A serious gem of the neighborhood! You gotta love a simple menu, and a menu that offers great food at even better prices. There is ample parking around the building and it's very accessible from the road. Upon entry there weren't super clear directions about waiting for a host or seating yourself - this is very much a place of regulars so the need probably doesn't often occur to answer this question, although it did happen to us and the visitor in front of us haha. We were eventually greeted by the waitstaff and asked to find a seat. It's a fairly small dining room, maybe 6-8 tables(?) and a couple of horseshoe shaped bars to sit at right amongst the action of the open kitchen. They were quite full with only 1 table open at the time. Having a front row seat to it all was really cool! The menu had really great options without being overwhelming. They even has Sprite Zero so I couldn't have been happier. We ordered a double cheese burger, two sides of fries, and a double cheesesteak burger. This was essentially just a slightly larger and thicker burger. Both were excellent and were able to customise to our heart's delight! The fries were a little under seasoned for my liking, but salt and pepper were available. The ranch wasn't anything special, just premade from a pouch. The special of the day was a burger and cup of soup/chili, and I think we definitely were missing out there. It was super popular in the time we were there and the chili smelled incredible. And considering how hot the day was, it must have been really good for people to keep ordering it. When it came time to close out or check, we realised there was a "cash only" sign on the register. I'm usually really good about seeing these things ahead of time or looking for them on the door. So I apologise if it was posted upon entry, as well, but I did not see any signage for that other than at the register. Thankfully they do have an ATM on site inside if needed. The extra star here is for the many good experiences I've had in the past and good prices. Recently had a steak sandwich and chocolate malt. The bun was stale, the meat was cold, the malt was low on chocolate flavor and malt. Not the usual. This would have been nothing on it's own, everyone has an off day. The main event on this occasion was the rudeness with which I was greeted by one of the waitresses. It was a pretty busy lunchtime, and I hovered by the door -- having waited on my share of tables -- I know that sometimes on a busy day, waitresses prefer to let you know where to sit, rather than let you seat yourself, and I didn't want to step on anyone's toes. I held up one finger, to let her know I was by myself. "One what?" she asked me. I said 'for lunch?' She proceeded to make fun of me loudly, 'You know how this works, don't you? Have you been in a restaurant before? Have a seat.' I was stunned, and quickly took a seat. With all the choices to eat in Sheboygan, and close by, I should have just gone somewhere else. But how hard would it have been to say, 'Welcome to Shulz's! Sit anywhere you like!' Or just 'Anywhere's fine!' I guess she was embarassed that she didn't know what I meant at first when I indicated 'one.' Oh, brother, such fragility. To be fair -- the waitress who actually waited on me was very nice. Well, everyone has an off day. And by the way, the vibe here -- with such limited windows, and natural light, it's a little depressing and shady. Food is decent and service is fast. Decently priced too. In general, the food isn't something to write home about but it is good. There is something about the calmness of its atmosphere that is great beyond a typical McDonalds visit or even Culver's and for that, I love this place. read more

Ill never forgive my Wisconsin family for not taking me here sooner. I had the double cheese steak which is simply a bigger and better burger with cheese. I started with a side salad. Oddly the burger came out wrapped in paper and no plate. It didn't last long enough for me to contemplate why. Don't see the point in ordering anything else here but you do you. I was in Sheboygan for golf and wanted to try some local, authentic food. I have a motto I follow when I go somewhere new, if I recognize the name of the place, I don't eat there. Schulz's has been around for almost 60 years, but surprisingly only 23 reviews. But it was worth the gamble. I ordered the double cheese steak sandwich, potato salad and cheese curds. The cheese steak is not like a Philly cheese steak, but just a better quality burger. It was incredible. Chargrilled to perfection. Juicy. Delicious. The curds and the potato salad were equally amazing. I stayed behind and spoke to the owner and his daughter Carly. They are both beyond kind and just truly sweet people. Food was good but nothing extraordinary. If you're familiar with Kroll's in Green Bay, the food at Schulz's is similar. We would go back, sure, but only if we couldn't find somewhere else to eat and if we were childless for the meal. I would also say the staff wasn't super friendly; not rude by any means but I've definitely felt more welcome in other restaurants. OH HELL YES! This is why God made road trips. This nondescript boring little building on a curve in the road only attracted me due to the 1930's style art deco wall art. I stopped to take a picture and smelled the burgers. And the Lord smiled. I entered and found a classic old diner interior with crescent shaped counters and a gum chomping sweetheart of a waitress. Its cozy and inexpensive, but the food. OH THE FOOD. Grilled burgers that rank among the best I've ever had. EVER. I love, love, love the food here. Great chopped steak and cheese. The combination burger/brat patty is awesome. They also have the best ham, egg and cheese sandwich for $4!!!! The only downfall, and I keep repeating this on most of my reviews, no credit cards. People will spend more if you take credit cards. Charge a small fee if you have to or raise your prices just a little to compensate. But putting in an ATM that will end of costing me fees that is not the making it more appealing to do business with you. I'm really looking forward to going to Schultz's when we go back for a visit in June. I lived right behind the restaurant on 15th street since the 1940's. I use to just run across the RR tracks and walk up to the back. Took me two minutes. Back then Schultz's was operating out of a tiny trailer. I don't remember it having table service, only counter service. I believe brats ...they didn't have brat patties back then (blasphemy) only actually brats sold for a quarter on Sheboygan's famous hard roll. Wish now I would have taken a picture of the old Schultz's but pictures back then were expensive. I've lived in Arizona for almost 56 years and will be passing through the end of June. I hope the brats are still as good as I remember it. read more

