Caveat: We didn't use Schumann's for our wedding. I'm only basing this review on our tasting. Schumann's gave us a big list of dishes on various sample menus to choose from before the tasting. We had tried some of their food before at a Brazilian Room bridal fair like onion puffs, and thought they were good but not amazing (GBNA), and wanted to try some new stuff. They served us many of the apps we suggested as well as the onion puffs. At first I was disappointed to seem the ol' onion puffs, but then I realized why they push them so much. They were by far the best appetizer. That's when I realized - there's a reason caterers push certain dishes. Schumann's let us try several appetizers. The curried chicken triangles had too much puffed pastry. The chicken satay was served cold, and overlooking the fact that the meat was still only okay, not nearly as good as what you could get in a restaurant. The accompanying dipping sauce was terrible and tasted like peanut butter instead of a peanut sauce. (We had tried the chicken satay at Ann Walker Catering two weeks before and this paled by comparison). The bruschetta suffered from out of season tomatoes, so as a result it was hard to judge. (But really they shouldn't have served it to us.) The appetizers we liked the most were the curried carrot soup shots. They were GBNA, but we thought they would be fun to serve at the reception. The boyfriend liked the ahi tuna on crostini, but I thought it was only fair to middling. The mushrooms stuffed with pine nuts and pesto were my favorite. And of course the onion puffs shined after the poor showing of the satay, chicken curry triangles, and bruschetta. The best dish we tried by far was the spring greens with candied pecans and pears. It was one of the best salads I've ever had. Even the boyfriend who isn't a big salad fan and doesn't like salad dressing, liked the salad and dressing. The caprese salad of tomato, fresh mozarella, and lettuce was only okay. Again, the tomatoes were out of season, and I don't think there was any basil to punch up the flavors. We also tried sides of asparagus spears, saffron risotto, and broccoli with pinenuts. Of these, the asparagus spears were the only ones worthy of continuing on to our potential wedding menu. The entrees were unimpressive. The seabass with fruit salsa and chicken in a mushroom wine sauce both tasted like bad hotel food. While tasting the food, one word kept popping into my head: "amateurish." That's how I felt about many of the dishes - especially the unfortunate appetizers. And I wanted a caterer where I felt I would pay for their food if they had a restaurant. I did not feel this way about Schumann's. The brothers Schumann are super nice. The tasting is in their office which is super cluttered with books and papers on every piece of furniture. They offer some of the lowest prices for catering around. We're super into food and dining out, so we weren't as impressed with the food, but for a bride who's trying to save a buck this is a good option. The first time we met Al, we immediately felt good vibes from him. We are a couple of a very tight budget, so we hate surprises. Al is very direct and specific of what we had to pay. We do not have to pay for chinaware and forks, no corkage fee, we provide the drinks, he provides the bar tender, no cake cutting fee and we pay the servers, linens and the food. Our event is not as simple as any other wedding. We had to add ethnic food to our menu, and Al is very flexible with it. As the event comes close, we have to cut some of our expenses and Al does not really mind us doing this. 2 weeks before the wedding, we met at the hall where I will have my ceremony and reception. We had a very stict time guideline and we will need the servers to convert the hall from ceremony to reception, while taking care of the hors'd erves and serving the guest. We almost thought Al will not agree to the time frame we provided him, but to our surprise he said it is difficult but is possible. He is flexible and is willing to work with us every single time. He let us be in charge of our own wedding, and he did the best that he can to provide us with a very good service. We asked for a tasting, and we love the food that was served to us esp. that wrapped artichoke hearts. Al is very warm and easy to work with. With our budget, I think we got a steal.. I got married at the Los Altos History Museum on 8/3/19 and used Frank and team for catering services. If you plan to get married at LAHM, then please highly considering hiring Frank as your caterer! He knows the venue SO well and even helped direct/instruct other vendors. His staff manages all set up and tear down of chairs/tables, cooking of the food fresh onsite, serving of the food, bartending, and Frank handles ordering and renting linens, barware, glassware, etc. Frank has been in the catering business for a long time, you can tell. Do not be turned off if he isn't as quick at responding to e-mails as some other vendors are, because his food is delicious and he knows how to orchestrate his staff. The food: We had passed appetizers (crostini w/cambazola cheese & phyllo wrapped artichoke hearts with cream cheese [people have been raving about those]). For the meal we had a buffet of carved tri tip, chicken skewers, mashed potatoes, roasted seasonal veggies, salad, and tortellini. We have received many great compliments from our guests. Horrible customer service. I live on the east coast, and contacted Al via email and telephone. The email correspondence was spotty at best, the only way to reach him was by telephone (or