Overpriced. He is considered a "premier" provider, and he charges premier prices. Recommend you get other estimates before committing to expensive dental work such as new or replacement crowns. I was provided an estimate in advance by his employee which was less than half what he charged me. I was also advised by Dr Knutzen to pay in full before I left. I've never before experienced "bait and switch" pricing nor been rudely told to pay in full same day as service. His work was acceptable as I have not experienced problems with the replacement crowns. Just very disappointing to have gotten an estimate and had to pay more than double. Recommend you get an estimate in writing! He is untrustworthy. read more

I've been going here for 15+yrs. He's a great doctor, patient and explains everything he's doing. Pros: Patient and detailed; never judge, even when you've ignored your teeth for years. Also had an old silver filling just replaced, he's got the numbing down as I never felt the needle, he went very slow. Cons: really can't think of anything. I love the work Dr. Knudsen does. He really has high standards for his staff and we have been going there for years. My daughter has Down Syndrome and he personally cleaned her teeth and educated her on the process and I was able to graduate her from a pediatric dentist to an adult one (she was 16). He has done 3 of my crowns and they have been perfect. I didn't have any issues at all. Even the temporary crowns were supreme quality. I do appreciate that the office doesn't try to sell me things or solicit for "stuff", such as whitening or other cosmetic things. They are also efficient and I am called on time and out without any unnecessary waiting in between seeing the hygienist and Dr. Knudsen. read more

I've always liked going here. The hygienists are thorough with their cleanings and on top of their game. I specifically like that they do deep cleanings with scaling, where this wasn't offered at other offices I've gone to in years prior. They're attentive to your concerns. I had bonding done here and it fell off 3 months later. I asked for them to fix it and they said they would call me back. I left two messages and never heard from them. I had a balance of $300 and they called me for that. I refused to pay till the tooth was fixed so they sent my bill to collections. I had to pay another very reputable dentist to fix the poor work done here. The new dentist said the bonding fell off due to bad bonding quality. They never tried to make it right. read more

He told me that I needed a root canal I went to another dentist to get a second opinion he said there's absolutely nothing wrong with your tooth. so, shame on this doctor for trying to sell services that does not need to be done. I hate going to the dentist. Everyone hates going to the dentist. Why anyone would want to be a dentist or dental hygienist or even work within 100 yards of a dentist's office baffles me. But sometimes you just gotta go get it done. And when it's that time of year, THIS is the place to go. Why this will be the best trip you've ever taken to the dentist: 1. Working in a dentist office definitely wouldn't make ME happy, but it sure seems to put the staff there in a good mood. Everyone is SO friendly, from the receptionists to hygienists to Dr. Knutzen himself. 2. The building is somewhat new, so the disgusting smell of dentistry hasn't had a chance to seep into the walls yet. 3. FINALLY, a doctor's office that subscribes to more than Family Circle and Highlights. It's so much more pleasant to pass the time with Cosmopolitan. 4. And to be clear, I've only had to pass time in the waiting room once and it was just because I showed up 30 minutes early that day. They seem to be very much on schedule and waiting doesn't seem to be the norm. 5. Equipment is nice, new, and clean looking. Chairs are at least 50% more comfortable than the typical dentist chair. 6. This might be the dentist standard and I've just been visiting ghetto offices my whole life, but I thought it was pretty awesome that they drew up a quote for services on the spot for me. It broke down each of the services they recommended and detailed how much it would cost, including what portion my insurance would cover. It was really nice to come back for fillings and know EXACTLY how much it was going to cost me! 7. There are a disproportionate number of attractive people working there. That's not really a perk, just an observation. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Knutzen's office. I'm so happy to have found it (thank you Yelp!). I was unfortunately recommended to this dentist. I knew I had a lot of work to be done. But I have a very good PPO dental plan through Guardian. This dentist, at the time, was in the Preferred Guardian Network, meaning there are pricing guidelines they must follow for people with Guardian dental plans. They did not follow these guidelines. They justified it in one case by stating it was because they do the "white" fillings and not the silver. Because my mouth was getting in shape, I blew it off. They insist you come in for cleanings ever 3 months, when insurance only covers 1 visit every 6 months. Each time I've had to pay out of pocket for my dental cleanings, the charges have been different. My most recent visit a few weeks ago was supposed to be covered in full by my insurance in full. I was even told that in writing by the dentist. I paid almost $200 out of pocket for my last cleaning visit. They sent me a bill in the mail for another $100. I asked what the charge was for and I received a response along the likes of "oops we assumed it was covered so you're screwed". I'm insulted that this office has treated me like a money tree. I trusted them with my care and I feel like I have been ripped off left and right. The reason I am willing to give an extra star is because of my hygienist. She was very thorough and sweet. I will def miss her. The staff is very nice, but I believe this is how they pull you in. Please submit claims to our insurance prior to having work done. And only go for cleanings for as many times as you insurance allows. read more

I came to Dr. Knutzen's office after feeling I needed a second opinion on a problem I was having. His staff was warm and very accommodating, the office was clean and professional, and everyone seemed caring and competent. Dr. Knutzen explained to me that the problem I was having stemmed from "rushed" dental work and that I did not need a crown as I was told by my last dentist. He saved me a ton of money and fixed the problem. By far the best dentist I have been to, great job. read more

