    Friday night Perch
    Steve G.

Hands down the best Friday Perch dinner in Sheboygan County! If you haven't tried it make a reservation this Friday night. Panko crust, lightly battered for a rich taste. Great tasting cole slaw and mashed potatoes instead of fries. Atmosphere is small, quaint yet refined.

The Horse and Plow is a great spot if you have a group or family where noise is not a bug but a feature. We came here on our second evening around 7:00 for dinner. Food: The menu has a good selection of beverages and pub-style food. There is an extensive list of whiskeys, including bourbon and rye, lots of beers, and some specialty cocktails. We settled on a draft beer and the Plum Crazy cocktail, which was super yummy. For food, they offer appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, and a fish fry. There is even a Wagyu flat iron steak if you are interested in paying $75. We decided on the Double Butter Smashburger with truffle fries and the Walleye Fish Fry. The burger was good, although it could have been cooked a bit more to create more caramelized edges. The bun was good, but a bit too much bread for me, so I ate it open-faced. The truffle fries were delicious and could have been a meal in themselves. The walleye was battered and breaded with good texture, and the fish was flaky. I felt it was a bit overcooked, and the last several bites were very tough. Service: We did not have a reservation, and there were no tables available when we arrived. We took a spot at the bar, where the bartender got us an order of drinks. The service, both at the bar and at the table, was efficient but not especially friendly or outgoing. The food came out nice and hot, waters were kept full, and the check arrived promptly after the meal was finished. For those looking for a pub experience, this is a good spot. However, being at the American Club, I think I was looking for more of an elevated experience. This felt more like a place for a quick meal than somewhere I would feel compelled to return to. Atmosphere: It is a pub, and that is exactly what you get. It was very noisy at times, especially as larger groups were enjoying themselves.

We went at 3 pm midweek and found they serve breakfast all day. It wasn't fantastic, but it was as good as I might expect from a Midwest "family" restaurant. It was very clean, the waitress was very friendly, it was bright and updated. The food came fast. I had eggs over easy, dry English muffin (they don't have homemade biscuits),bacon, and "American" potatoes (sliced, fried). Hubby had Wisconsin cheese omelet, hash browns, pancake, Everything arrived exactly as ordered (even the English muffin unbuttered!) The eggs were perfectly cooked, the bacon partly crisp/chewy, English muffin was better than most and did come dry and the potatoes were more greasy than I'd hoped but nicely crisped and still soft-about like my husband's hash browns- but I think better. (I ate every last piece). Hubby's omelette was nicely cooked with cheese melted- but boring! Pancake was good and hash browns were nicely crisped and about what you'd expect from a family restaurant. Up to pay at register, hubby spied desert case and waitress said the peanut butter/cheesecake pie on chocolate graham crust was "really good"!!! We sat back down and and she brought it quickly with two forks:) It probably is delicious to many people, guessing it is a mixture of cool whip and cream cheese and Jif, topped with box pudding and chocolate syrup on graham cracker mix crust, but this isn't my kind of thing. Would I go again. Sure. Am I excited to go again? Not really. But it met my expectations, and I wasn't sorry we went. I'm giving 4 stars because for what it was, it was fine. While not fun, spunky, or delicious, nothing was bad, grumpy, dirty, off-tasting, poorly cooked, etc. Plus, it needs a little boost.

We went for my mother's birthday and we had a lovely time. The ambiance is sublime, everything is clean and peaceful. The main level has a waterfall into a Venetian pool, loungers everywhere with fresh towels, infused water and small trail mix snacks. There are 2 saunas, a steam room, cold plunge pool, whirlpool, and ice room, and sleep room spread between two floors, all included if you purchase a service at the spa. Take advantage of the amenities and make a day of it. We stayed there for 6 hours and really felt we got our moneys worth. It's a great place to unplug and relax. Bring a book, order a glass of wine and relax on a lounger. Everything about the spa is elegant and refined. There are waitstaff there to take care of all of your needs and there is a cafe upstairs that has fine food if you're there long enough. I cannot recommend this place enough. The Immigrant taught me the expensive lesson that the middle of Wisconsin is for supper clubs and cheese curds. I've never walked out in the middle of a meal before, so thank you for providing that story to me. My wife and I booked a reservation on New Years Eve. They had a very expensive prix fixe menu, which I'd expect from a fine dining restaurant. I have no issues with a restaurant charging hundreds of dollars per person for a meal like this. But I do expect the service and food to be fantastic, which it was far from. -It took over a half an hour for us to get water at our table. Our drink orders were finally taken after that. -Our waiter went on and on about how the restaurant has been nominated for 12 James Beard awards and won 3. THIS IS NOT TRUE. As far as I can tell, the current chef has won a single James Beard award years ago at a different restaurant. None of the previous head chefs have, and the restaurant itself hasn't. -Also, a waiter telling you about all the awards the restaurant has won is the tackiest thing in the world. I'd expect better from a fine dining restaurant. After every course he was basically telling us that the food was SO GREAT. It was obnoxious. -The menu was set for 9 courses. After 2 hours, we had only received 5 of the courses, most of which were so so so gross. We were starving and left. -One course was a fingerling sweet potato, cooked, cut in half, with fish roe on top, and a smelly piece of seaweed as garnish/decoration. That's it. Or at least, that's what it tasted like. If they did anything else to it, I wouldn't know. What was the point of that dish? -Another was foie gras with caramelized white chocolate. How do those flavors go together AT ALL? Why would you serve them as one of the first two courses? And that white chocolate wasn't caramelized, so why did you say it was? -At one point we were served bread with a side of butter that had chopped up seaweed in it. What's the obsession with seaweed? It ruined that butter. Who wants the gross taste of fishy salt with their bread? - Raw scallops with cold horseradish sauce and dill. It tastes like it sounds. Listen, I'm no stranger to fine dining. We expected the food to be edible, the service to be prompt, and the experience to be positive. The Immigrant failed on all fronts, ultimately leading to us ending our stay at The American Inn. But I guess the ambience had a certain charm to it. One star.