the answering machine). He was timely with a quote, but that is as far as we got with Al. Up to that point we thought everything was going well. We had high hopes for Al. I was making a two week trip to CA (we don't fly out there much), and I was trying to set up appointments for venues and tastings. I had tried to schedule a tasting with him, and this is where things really fell apart. About a week before my trip to CA, Al told me he was checking his schedule to set a date for tasting while I was in CA for those two weeks. Schumanns catered our wedding in December and we are thrilled with the results. They have been in business for years and you can rest assured that no detail will be forgottten. Frank is trustworthy and reliable and keeps everything on track. The food was amazing and he was so great working with our kosher needs. He offered money saving suggestions and his crew was top notch. The food was delicious and you get bang for your buck. There was a TON of food and the prices were totally reasonable. Our tasting was better than the actual wedding execution. During the tasting, I asked Al if we needed to specify how many portions of each entree. He said no. I trusted the professionals. I got burned. On the morning of our wedding, Al sent my wife an email saying he wouldn't be there. His brother was there to manage the kitchen. I understand, there was a family emergency. I get it. Not a big deal. The first thing the brother asks me is "How many chicken, how many fish?" I was furious...seriously? Your brother said you guys would handle that, and you didn't! My husband and I got married 9/6/15 at Hidden Villa and we chose Frank and his team as our caterers- and we're so happy that we did!! Frank was actually the first and only caterer we met with. We decided to visit him first based on his great reviews here on yelp and on some other wedding boards, and after we met with him we knew he was the one for us! He has been in the industry for quite a while and he REALLY knows his stuff. He's a seasoned professional when it comes to weddings, and he's a joy to work with as a person. On our wedding day, and in the weeks leading up to it, Frank also acted somewhat as a coordinator for us also! He had a copy of our day of timeline and he let us know which parts would run smoothly and which parts we'd need to allow more time for- I was so thankful for this because we would not have known otherwise! He was really involved in making the day run smoothly, in addition to providing the most delicious food! some special notes: After cocktail hour/family pictures, when my husband and I sat down at our sweetheart table, Frank personally came to our table with a plate with all our hor dourves! We were so happy because we were taking pictures during cocktail hour, we thought we'd missed out on trying these. After pre-ceremony bridal party photos and before the ceremony, the bridal party were all hidden in a room relaxing before the start of the ceremony. Frank brought everyone a large platter of meats, cheeses, bread, grapes, and other fruits so everyone could eat something. Everyone was so happy for this! Frank lets you bring your own beer and wine with no corkage fees. Frank knows how to involve himself enough so you know everything is taken care of without making his presence known or overbearing. My husband and I booked them for catering our wedding in July and I'm so glad we did. Frank is hard working, super accommodating, polite, sweet, detail oriented, organized and quickly responsive. On the occasions where I felt I was asking too much of him, his response was always, "Whatever you want. It's your wedding, just tell me what you want and we'll do it no problem." Hands down, you have to book Schumann's Four Seasons Catering for your event. I've been to plenty of weddings where the appetizers taste stale from being prepped so far in advance, and the entrees cold by the time it gets to you...but NOT with Frank and his team. Everything was high quality and proper temperature. Not only were we so impressed with he quality of food we ate that night, but so were our guests. Even during cocktail hour, our guests told us how amazing-tasting our appetizers were. I have a vegetarian friend who's husband liked the bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with cheese so much that she broke her own rules and tried it and even she said it was delicious. And they were sweet enough to save a plate of appetizers for us to eat since they knew we wouldn't get a chance to during cocktail hour. I will start with the positive. My husband and I got married couple weekends ago, I was impressed with how well all the servers dressed, and how nice all of them were. The server, Marco, who served our sweetheart table came up to introduce himself to us, i thought that was really nice and polite of him. Prior to the our wedding, the communication with them was not great to start with. I know they are busy, but responding to emails in between jobs should not be the excuse to be rude, Hello? we are paying for your service, it's not like you are doing it for free!!! At the wedding, we ended up with this ugly looking, blue and white porcelain wannabe, PLASTIC bowl on 13 of our tables. Which my husband had SPECIFICALLY asked them not to use. How they made their ways to our wedding still remains a mystery. The most upsetting part with their service was the fact that not everyone got to taste the cake, when there were lots of leftover in the back. Some tables got served with the cake, some tables got a few pieces (3 out of 8 people got to try), and some