While he was initially usually attentive, over time it often took several days for calls and emails to be returned, which made navigating our coverage increasingly stressful. I had shared my health issues with Ben so he was aware of my condition, which made timely and clear communication especially important. Despite this, he consistently preferred phone conversations over providing written responses to important insurance questions. We explained that having information in writing was essential for us to reference later, but this request was not accommodated. This left us feeling uncertain and raised concerns about why written communication was avoided. The challenges became even more apparent as my husband's coverage grew more complex. Instead of guiding us directly, Ben encouraged us to contact the insurance company ourselves. Without a full understanding of the intricacies of the plans, this process became frustrating, time-consuming, and stressful, especially since we had engaged an insurance representative specifically to help navigate these issues. I was referred to Stephen Cummins. I needed direction regarding the best gap and drug plans regarding Medicare. I was advised to use Well Care for my prescription drug plan. What a nightmare!!! I have had one problem after another with this drug plan. Two cases filed with the Better Business Bureau and a formal complaint with Medicare. I was trying to figure out what went wrong when I tried to get my son a policy on Covered California, and I finally gave up and called one of the agents Covered California listed as approved. Matthew Schulte answered the phone for his associate who had the day off, and said he would be glad to help -- and he did, big time. (Matthew usually handles groups, not individual, but didn't want me to have to wait till his associate returned after the holiday weekend.) By the end of a 20 minute call I had a good policy lined up and he called Blue Shield while I was on the phone to confirm he could get the start date to be June 1 (I called after the 15th of the month - which usually would mean waiting till July.) He also explained what went wrong with Covered California - the salary I guesstimated qualified for Medi-Cal and once Covered Cal puts you in the Medi-Cal category, apparently it's really hard to get out and you can't sign up for a Covered Cal policy, even if you're willing to pay the extra cost & forgo Medical-Cal. But the independent policy Matthew suggested (he gave me 4 to choose from - emailed me the quote WHILE we were on the call) seems totally fine. ALSO, Matthew was just the nicest man and very patient with my questions. I actually enjoyed talking with him. I highly recommend!! read more
