Instructions were given, was prescribed a few things, shot was given and then asked for a follow up. Was out the consultation room in less than 10 minutes. What I didn't have a good experience with is the company's practice and lack of professionalism when it comes to billing and insurance / credit card retention. I gave them my insurance information 5x and they still did not keep my in-network insurance on file until I asked them to charge my $40 copay the afternoon of my visit after I realized that there's definitely a copay for that visit. I called 4x before someone answered. During the call to pay my copay, it turns out the front desk person I met did not put my information in despite saying she did. What she did keep was my credit card information that they refuse to delete despite me never signing any form to justify it. This practice will try to make you sign a form that forces you to keep a payment card on file, have it charged without notification when there is a bill and forgo your right to dispute the charge if there's a discrepancy in billing. I shared the image of the form below. The front desk personnel will also hound you if you don't put your personal address and ssn on the forms. I gave them my address but the fd still refused to acknowledged that I wrote it down. I generally have payment cards stored for copayments at other practices. However, I have never had practice (or worked at a practice) that has these terms and conditions. It feels almost predatory and extremely insensitive. I understand when bills are due they are due. However, not saving my insurance information when I gave it multiple times, refusing to acknowledge I had filled the health forms online and even written down my address. Is just terrible practice as someone who also works in the medical field. I even emailed the team and offered them to submit the insurance claim myself just to ensure that it does get billed to them first. I even asked for a patient ledger once it's done cause I need to know my claim gets billed correctly. Furthermore, they do store you whole card information on their computer system and not an secure off-site institution as they claim, cause the FD on the phone confirming my copay was able to repeat the card number from front to back. Trust me this is not standard practice at medical offices or even businesses. At most the only card info a business would have is the last 4 digits of the card and it's expiration. Not the whole card's information I did not sign anything (their green agreement policy) that authorizes them to charge my card without my consent or say so cause I am not tardy on bills. (If I was why would I called 3 hours later to pay my copay immediately) But treating every new or existing patient like they are out for free service gives the impression that it's money first before your health by a long-shot. Most practices I've been to are not like this The whole fiasco about not wanting to save my insurance so they bill me directly instead cemented my experience at this practice. The doctor may be nice but the billing system and practice is definitely flawed. It's almost like they operate more like a beauty spa/ clinic than an actual medical facility for people with skin conditions. The administrative staff seem unwilling to actually do their role besides pushing you to fill out the green agreement form (pictured below), give card information and your address to ensure they can bill you instead and then send you to collections. Everything but sending the claim to insurance it seems. Definitely won't be back and will follow up to ensure they do send my claims, and would not recommend this practice to any patient needing care without the administrative stress.

I feel it's necessary to update my review for Michael Dans, MD from the one I wrote five years ago…read morein which I gave him 5-stars after more than a decade of being his patient. Things have changed enough that I feel others could benefit from my recent experiences. Since 2021, I've had 3 negative experiences with Michael Dans. After the third one, I've decided I won't be going to his practice anymore. For context, I started seeing Dans around 2010. I was referred to him by a friend who is a dermatologist in SF. I will tell my friend about this so she can consider whether to recommend Dans or not. The first negative experience was regarding a prescription request for oral Rogaine. I had been using topical Rogaine for 15+ years and had decent results. Oral Rogaine had gained some popularity and boasted better results. I asked Dans (via the patient portal) if he would prescribe it for me. He told me I would have to schedule an in-person appointment to see him so he could advise me of the risks. $350 for a five-minute conversation? I told him I didn't feel it was necessary because I had read all the education materials about the drug and was aware of the risks, side effects, etc. He remained firm. I asked my primary care doctor if he would prescribe it and provided him with the background. My PCP prescribed it without any issue and did not charge me. Done. Next, at my last skin check with him (I see him annually because I spend a good amount of time in the sun). The visit lasted less than 5 minutes. I timed it because the year prior caused me concern about the amount of time he spent examining me. He did not do a thorough exam, in my opinion. He appeared in a hurry. He was out the door before I could ask questions. The third and final one. I have a prescription for athlete's foot which Dans prescribed for me. Pre-pandemic, I went to a gym regularly and the rash would flare up from time to time. About a year ago, I started going to a gym again. The athlete's foot came back, so I messaged Dans a couple of months ago to ask for a refill. The prescription and refills had expired. He told me I would have to schedule an office visit to see him. I called the office to speak with the office manager. I explained that I felt it was a waste of time and money for me to come in for this. The athlete's foot is the same as it's ever been. She was kind and cordial and said she'd talk to Dans. He was unrelenting: office visit or no prescription. My observation about this doctor: He doesn't appear to like patients, and he doesn't appear to enjoy practicing medicine.

There is something very reassuring about a doctor who seems to actually care about the person sitting in front of him. That quality is surprisingly rare, and Dr. Chansky has it in spades. He is--at least for now--a Blue Cross/Blue Shield preferred-provider--to which I belong. In January, 2026, he administered a drug that without the insurance-contract would cost $400. The insurance paid him the contractually permitted amount. The payment was RETURNED to Blue Cross, and I was billed the full $400. I contacted the office; it is virtually impossible to speak to anyone. I repeatedly e-mailed them the "EOB" [explanation of benefits], which documents that I owe $0. They did not correct their records. Blue Cross also tried to contact them on the phone. Finally, Blue Cross issued Chansky's office a "demand letter" in August--telling them that they had 30 days to stop billing me. This is called "balance billing," and it is illegal both under federal and California law. In September, the invoice was finally corrected, but I only found this out by signing-on to my account. They never acknowledged the illegality of what they had done, and they never notified me of the correction.

It has been a couple of years since my initial visit, and I still regret walking through that door…read moreevery single day. I've spent thousands of dollars trying to correct the damage caused by the Kybella treatments Dr. Maas recommended for my cheeks--damage that he later attempted to patch with lopsided, uneven filler. The deep indentations at the injection sites, combined with the deflated skin, have left me looking partially melted. I am in my early 40s and once looked young for my age, but now the results have aged me by at least five years. Dr. Maas assured me my skin would "snap back," but it never did, and I feel foolish for believing that sales pitch. What makes this even harder to accept is that my original reason for visiting was to discuss a blepharoplasty--not fat reduction. Instead, he zeroed in on my perioral mounds and convinced me that Kybella would be a simple fix. It wasn't. The results were uneven and disfiguring. Even other providers I've since consulted with react with concern when I mention "Kybella in my cheeks," often saying they cannot understand why anyone would inject it there. After multiple consultations, I've come to accept that a facelift may be the only way to correct this damage. I strongly urge anyone considering treatment here to seek a second opinion before committing. Otherwise, you may end up, as I have, living with a botched result that serves as a daily reminder of misplaced trust.