tables didn't get any at all. We worked with Al from Schumann's Four Seasons for our April 2010 wedding at the Brazilian Room in Berkeley. Al is a true professional and very easy to work with. He made sure we felt comfortable and stress-free through the entire wedding planning process. It's clear from talking to him that he's very experienced with catering, but at the same time down-to-earth and in touch with our needs. He provided us with lots of practical advice on how to best structure our day, tips on how to save money, how many/what drinks to buy and placing the table layout, and even what size to buy the cake! They have an extensive menu and everything is delicious. Schumann's also provided great food at a very reasonable and straightforward pricing structure. This was refreshingly easy compared to the back and forth quotes we had with other caterers. On the wedding day, everything went smoothly. They were in place, set up and coordinated the schedule behind the scenes with our DJ, florist and photographer as necessary, without a hitch. We had a very complicated day with 2 ceremonies and 3 outfit changes, but they adapted to our schedule and made sure that everything ran smoothly. Their waitstaff was efficient and friendly, and our guests commented that they loved the food and also the presentation. Al brought in greens, as well as a wonderful water fountain centerpiece for the buffet line and it looked great. At the end of the day they were really good about cleaning things up and making sure that we got our items and bottles ready to load up in our cars. After meeting with several snooty caterers, it was so refreshing to meet Al Schumann! He was so friendly and down to earth, but still professional and together. Al had no problem offering great food within our budget. When I talked to other caterers about our total catering budget (which was about $6,000 for 120 people) they said that wouldn't be a problem and lured us in for a tasting. When it came time to look at a proposal, the total was more than $2,000 above our agreed upon limit. Mr. Schumann, on the other hand, was very honest and up front, and the price was exactly what was promised. It has been a pleasure working with him. On our wedding day, the food exceeded our expectations. We had guests tell us the tri-tip was the best they'd ever had. It really was delicious. Super juicy and flavorful, which is not easy when cooking that many of them! The garlic mashed potatoes were delicious, too, and the presentation was beautiful. Oooh, and their salad with the sliced pears is yummy (I'm not a salad person, but throw some fruit and candied walnuts on there and I'm sold). Al also delivered our alcohol for us (our venue allowed us to purchase our own) which took away a lot of our stress! Also, although he only had an hour to set up (we had our wedding at the Brazilian Room, which has a million rules) everything was ready right on time. I was warned by my photographer that sometimes caterers don't get everything set up in time at the Brazlian Room, so it can be difficult for her to get picture of all the details before the wedding. Not so for us! Al and his crew really came through and did everything they promised. And they were all so nice!!! That's important when you're trying to enjoy your wedding. These guys are awesome. In the process of planning our wedding I was probably most anxious about the food. I think that this is because the food portion of the budget is so large and I've been to many a large event (and heard of many more) with food that is not at all good. I was probably like most brides in that I wanted to have really tasty, high quality food at a price that I could afford. Our event was at the Brazil Room which meant we had a specific group of caterers to choose from. Thanks to other Yelp reviews, I knew that our best chance at having a true sense of Schumann's Four Seasons was to visit their office in Mountain View for our tasting (if they bring any food to the meetings at the Brazil room it isn't freshly prepared since Al is the only one who makes the trip up to the Berkeley hills). I also knew that if I wanted the best tasting ingredients I'd have to choose from what was in season at the time of our event. Since our tasting was in the fall and our event was in the spring, I just asked to have a sampling of their best offerings. That way I could get an idea of how they do what they do. For our actual event I figured the combination of good fresh ingredients and professional expertise would result in delicious food. After our tasting with Al Schumann, I was still anxious because I thought that it was too good to be true. But their food was the best that we had tasted and the total cost of their quote came in at $1000 less than the least expensive quote that we'd had up until then. In our case the $1000 difference in price was due to the cost of rentals, since Four Seasons has all their own dishes, glassware, and silverware, we didn't have to incur that cost. Al was gracious with fulfilling my off-menu requests. I had several communications with him over email and then one meeting at the Brazil room to go over all the specific details for our event. He clearly had done this sort of thing before which gave me a real sense of confidence that the food was not something I needed to worry about at all. I was right! The food was spectacular. The service was excellent. I enjoyed my wedding day and meal without a single worry about the caterers. Our guests loved the meal and continue to tell me how great our wedding dinner was. read more

