We figured Snow would recommend an oral surgeon, since he doesn't specialize in wisdom teeth, but he says he would do it. The strange thing is that Snow recommended that she get bone grafts in conjunction with the wisdom teeth extraction. I asked why, they didn't explain why very well...so I Googled bone grafts, it says that only in special cases are bone grafts needed, that they are not at all common. We went to a real oral surgeon. They said that it was odd that Snow recommended bone grafts, that they were completely not needed. She just had her teeth removed today at the certified oral surgeon, everything went well, she had a pretty mild case. Thank gosh we didn't take Snow's advice. It's one thing to upsell things at a retail store, but to recommend a major medical procedure for a teen?

He's professional, kind, and always makes sure I feel comfortable. What I love most is that he only recommends treatment that's truly needed. I never feel like the office is trying to sell me on something. When Dr. Fruin says it's time for a filling or a night guard, I know it's for my benefit. I like to stay on top of cleanings every 3 months, and while I was originally booked out, the office added me to their waitlist. Since being on the list, they had a cancellation and got me in sooner, which I really appreciated. They're great about communicating and making it easy to stay on track. I've had cleanings with Sarah in the past and most recently with Courtney, and both of them were amazing, so thorough and gentle, and they make the whole appointment stress-free. Overall, Dr. Fruin and his team go above and beyond. Even without in-network coverage, it's worth every visit for the honesty, care, and professionalism they provide. I couldn't recommend them more!

But let me respond to what she referred to as "lack of research" which has no relevance to my post. What research should I do when I receive an abrupt email and "text" telling me that my family's dental insurance is no longer accepted, an insurance we have had for 15 years. No warning. No empathy. Just an abrupt email and text message sort of like "surprise" we are no longer accepting Delta Dental - here are our rates of you want to pay cash. The staff there have always been curt, if not rude and I will add that to the lack of empathy for a family of six when you call (in advance) to change and appointment because things change, you get a rude response from a receptionist/ clerk telling you that they can't get you in for 6-7 months. What business does that?? Usually most businesses, especially when you as the consumer have the courtesy to call them in advance, will try to work out something with you. Instead you get a response "sorry, the doctor is busy or our specialists are jam packed-we can't accommodate changes. There is a better way to manage this. Again, I ask, what research needs to be done? This message came to me from the Doc's office that "we are no longer accepting Delta Dental". This is not political and not about the ridiculousness of insurance in this country. This is not about the care we received (other than the receptionists). The care was good. This post is about how one has chosen to approach his business and customers. There is and was a better way to approach this, but it is how he has chosen to run his business. I don't have to agree with it and he doesn't have to agree with me.

If you go through my old posts on Yelp, I've been looking for a new dentist since I moved to San Diego with no luck thus far. I thought I found a great dentist in Sorrento Valley, but they didn't deep clean my teeth as much as I had originally hoped. My gums were starting to ache and hurt after 2 months of my appointment with them. :( So, now that my husband and I have moved farther up, I thought I would look for another dentist again. There were a few in Carlsbad that I was interested in reaching out to, but they either couldn't fit me into their schedules or (for one place) they couldn't find my insurance no matter what information I gave them lol. I came across Dr. Chu's office on Yelp and thought I would give him a whirl. Called and spoke with a very sweet woman (Bobby/Bobbi) on the phone. She was so kind hearted, professional, and incredibly upbeat. Loved speaking with her as she made scheduling an appointment and getting my insurance such a cinch. When the time arrived for my appointment (about 2 weeks or so after our phone call), I came to the office early. It's located in a shopping plaza in Carlsbad, but was very easy to find. There's an ample amount of parking and the office is very clean and put together. I checked in with Bobbi, got my paperwork, and started on that. After I turned it in, I only had to wait about 5-10min before I was introduced to my hygienist, Aurora. Aurora is a total sweetheart. I think the entire staff at Dr. Chu's office is seriously amazing. She was so professional, so polite, and so interesting to talk to. I never felt like there was an awkward moment between us and it seriously felt like I had been her friend for years. She (just like everyone else!) was so easy to talk to - which is absolutely crazy to be honest! Aurora went over things she was noticing with my teeth, areas that she noticed there was more inflammation, etc. She was NOT harsh or mean about any of these things and even gave me tips and advice on how to better reach the back teeth for flossing, etc. Great bed side manner. She was also very, VERY meticulous when cleaning my teeth. This was my first appointment, so I knew we were going to take a bit and I was ok with that. She very carefully went over each tooth, scraping and removing plaque, and was incredibly thorough while doing so. My teeth felt so freakin' smooth and clean (and still do!) after my appointment. She would discuss what she was doing, answer any questions I had, and did an absolutely amazing job. I loved her and I hope she never leaves lol. After Aurora was done cleaning, I met with Dr. Chu since I was a new patient. Dr. Chu is a busy guy, so it took a little bit before he came to look at my x-rays, but... again, this was my first visit and I didn't have anywhere to be so I didn't care at all lol. The office was POPPIN' when I was there (every room and hygienist was busy as hell and there were several people in the waiting room), so I'm not surprised it took him 10 min to finally get to me. Dr. Chu is also professional and friendly. He went over my teeth, said he didn't see any cavities, but did note that he was concerned about one of my fillings that appeared to have broken or fallen out and wanted to get it fixed. He did NOT push to get it fixed ASAP or try to sell me anything. He said we could easily take care of it the next time I came in for my next cleaning. Other dentists I have been to in San Diego would have immediately pushed me to take care of it right then and there, but Dr. Chu didn't do that at all. He was very personable and it's very obvious that he takes his job and clients seriously. Why can't all dentists be like Dr. Chu and his team!?!?!? Overall, I had a great experience. My teeth still feel spectacular a week later and I have already booked my next appointment with them in 6 months. Highly recommend Dr. Chu!

I've spent a lifetime being fearful of Dennis and for once in my life I am not afraid if you have dental fears and are nervous and scared, and therefore you put off your dentistry that needs to happen for your teeth don't do it, see he is the best dentist I've known in 56 years. I'm very grateful to him and in particular to Erin who is the dental hygienist who sees me every four months I purposely go more often so that there's any issues there handled they've taught me how to brush floss effectively.

I have United Healthcare Medicare insurance for medical and it includes a UHC Dental Discount plan. I called local dentists listed on the plan until I found one who could see me. He was horrible, a total scam artist. He said I needed to have the tooth pulled, which I had expected, and a bone graft and he could do it that day for $2848 with no sedation. I am extremely dentist-phobic and wanted sedation and Dr Scam Artist said that would cost $5581. When I got home I logged onto Nextdoor, the neighborhood app, and asked if these were reasonable prices and if not, who people would recommend to pull my tooth. Several people recommended Dr Raymond Ngo so I called his office. Haylee explained his pricing and answered all my questions. The removal and bone graft cost $1100, complete sedation was $980, and Dr Ngo could see me the next day. I made the appointment and I am so glad I did. I got there early because we didn't know how long the drive would take, but Haylee signed me in and the tech took me back for x-rays. Dr Ngo came in a short time later, made sure I understood everything and had no questions, and a few minutes later he said he had the IV needle in my vein and asked if I was feeling groggy. I said no, not yet, and the next thing I knew I was waking up and everything was finished. I was so relieved! My antibiotic and pain meds were waiting at the drugstore near home. I took the antibiotics for the infection, but I never had any pain, fever, or swelling. Dr Ngo called me the next morning to make sure everything was okay, even though he was leaving for an out-of-state vacation!