I will preface this by saying, not only did I grow up in Sheboygan, but I also worked at Schultz's as a kid. I have traveled the country. I have lived in six states. I left Sheboygan when I was 17. I have fantasies of parking an RV in the Schultz's parking lot and just eating there till I die. When I worked there 1/2 of my check went to my tab. I want to address some of the critics now: Sarah O: This is a greasy spoon not a New York Five Star Experience. It's about indulging in flavor, not presentation. Close your eyes and open your mouth...unless you are going to bash us again. Taste it. A Sheboygan hard roll, can not be found or mimicked by any bakery around the country...I've looked. Schultz's to me is the HOLY GRAIL of food. It is in my plan to die in one of those booths. With a char-grilled brat or hamburger firmly planted in my stomach with a side of deep fried cheese curds. I hope Tammy, the owner, will remember me and bury me with butter soaked baked beans, and REAL ice cream shakes and malts. If you have never experienced Schultz's.....Sheboygan has some maritime history museums, interesting shipwrecks that have been brought up, and great fishing. It has a rich and thick German/Swedish founding, with plenty of entertainment, as there is a bar on every corner, and a church on the opposite corner. When I was a kid, going out to eat in the 1950's was a once-year birthday event. Schultz's (and Charcoal Inn) were our picks. LORDY, the buttery to-die-for burger tasty goodness is the same at Schultz's now that I'm back visiting, 40 years later. Unlike other parts of the country, the TRUE BURGER was, and still is, simply the bun, burger, pickles and grilled onions -- or "the works". None of that tomato and lettuce business. Of course, Sheboygan hardrolls of days past and present,still exist, (Johnston's bakery hardrolls are the best!) I hope they are around another 50 years. May 26 2013: Just read Sara O's negative review. Does not compute... This is a burger joint. There's nothing on the menu more than $6 as of 2012. How'd she spend $15 for one person? Says she's been there multiple times. Is she sure she has the right place? (Prices were so low, I tip at least 20% contrary to Sheboygan tipping custom at burger joints). read more

Schulz's Restaurant was a good place to eat a decade or two ago. The steak sandwiches have got smaller and the price has gone up. The malts have got smaller. The steak was over done. I ordered mine medium rare and got one medium well. The service was poor as there was not enough waitresses working in the restaurant. There used to be a pinball game in the restaurant and the game is no longer there. Parking is very limited as the lot is small. The french fries were a wide fry and is a skinny thing now. The Chile was a very well made chili with noodles. The chili is now a thin mixture and does not have any noodles. The taste lacked something to be desired. read more

Great place to go to for a quick bite to eat. There's a very homey, welcoming feel when you walk in and the staff is great. My coworkers and I came for lunch and I ordered the shaved barbecue pork sandwich with a side of cheese fries. The barbecue pork was great because most pulled pork sandwiches you have are usually drenched in sauce and pork is sliding out like the bun is on fire. The fries were great and I had one of the best root beer floats I've ever had. This place is definitely worth visiting again simply on the basis of trying out their cheese steak sandwich which my coworkers were raving about. Until next time Schulz's. Cheers. I have to admit... When I walked in, I wasn't expecting much. The restaurant reminded me of a tiny hole in the wall bar... but diner style. I have to say that this place would be the sheboygan experience. I was not born here, or raised here, heck I have only lived here a little over a year and I thought the second I walked in... this is sheboygan! cutesy little booths and old fashioned black and chrome-like bar stools that give it that diner feel reminds me that it has been around for a looooong time. And it has! since 1953 to be exact. Down south, we would mix Waffle House, Huddle House, and Denny's together. That would be Shultz' Restaurant. Family owned and run it is a great place to go if you are short on cash or just need something fast but don't want to go through a drive through fast food place. Malts, Milkshakes, burgers, deli sandwiches, shrimp, Hot Roast Beef sandwiches, Its just your momma made it! I enjoyed the Chicken Salad Sandwich which was pretty good, not the best I have ever had but it was just what I wanted. Something lite and simple. My man on the other hand ordered a double cheeseburger with french fries. The fries were great! the real skinny kind.. and everything is made fresh right in front of you because the kitchen IS the dining area. Everything was great. Service was great, the waitress could tell I had never been there before so she was great answering questions I had about the menu items. Everyone was very welcoming, even the guests ha! They all look at ya when ya walk in but that's OK I don't mind making an entrance! OR exit. :) I thought for SURE when I got the bill that it was wrong. There is no way that we got full and had good meals (the both of us) drinks included, for $15. It was correct, and I was pleased. The prices are ridiculously cheap at this Restaurant and we will definitely be heading back there again. :o) Thanks for reading!