We had a wonderful experience using Frank Schumann to cater our wedding this June. He was able to provide a wonderful buffet with plenty of excellent food and great service for a very reasonable price. My mouth is still watering thinking about the fantastic meal he served...yes the bride actually ate at this wedding! When my husband and I arrived at our seats at the start of dinner there was a plate waiting for us with two of each of the appetizers that had been served at cocktail hour and then we were ushered through the buffet first to ensure we had time to eat quickly before we started our mingling rounds. Frank was extremely straight forward throughout the entire process. We aren't used to hosting large parties (we had 150 at our wedding) and he helped us with many of our decisions. We never felt pressured to do anything we didn't want and he always laid out our options with price estimates so that we could make informed choices. The pricing was extremely close to our original estimates that he gave us after the tasting. The day of the wedding I had absolutely no worries about the food, bar, or cake. As an aside, Frank lets you bring your own alcohol for the bar and just use his bartender, which saves a ton of money. Frank facilitated everything day of and it turned out wonderfully. We used Schumann's for our wedding last August. Their food was good and we enjoyed our appetizers the most. Too bad we didn't get any appetizers at our wedding. Al was great to work with and we were able to meet with him multiple times times to go over our wedding plans. He also had great pricing and was flexible with his menu. I'd say it was 4 stars up until our wedding day. Let me list the things that went wrong on our wedding day: 1. We had told Al we had 270 guests. Sadly, there were not enough plates or food to go around. Some people barely got any food. 2. Our wedding ceremony was delayed OVER 30 minutes while we were trying to get the runner that Al rented set up correctly. The runner came late, right before the ceremony was scheduled to start. Then, even though I was assured that the runner was heavy enough to use in grass, some of my wedding helpers noticed that it would definitely move around or stick to my bridesmaids' heels as they walked. Al left one of his staff with my wedding helpers to try to help them pin down the runner, and he just basically walked away after 2 minutes. 3. I had specifically asked Al not to serve any alcohol or beverages right after the ceremony. We had an open bar, but I really wanted a good 30 minute window after the ceremony before cocktail hour so the guests that needed to take photos would pay attention and not be distracted by the bar. Sadly, as soon as I walked down the aisle, I saw the staff line up with filled wine glasses on their trays! I had specifically told Al NOT to start cocktail hour for 30 minutes. Even before the rest of the wedding party walked down the aisle, I told my wedding coordinator to tell the servers to NOT serve the wine yet. (They didn't move and the wine was served). So, we had to chase everyone down that was supposed to be in our photos. At least they didn't serve hard liquor right away, but I did notice that a lot of the wedding party managed to get Hennessey. (Read my photographer's review Derek Wong Photography) but when I went to try to get some Vodka to soothe my irritation, the bartender I had wouldn't even give it to me...the BRIDE. I mean at least someone was following directions, but if you're going to let the groomsmen and guests have hard liquor, give me mine! 4. Al said he would have a tray of appetizers put aside for the bridal party, and especially my husband and I since he knew we would be taking pictures right after the ceremony during cocktail hour. We never got our appetizers. Luckily we had a couple since my sister started accosting the servers right when they walked out of the door. Sad, I didn't even get to try all of them on our wedding day. It wouldn't have been such a big deal if Al wasn't the one who suggested the idea and assured us it would be done. 5. They opened all of our bottles of champagne and cider (many which were not drank) and never served them at our tables. My family was trying to drink all of the cider on their way out. They were also scrambling for wine corks (which were tossed) to save bottles of unused wine. 6. I specifically asked for them to serve my husband and I the bottle of Dom, which we never got. Somehow our guests got it and I got to drink one last sip out of the bottle. They were also supposed to only serve 1/2 of the magnum of grey goose we had (I asked them to put it aside once they reached half) and it was pretty much empty by the time I got to it. 7. Some of the servers were drinking wine in the kitchen. I saw them when I had to go through a back entrance to change my dress. (At least someone drank some of the opened bottles of wine). You know, I initially gave this review 3 stars, but thinking about all of the problems we had (thank goodness I found out MOST of them after the wedding) I had to bump it down to 2. Sadly, most of the issues were probably with the staff Al hired, but if they are not listening to his instructions, they are representing his company negatively. My wife and I had a great experience with Al Schumann for our wedding in September 2010. He was great to work with and he's a great guy. We had a vision of what we wanted for our wedding food- and budget-wise and he delivered. * I brewed my own beer for the wedding with amusing labels on them and he was happy to serve the bottle without pouring the beer into a glass. * We