It's hard on this review. It was a weird first impression, that lelevated to a super positive two year run because of the really awesome office manager. Now the whole staff has turned over and things just are weird- now pushing cosmetic dentistry, ignoring legit insurance coverage rules, and hygienists are just negative and seem to be intentionally painful. I like Dr. Knutzen, but don't care for his assistant, Lauren She's not very attentive in times and can have an attitude. She's not as friendly, gentle and caring as other dental assistants I've had at other dental practices. Dr. Knutzen is very nice and does a good job. She's left me drooling at times, and I always have to ask for more suction rather than her seeing I need it. She leaves the room while doing impressions, leaving patients drooling with no suction, no napkin or anything. When I've had impressions taken at other dentists, the assistants will stay there near me an insure their patient is comfortable and has everything they need. She does not. I'm not sure I'm willing to continue seeing Dr. Knutzen because of her. read more

Unfortunately, I could NEVER recommend thisdental office. I joined New Dental Choice to save money, and they were on the approved list. I needed a cleaning and I was told the cost would be $70 when I scheduled my appointment. No one discussed any other costs with me. When it came time to pay, I was told I owed $140, not $70! I had to pay for x-rays (this was not discussed on the phone) AND I had to pay for the 3 minute visit with Dr. Knutzen "because I was a new patient" (also not mentioned when I scheduled my appointment). I was very upset and didn't want to pay the other charges. The result?? I was left in the lurch- I need a crown, but they don't want me as a patient. I called to schedule my next appointment 4 weeks later, and the office manager told me that I "was not a good fit" for them and I should" look for another dentist"! So, I have to start with someone new. I have never had an experience like this with any other professionals I have ever dealt with, and I have had extensive dental work done by many dentists from NYC to SF to Carlsbad.. Go elsewhere or the same thing could happen to you! read more

We picked this Dentist Office based on Yelp reviews, but were so disappointed with the patient services. First making appointment with this dentist is not easy. After 3 months waiting for first visit, my husband was confirmed a few days beforehand. But early morning around 7.30am on the day of appointment , they called and left message saying call back before 9 am or your appointment will be cancelled. So he called back just before 9 AM but it had been already CANCELLED and given to someone else. He was told the NEXT AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT IS ANOTHER 3 MONTHS WAIT!!! I'm a recent patient of Dr. Knutzen after my co-worker highly recommended him and I am a new fan. Marcia was my dental hygienist and she was really amazing. Getting your teeth cleaned is never pleasant but she was very patient with me and even put vaseline on my lips so that they wouldn't get chapped. The staff are all super friendly, especially the receptionist who made me an appointment the very next day I called. My interaction with Dr. Knutzen was brief but I'm sure that I'll be wowed with him soon enough. As dorky as this sounds, I'm actually looking forward to my next appointment! read more

I needed a new dentist and did a lot of research on Yelp and other sites. Still, it always feels like gambling to pick a really good dentist (, or any type of doctors) after I had some terrible dental experience in the past. But I am lucky this time to find Dr. Jeff Knutzen. His skills are amazing. His approach is gentle and cautious. I have all my old cavities refilled by him. He is accurate and efficient. There is no pain or sensitivity issues AT ALL on any of the teeth ( I had bad experience with filling cavity before) ! I can tell Dr. Jeff Knutzen really knows what he does. Also, the oral surgeon he recommended for my husband is exceptional and extremely thorough. His in-house dental hygienist is also professional, caring, and did a great job. Dr. Knutzen is an Excellent Dentist! Our entire family, including 2 teens, have been going to this office since they opened a few years ago. The office is new and has state of the art equipment. We have needed many different services, including cleanings, crowns and fillings. Each of these dental services were done well and have been trouble free. Our son has needed cosmetic work several times (chipped teeth and more work in conjunction with braces), and each time Dr. Knutzen's work has been exceptional - his teeth look great. We have recommended this office to several friends and their feedback has been positive as well. We were new to the area and looking for a dentist for myself, my son and my husband. I was the first to go to Dr. Knutzen and after a cleaning and consultation I was told I needed a mouth guard to stop the grinding of my teeth. Next my son, who is 21, went and after his cleaning and consultation was told he needed a mouth guard for the grinding of his teeth. I felt they were really pushing mouth guards, something I had never been told by any other dentist. Next my husband went and was told he needed all kinds of work on his teeth and gums. He was not happy and decided to return to our old dentist in Orange County. My husband never saw Dr. Knutzen, during his entire appointment. You get little to no time with the dentist and most of the work and recommendations come from his assistants. His office manager is very curt and dismissive and there is an attitude that they really don't need your business. We will keep looking. read more

I am extremely disappointed by this office!!! I went in for a cleaning back in December, and was told I needed to get some deep cleaning done under my gums (which I was expecting). When I made my appointments, I told them it was extremely difficult to come in anytime before 3:30pm. They assured me this was not a problem, but to go ahead and schedule an appointment for 2:30 and they would call me once they had a cancellation. Low and behold, they called me 2 1/2 months later the day before my scheduled appointment to tell me they didn't have any cancellations and I needed to come in at 2:30. When I told them I was unable to be there due to work commitments, they immediately told me I should find another dental office. I just had some cosmetic dental work completed today and Dr. Knutzen is FANTASTIC. I don't think 5 stars are enough. He is very gentle and detail oriented. The entire process was a wonderful experience and the end results makes me want to smile, and smile and smile some more.
