I cannot thank her enough! She is so kind, helpful and informative. She never makes me feel rushed and answers all my questions. Most of the staff and nurses are also very kind. I personally like the Laguna Hills office best. Today I was in and out in 20 minutes and it was a great experience. Terrible patient services, work with terrible vendors. Impossible to get a call back, medical records have awful portability, you have to message doctor through terrible Web 1.0 medical portal. But they will def repeatedly call text and email about a bill that they want you to pay but don't clearly itemize so their owners can get paid while cheating you on service. read more