made our own flavored vodka cellos and made our own recipes of mixed drinks to accompany each. He was happy to serve our drinks. * He suggested we buy all the alcohol on our own from BevMo because it was cheaper and we could return all unused wines and champagne. We stocked up at the 5¢ wine sale four months before our wedding and were able to return all unscarred labeled bottles afterward - this was a huge savings. * We wanted a buffet of all our favorite comfort foods: mac & cheese, pizza, fondue, grilled cheese bite appetizers, plus some of his own offered items. He delivered and our friends raved. * Our wedding was a mix of vegetarian Indians and carnivorous white folks. We had Al do veggie foods and versions of them with meat. He was happy to oblige. * He allowed other food vendors there as well. We had a woman make a few Indian food dishes that he heated up and served. And he allowed a food cart guy to be there for cocktail hour. It couldn't have gone better. The guy will do anything you want. We gave him a recipe for Penne a la Vodka. His chef nailed it. The only negative comment I received was a few friends mentioned there weren't enough appetizers circulating for cocktail hour - but that's subjective. I was too distracted too notice such things. All you'd have to do is tell him to serve a lot of appetizers and he'll do it. Out of all our dealings with him throughout the process and on the wedding day, a dozen or so people mentioning they wish there were more appetizers is the worst thing that happened and that's more of an over-site on the part of my wife and I. read more

For our wedding, food was very important to me. I looked at numerous places, but the vast majority seemed well above our budget. After talking to one caterer who seemed to have a serious listening problem, we were so happy to meet with Frank Schumann who listened to what we wanted and simply said that it wouldn't be a problem. He made suggestions when we asked for his advice, but generally let us drive the conversation and make the decisions. His price was also in the right range. We set up a time to go in and taste the menu that we had discussed. We were fearful that the food would only be so-so, but it wasn't! Everything tasted really good. We had chosen items that weren't on their usual list of menu items. One of the dishes we asked them to prepare was actually a recipe that we provided to them. They also allowed us to supply our own wine and didn't charge a corkage fee. Their flexibility was so refreshing, and the fact that the food tasted great was even better! If you need someone who is going to respond quickly to your emails and be in constant communication with you, then they might not be the right caterers for you, but if you want to work with people to whom you can describe what you want and then have them take care of all of the details and produce a fabulous meal, then these guys are it. They even helped to construct our table centerpieces which were partially edible. The wait staff that they provided for the day of the wedding was very good. They promptly served all of our guests and took care of any and all special requests. Our guests were all commenting on how good the food was and how surprised they were at its high quality. At the end of the day, we were surprised to find that all of the open bottles of wine (we had open bottles on each table) had been consolidated into a small handful of bottles for us to take home along with any unopened bottles. All in all, Frank and his team made sure that everything ran smoothly so that we and our guests were able to thoroughly enjoy the day without any worries. read more

We worked with Al for our wedding at Thomas Fogarty Winery a few weeks ago and my husband and I are so pleased with schumanns! We haven't stopped getting compliments about how delicious the food was! A few things I loved about schumann's was what the offered! We has a mashed potato bar served in mini martini glasses with all the toppings, cookies in milk shot glasses, and the also did white wine sangria with the wine from Fogarty which was so tasty! Since we did a buffet at our wedding Al suggested doing plated salad so guests could eat during toasts ( I loved that idea) Everything was a great price for what we got! No cake cutting fee or corkage fee and they supplied the linens and serve ware. They had lots of choices to choose from so it made everything so easy! I showed Al a picture of how I wanted the table scape and layout for the reception and everything was just how I wanted it. The reason why I give schumanns 4 stars is because at the end of the night I saw our guests walking around WITH the wine bottles. The wine was pretty expensive and I didn't want guests taking bottles. I think that's on the bartenders though. All in all we are really happy with the service! read more

