Outdoor tasting area was nice. Appeared to be a wine cave behind it, but due to Covid-19 restrictions, all inside activities were off.

Nice little winery sitting up on the hillside with views of the vineyards and valley below. $30/guest for a 5 flight tasting (waived with any 2 bottle purchase). SERVICE: Brendon poured for us and service was okay, but nothing special. Due to Covid restrictions, we sat outside on a nice, little patio area, however we weren't able to go into what appeared to be a wine cave (I'm guessing it was, because no one really told us much about the winery). WINES: As mentioned, our tasting included 5 pours: a 2017 Sparkling Pinot Noir, a 2017 Heritage Reserve Chardonnay, a 2018 Estate Chardonnay (extra pour; not on the menu), two 2018 Pinot Noirs, one Estate and one from Carneros, and finally a 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon. Schug's wines seemed to be well made, but tend to be on the light, dry/acidic side. Not really our favorites. They were okay, but nothing I would say "wow" about. That being said, we did take 2 bottles, the Estate Chardonnay and the Carneros Pinot Noir. I always state that wines are very subjective to an individual's taste, so if you're into lighter, stainless steel aged, acidic wines, this might be the place for you. Worth a try and the grounds and views are beautiful.

This is an awesome wine tasting experience! First, it's off the beaten path - this is not a winery sitting next to the highway like most of the places in Sonoma. You pull off on a quiet country road and drive by farms as you ascend to the winery and tasting room on a hill overlooking Sonoma with beautiful views. We stopped by on a co,d rainy day in January, and were welcomed by Dawn. The flight is typically a white or two and then Pinot noirs for which Schug is well known. I highly recommend this place for wine tasting. All the wines were excellent, and we went home with some sparkling rose and Pinot noir. We will be back!

We were visiting Sonoma wine country for the first time and picked Schug for tasting because of the German roots of the owners. The tasting costs 35 dollars and if you buy two bottles, they will waive one of the tasting fees. The tasting features 5 wines and it has a good variety of reds, whites and rose. We really enjoyed both, the bubbly and regular Savingnon Blanc and got two bottles to go. Our sommelier was incredible and very helpful throughout our experience.

Friends and I just did a quick stop. We took some pictures and walked in. It's a tiny place with just a small tasting bar. I didn't see a bathroom. There is a loud buzzing sound of cars that you can hear from the winery. Free tastings, but since my friends don't drink I didn't want to try them by myself. Will return with the hubby next time. Two friendly people inside it seems anyways. Hrs: 10-5

Very nice wines here. Known for their Pinot Noir, their white wine selections are good to. The tasting room is a bit small but enough space for a couple groups. Can get a little loud. If you're the only group, it's a nice experience. The staff is very friendly. Wouldn't mind coming back to try out the wines again. Tasting fee is $5, but is waved if you purchase a bottle (which we did) :)

This was the first winery we stopped at in Sonoma because I seen the check in offer on Yelp. Not really much to see here. the tasting room Is pretty small can probably can accommodate maybe six people at the most. As for the property I didn't really get a chance to look around there. We did the $10 tasting of 5 wines and none of the where good out of all 5 and the wine was pretty expensive,it reminded me of the stuff they sell at Bevmo buy one and get the second bottle for 5 cents. Service was get here the guy guy that served us was nice but the wine just did not do it for us. Sorry Srhug Carneros Estae.

Such a great winery to stop at! Val was our hostess and made it a wonderful experience. The courtyard was super cute and had a great view. The wine was amazing and fairly priced.

The Good: + The tasting offered a bunch of wines and two chowders which was a nice changeup (from drinking all day). + A couple who produces American Extra Virgin Olive Oil (please I'm not Rachael Ray) had a little booth in the back. We ended up buying a bottle (but no wine - isn't it ironic). + Close to SF and was a quick drive. The Bad: - The tasting we attended coincided with another special event and therefore crowded, seemed like a meat market. The Ugly: -- Deemed the "Pinot Noir Specialists" I was expecting to taste a serious showcase of wines. The tasting only had one. I wasn't moved and utterly disappointed (I highly anticipated this visit). IFHTP 1

Amazing outdoor space. Tasting delivered to your umbrella'd patio table or wooden lawn chair. Quiet, intimate and good wines! Its 75 percent ambience at these places, all the wines are delicious

Ask the Community - Schug Winery

Is the tasting room and/or grounds dog-friendly?

Hello! Our general, indoor tasting room is only open to service animals due to size constraints. However, our outdoor courtyard (open Thursday - Sunday, Memorial day through October) is dog friendly!

Can you get to the barrel room on a self guided tour? :)

Hi Christine! The self guided vineyard tour is the outside of the property and vineyard. You have to book a cave tour in order to go inside the winery and caves. We have our annual Oktoberfest on 9/30 and you will be able to tour most of the caves…

One detail I especially loved is that they age their wines in Hungarian oak, which gives them something a little different and special. Gwen, the tasting room manager, was fantastic. She was welcoming, knowledgeable, and really took the time to tell us the story behind the wines and Obsidian. The tasting room has only been at this location for about two years, but it feels like one of those Sonoma spots you're glad you discovered. The space itself is small, modern, relaxed, and friendly. There's outdoor seating for beautiful Sonoma days, but if it's really hot, I recommend sitting inside and enjoying the AC. Definitely worth seeking out if you're around Sonoma Square. We were first introduced to them back when they had their tasting room at Cornerstone Gardens in Sonoma. The setting there was incredibly welcoming--especially with our three young kids at the time--and between the atmosphere and the wines, we were hooked from the start. The wines are consistently outstanding. Their Lake County lineup really stands out, and the Volcanic Estate Cabernet has been a go-to in our house for years--it's always been reasonably priced and somehow overdelivers every single time we open a bottle. On the other end of the spectrum, the Half Mile is more of a special occasion wine for us, and it never disappoints. Winemaker Alex clearly knows what he's doing--his reds are fantastic across the board. The Cabernet, Petit Verdot, and Malbec from that volcanic Lake County fruit are bold, expressive, and incredibly well made. We've been wine club members for years now, which says a lot. Great wines, great people, and a place that's been part of our family's wine journey for a long time. Highly recommend.
