Most of my experience thus far was highly favorable. (1) The practice continues (Nov 2022) to use good practices for infection control -- including mask wearing and having walk-in patients wait in their cars before entering the facility. (2) I interacted with three staff -- the receptionist at the front desk; the health aide who took weight, temperature, blood pressure, history; and the physician. All were competent, respectful, and friendly. (3) The doctor took time to comprehensively talk with me to understand my medical history and needs going forward. (4) I was appropriately referred for some preventative screenings, as well as to a specialist in the Univ of Virginia system for an ongoing concern. I like the inter-connectedness of the medical services, including the ability to share records in MyChart. On the negative side, it took forever to get a "new patient" appointment. I believe that I made the appointment for my November appointment back in March or April. My husband, who only made his appointment in September, will have his first visit in March. That said, we understand that once you're registered as a patient of the practice, you could avail yourself to same-day medical services in the event of illness. We have had challenges, however, in getting prescription refills from our previous out-of-area physicians as we wait(ed) for our first appointments with Medical Associates. We appreciate that this practice is providing medical services in our relatively rural location.

It is good I don't take heart medication or anything or I would just have to die and reduce the surface population. She is callous and the motto "do no harm" doesn't mean anything to her. Patient care is not her primary concern it seems. I do not find her compassionate or a good family practice doctor as they are concerned with the care of their patients.

Dr. Lord has been my PCP for over Seven Years and continuing to have him as my PCP is well worth the Hour and a Half Drive each way. So I most heartedly recommend Dr. Lord and his new practice at WellFamily Medicine. My experience with the Front Office and with Dr. Lord's Nurse have been absolutely positive! In fact, on my first visit, I accidentally reopened s wound on my forearm and the receptionist immediately called for Dr. Lord's Nurse, who took me back to a room, cleaned the blood from my arm, and bandaged my wound. But if you want a true care team--literally two doctors who will know your children by name, provide thoughtful and individualized treatment, and actually keep you informed--this is the place for you. When I first called, Anastasia let me know they're a smaller practice. So yes, I may wait on hold for a couple minutes while they're helping another patient--but I'll take that any day over the rushed, impersonal care we've experienced elsewhere. At the other offices, they'd order multiple bacterial infection tests based only on symptoms I described over the phone--without even seeing my children. That's not care--that's just billing insurance as quickly as possible. Sky Valley is the complete opposite. She is the BEST DOCTOR I've ever had and that is saying a lot because I have a couple of chronic conditions and have seen literally more than 200 doctors! She listens patiently, discusses your illness or disease and its likely course, then discusses the options with you. With me, I feel like I go in to see her, tell how I feel and what my symptoms are, she asks a few clarifying questions and exams me, then she tells me what's wrong and discusses with me how to make it feel better and get better. She is willing to change directions when something is not working and she is also willing to "try it your way" when you come in with thoughts and ideas for a treatment plan that you want to try (as long as it it safe), even if it is not the approach that she would normally advise. She will tell you when you need more advanced or specialized care than she can provide in her office and will refer you to an appropriate specialist. She is always open and honest with her patients. Her office staff are all professional, efficient, and kind. I highly recommend her! If she is not available, Dr. Kurtis Elward, another doctor in that same practice, is also very good.

They haven't "ignored" me in the literal sense, but they make no real effort to actually connect. I get callbacks at 4:50 PM, but the phones are already off when I call back two minutes later. They don't leave informative voicemails and they don't respond to the portal. The most ridiculous part is that I actually paid for an appointment with the NP just to get a message through to the staff. Even after paying for that visit, it has been three business days and the issue is still not resolved. They took my payment for an appointment and still haven't lifted a finger to fix the medication lapse. If you are a busy person who expects a basic level of professional follow-through, look elsewhere.

During my introductory visit, my vitals were checked and a detailed health history was taken. Dr. Harrington asked me to elaborate on some of my history and both he and his nurse/PA (Latonya Williams) acted as if they had all the time in the world to address my concerns and questions. I am confident should any health issues arise, they will be address quickly and taken care of thoroughly (I am approaching 60 so yes, there will be issues at some point). My 85 year old mother (difficult to please on occasion) now sees Dr. Harrington and "adores" him. I can definitely recommend Dr. Harrington should you be looking for a family doctor.