I got married 3 weeks ago and I'm still getting calls saying that the food was amazing !! I worked with frank and he is so nice to work with. The servers dress very nice and frank pays attention to detail. He took care of everything that day for Us he didn't want us to stress and we didn't at all . we had our wedding at my friends private estate and she told me that the next day it didn't even seem that there was a wedding there. Frank and his staff cleaned up everything .the food was so good , fresh and hot I'm Greek and we had to have some Greek items and I have to tell you I'm pretty picky and he did an awesome job. Schumann's catered our wedding at the end of March. Frank and Al Schumann are the owners and chefs for the catering business. Upon first speaking to Frank it was apparent that "business savvy" was not his forte. As Four Seasons was one of the more reasonably priced caterers for our venue, and reading from other reviews that the food is well worth it, we decided to go for a tasting. We were not disappointed! Each item was flavorful and beautiful. Frank was helpful in providing suggestions and was not overly pushy. Don't be put off by his gruff demeanor, he's a softie! At the wedding, the waitstaff was attentive and we did not worry about a thing. When serving dinner one of our guests commented on the small piece of seabass he received to his wife. The waiter overheard his comment and immediately went back into the kitchen and came out with a brand new plate with a bigger portion. Even to this day our friends still comment that our food was the best of all the weddings they have been to. read more

From the initial contact a year earlier up until the day of the wedding, he was there to help and give advice the whole time. Each time we met with him he took his time and explained everything very clearly as we had a lot of questions. Our reception was at the Kohl Mansion and luckily he knew the venue very well so he basically knew what would work based on his experience. Our guests loved the food, unfortunately I couldn't enjoy my food too much because I was so busy but the few bites I had were delicious!! Also, I would like to include one of the coordinators, Jenny in this review. I didn't meet her until the day of the wedding and I was extremely grateful she was there. There was an incident that happened during the reception that almost ruined the night where the photographer misplaced my wedding ring, but luckily the ring was found and we went on to have a perfect night. During this incident, not only were my guests looking for my ring but also the catering staff. They definitely went above and beyond. My husband and I are not from the Bay Area, though we have lived here for three years. Therefore, when we were married in August 2013 in San Francisco, many family members and friends from back home in New Mexico and Argentina were unable to attend. Therefore, we dreamt of having another ceremony/reception party to have as many friends and family as possible. However, I have an incredibly busy job and my husband has been finishing up grad school, so the idea of planning a wedding was daunting. Turns out we got a much later start on all the planning then is typically advised, but Frank Schumann and his wonderful staff were able to rise to the challenge like the pros that they are. We are a young couple just getting our feet on the ground, but Frank was able to tailor the perfect menu for our budget. Although our party was modest (yet beautiful!), Frank put out all the stops as if we were his only client, or part of his very own family. As a gay couple, we were obviously concerned that we would run into a nightmare scenario of mistreatment or judgement. However, after meeting Frank for the first time, it was blatantly clear that this man comes from a solid, cultured, no judgement and no nonsense background. Not once did we ever get a sense that our event meant any less to Frank than any other. Frank is super responsive via email, and incredibly flexible. He listens, but gives advice exactly when you need it (how much beer and wine to buy!!!?? How to arrange tables and decor!!??). Lastly and most importantly, these people can COOK! We had Pesto Salmon, Lemon and Rosemary Chicken Breast, Couscous and Greek Salad. Every soul at our party had nothing but rave reviews for our food and party in general. It was a true dream come true to see the faces of our beautiful friends and family from the Bay Area, back home, and around the globe; all under one beautiful roof at the Brazil Room in Berkeley's Tilden Park. If you like good food don't use these guys. They will promise you everything you want. When you go to a tasting not everything will be there and they will promise you the world exactly as you want it.. Do not think that if you are VERY specific and tell them multiple times they will get it right. They won't. The food is mediocre, as someone else said: amateurish. It's true, the catering portion will in all likelihood be at least 50% of your wedding budget. But to have an excellent catering experience doesn't mean your budget needs to balloon exponentially. We were lucky enough to spot Schumann's Four Seasons Catering from our venue's recommended vendor list. Frank (one of two brothers who own the business) is a highly experienced and competent caterer who clearly loves what he does, and importantly treats his crew well so they in turn do a good job for the guests. We took a liking to Frank the first time we met him at his offices/kitchen in Mountain View for the tasting (the fee was applied as a credit towards our final catering bill). Frank was happy to spend a couple hours with us, explaining various menu options and answering our questions until we were done around 9pm (we had to commute from SF after work one night). The food itself was quite good - we were most impressed with the array of hors d'oeuvres and the filet of Chilean sea bass with mango and papaya salsa. I would say the quality is one solid notch above that at a hotel banquet hall. For a menu of 6 passed hors d'oeuvres, 2 salads (with the best virgin olive oil/balsamic vinaigrette I've ever tasted), fresh fruit and cheese platter, dinner rolls, 2 entrees, 2 accompaniments, plus 3 dessert items (absolutely exquisite Venetian-style petit fours, tiramisu and fruit tarts) and coffee/tea service, we were charged about $35 per guest. We supplied our own beverages and alcohol, and Frank did not charge us any corkage fees. A month before the wedding, we realized that getting a wedding cake was not an option, and we asked Frank to create a tower of crème brulee tarts with different flavors and toppings (raspberry, strawberry, chocolate shavings, vanilla, etc), based on some pictures I found from a foodie magazine. He was able to replicate the designs, and did this for another $350 - and even decorated the three-tier stand with some leftover centerpiece flowers that I gave him, so it fit right in with the rest of the décor. The guests loved the generously-sized tarts, especially how different it was from traditional wedding cake. On top of arriving 2 hours early to set up our reception area with all the beautiful linens, china, glass- and silverware and centerpieces, and staying behind to break down and clean up for another hour, Frank and his crew took care to ensure all of our guests always had a full glass or could get second helpings of the food. The staff really brought a touch of class to the entire event. All together (food, hourly service, linens, crème brulee, meals for the DJ, photographer, waitstaff and bartender, plus taxes and 18% gratuity), it came out to about $80 per person. I'd say this is about mid-range pricing for an independent caterer (one not based at a chain hotel that can easily charge you $120+ per guest). When you first meet Frank (or his brother Al), don't be intimidated by the mess of papers, fabric and china samples strewn all over the office - there is a method to the madness, and in subsequent meetings, it became apparent that Frank doesn't overlook any details you may have discussed and amended multiple times by phone or email. That is a big plus in our book - that the vendor is highly flexible, doesn't have an attitude about adapting to the client's changing needs, and actually cares enough to remember all the changes. On top of it all, we never felt any sales pressure from Frank, just got the sense he loved to create fabulous menus for his clients. read more

We worked with Frank for our wedding. The guests were thrilled with the food; they were all happily full with food & drink - exactly as we wanted! Frank is a very kind, easy going guy who tries to accommodate you as much as possible. Everything ran very smoothly on the big day. Having delicious food was one of the top priorities for our wedding. Frank delivered that and so much more. We met with Frank three times before the wedding: 1) to discuss the menu items and table set-up, 2) delicious tasting of the salads, entrees, and sides, and 3) detailed walk-through at our venue, Piedmont Community Hall, to figure out where all the tables (reception, cake, coffee/tea) and wine/beer bar will be set up. Since my husband and I planned our wedding without a professional planner, Frank was one of our vendors who really helped us out in the process. He gave us advice on how a typical wedding day timeline looks like, from set-up to cleaning as well as the placement of certain tables, etc. Frank was very detail-oriented in his suggestions - from measuring out the size of his wine glasses, which I used as part of my wedding decor to figuring out where and when the sun will set, so it does not affect our food (it was an outdoor reception). He was prompt in responding to my phone calls and emails. I had specific ideas for how I wanted my tables to be set up, and he assisted with all of it. He asked me all the questions I never would have thought of - all because he's had so much experience with catering weddings, so that he can ensure that the cocktail hour, reception, and cake cutting can run smoothly throughout. Some of the other perks: no corkage or cake cutting fees; he provides his own utensils and plates; he orders beverage glasses for a small fee; and he helped us order all our linens from La Tavola for no additional charge. As for the food, he prepared some delicious hors d'oeuvres! What our guests loved most included a caprese salad with heirloom tomatoes, tri tip with chimichurri sauce, grilled salmon with lemon butter sage, and the wild mushroom risotto (oh that risotto was so good). We contacted a number of caterers in preparation for our daughter's wedding last July. She and her fiance wanted to have both their wedding and reception at home. We were thrilled but also committed to being able to be "guests" and not forced to run around handling/organizing things. Frank was AMAZING! He had wonderful ideas, was price contious, and incredibly helpful both ahead of time as well as the day and evening of the event. He came out to our home twice to help with the planning . He and his crew work incredibly hard and yet make it seem effortless. Their attention to detail is beyond compare. We got married in October 2016 at the Los Altos History Museum. Frank came highly recommended by the venue and was actually the only caterer we met with - I did a bunch of research on other caterers before meeting him but once we did, we knew he was the best choice. We would have hired him based on his experience and knowledge of the venue alone - he knew EVERYTHING there was to know about weddings at our venue, from where to position staff with appetizers so that all guests had equal access to how many heat lamps we'd need to make sure everyone stayed warm enough. But the food - wow! People are still reaching out to talk about the lamb rib appetizers, they were the best I've ever had anywhere, much less at a catered, outdoor wedding for 200! Frank made sure that our 3 entree options (NY steak with mashed potatoes and chimichurri, salmon with saffron risotto and mango salsa, and spinach ravioli) were unique and varied (not just the same plate with a different protein switched out). His team handled everything for us, from rentals to linens and a full bar set up (we provided the beverages, but he provided all the different types of glasses, ice, bartenders, etc.) His staff was attentive and there were SO MANY of them, we were never waiting for anything. He was professional and responsive, and extremely well-priced for the area and quality of the food and service. Al and Frank are amazing caterers- if you want a catering company with decades of experience- these are your guys. I'm convinced there is nothing they can't make. Their menu of options has a mind blowing number of choices. They catered our large wedding at Kohl Mansion. So many people complimented the food. I couldn't believe what a good deal this was. For what we paid, we got so much food. Our package included 6 different appetizers and a buffet with 2 mains, 2 salads and 4 sides. They were incredibly accommodating and worked with our dessert vendors. They helped us by providing the barware, bartenders and ice for the bar while we brought in all the alcohol. This helped us save a ton of money. One piece of feedback that I have for Four Seasons is that I thought the wait staff showed up a little late. Our wedding started at 4 and we already had guests milling about at 3:30. At 3:30 the waiters were showing up with uniforms in hand and I was worried that they weren't going to be set up in time. I think the set up was a bit rushed and hectic. Overall, I am very pleased with the job that Four Seasons did and would recommend them to anyone looking for a wedding caterer. read more

I would recommend Schummans Four Season Catering to anyone who was looking for an experienced caterer, and who didn't expect a lot of hand-holding long the planning process. We came across Schumanns Four Seasons catering in a somewhat random way, and based on a few recommendations on the internet, jumped in. We met with Frank a few times to discuss what we had in mind. My fiance and I were pretty loose in our needs, we really didn't have specific dishes or stipulations. We wanted to keep our costs down, and keep it somewhat simple. Frank worked with us on this, but a lot of the time we weren't really sure what was going on or how organized he was. We received a few quotes and such that had errors, which he was happy to correct. I didn't have a big problem with this, but if you are a control freak or high-maintenance, this might not work for you. Although we were a little confused along the way, in the end, it was clear that our worries were pointless, and Schummans pulled everything off without a hitch. There were so many things I hadn't thought of, that they just naturally took care of. On the day of our wedding, I had barely any interaction with them, they magically arrived, set things up in a beautiful way, and cleaned up afterwards. It was fantastic. One great thing about working with Schummans is that they will bring all the plates and such, and ice, and they don't charge a cake-cutting fee or any of that "add-on" stuff that always seems like a ripoff. You will know what you are being chrarged for--no sruprises! They also arranged all the rentals (tables, chairs, heaters) for us, which made my life WAY easier. Frank was able to suggest ways we could keep the costs down on rentals and such, so I was really glad to have his help on that. On the wedding day, I didn't spend much time with the caterer or staff, which is a result of the experience and professionalism they bring with all their years of experience. The staff was really friendly and helpful, and the food was great. I didn't eat much (distracted) but I have had many people approach me after the fact, even months later, telling me how much they liked the caterer and food. In short, I would definitely recommend Schumanns Four Seasons for anyone looking for a very experienced, low-key caterer with good food and very reasonable pricing, and especially if you are looking to get someone to help handle the other rentals. If you need someone really detail oriented and fastidious during the planning, they might worry you along the way, but the day-of performance is fantastic. read more

I used Four Seasons because they were the most reasonably priced caterer on my wedding venue's required caterer list. If I could go back and use any caterer I wanted, I would pick Four Seasons again. Frank was very helpful when I met with him. He went through all the details with me, many of which I hadn't thought of. I wish I could have chosen 2 caterers for our wedding, because even though ultimately my fiancé and I ended up choosing a friend of his family's to cater our wedding, the entire process of communicating and tasting with Schumann's was fantastic. Frank was prompt with communication and even allowed us to choose menu items before giving us a price quote so that we were able to get an accurate idea of cost off of things that we would actually like at the wedding. The food at the tasting was DELICIOUS and plentiful. They even offer a mashed potato bar, which is a unique touch. Frank sat with us for at least 45 minutes after the tasting giving us advice on how the timeline for our wedding would work, suggestions for layout, recommendations for the bar, etc. I will definitely consider using Schumann's for any future events and encourage all brides out there to look into them for your wedding! read more
