I made them aware that I have a pre-existing medical condition that makes x-rays a medical concern. They manipulated me into getting the full "18" X-rays or waist a week long wait and 40 minute drive to their office. After the visit, they told me I had to sign and commit to doing 2 pages of extra work right then and there... including $7500 for Invisalign! I told them I needed to review the paperwork before I committed to anything extra. They were aware that I needed a rush job on my cap because my temporary and that was the reason why I was in their office. Two days later, (today) I called to confirm they had sent off the approval for my cap. Office manager Nova said they had not sent my cap off for approval, that I had to approve all of the xtra work at the same time! I said what?! There's no way. She said, that's denta-cal policies. I said, that's bullshit... (There's no way I have to commit to doing all that work to get my cap!) Then "Nova" plays "victim" after I said it was "BS" that denta-cal requires I have all the work done, in order to get my cap. When I refused to approve the other treatments and insisted that she only get approval for my cap, she said she will send my x-rays to me and I can find another office. I called denta-cal and they stated to me, her assertion is not true. Encinitas Dental Wellness pressured me into have extra work done and withheld an emergency treatment to blackmail and leverage me into accepting thousands of dollars including $7500 for Invisalign. I believe Encinitas Dental wellness is running a medi-cal denta-cal scam. Dentists like this, running a bullying blackmail scheme, increases costs for all Californians. I will be filing a complaint with denta-cal, The California Dental Board and speaking with an attorney about Breach of contract and medical malpractice.

If you go through my old posts on Yelp, I've been looking for a new dentist since I moved to San Diego with no luck thus far. I thought I found a great dentist in Sorrento Valley, but they didn't deep clean my teeth as much as I had originally hoped. My gums were starting to ache and hurt after 2 months of my appointment with them. :( So, now that my husband and I have moved farther up, I thought I would look for another dentist again. There were a few in Carlsbad that I was interested in reaching out to, but they either couldn't fit me into their schedules or (for one place) they couldn't find my insurance no matter what information I gave them lol. I came across Dr. Chu's office on Yelp and thought I would give him a whirl. Called and spoke with a very sweet woman (Bobby/Bobbi) on the phone. She was so kind hearted, professional, and incredibly upbeat. Loved speaking with her as she made scheduling an appointment and getting my insurance such a cinch. When the time arrived for my appointment (about 2 weeks or so after our phone call), I came to the office early. It's located in a shopping plaza in Carlsbad, but was very easy to find. There's an ample amount of parking and the office is very clean and put together. I checked in with Bobbi, got my paperwork, and started on that. After I turned it in, I only had to wait about 5-10min before I was introduced to my hygienist, Aurora. Aurora is a total sweetheart. I think the entire staff at Dr. Chu's office is seriously amazing. She was so professional, so polite, and so interesting to talk to. I never felt like there was an awkward moment between us and it seriously felt like I had been her friend for years. She (just like everyone else!) was so easy to talk to - which is absolutely crazy to be honest! Aurora went over things she was noticing with my teeth, areas that she noticed there was more inflammation, etc. She was NOT harsh or mean about any of these things and even gave me tips and advice on how to better reach the back teeth for flossing, etc. Great bed side manner. She was also very, VERY meticulous when cleaning my teeth. This was my first appointment, so I knew we were going to take a bit and I was ok with that. She very carefully went over each tooth, scraping and removing plaque, and was incredibly thorough while doing so. My teeth felt so freakin' smooth and clean (and still do!) after my appointment. She would discuss what she was doing, answer any questions I had, and did an absolutely amazing job. I loved her and I hope she never leaves lol. After Aurora was done cleaning, I met with Dr. Chu since I was a new patient. Dr. Chu is a busy guy, so it took a little bit before he came to look at my x-rays, but... again, this was my first visit and I didn't have anywhere to be so I didn't care at all lol. The office was POPPIN' when I was there (every room and hygienist was busy as hell and there were several people in the waiting room), so I'm not surprised it took him 10 min to finally get to me. Dr. Chu is also professional and friendly. He went over my teeth, said he didn't see any cavities, but did note that he was concerned about one of my fillings that appeared to have broken or fallen out and wanted to get it fixed. He did NOT push to get it fixed ASAP or try to sell me anything. He said we could easily take care of it the next time I came in for my next cleaning. Other dentists I have been to in San Diego would have immediately pushed me to take care of it right then and there, but Dr. Chu didn't do that at all. He was very personable and it's very obvious that he takes his job and clients seriously. Why can't all dentists be like Dr. Chu and his team!?!?!? Overall, I had a great experience. A crown came off my molar a few weeks ago, but I had lost my dental insurance a couple of years ago…read moreso I didn't have a trusted dentist to go to. I have United Healthcare Medicare insurance for medical and it includes a UHC Dental Discount plan. I called local dentists listed on the plan until I found one who could see me. He was horrible, a total scam artist. He said I needed to have the tooth pulled, which I had expected, and a bone graft and he could do it that day for $2848 with no sedation. I am extremely dentist-phobic and wanted sedation and Dr Scam Artist said that would cost $5581. When I got home I logged onto Nextdoor, the neighborhood app, and asked if these were reasonable prices and if not, who people would recommend to pull my tooth. Several people recommended Dr Raymond Ngo so I called his office. Haylee explained his pricing and answered all my questions. The removal and bone graft cost $1100, complete sedation was $980, and Dr Ngo could see me the next day. I made the appointment and I am so glad I did. I got there early because we didn't know how long the drive would take, but Haylee signed me in and the tech took me back for x-rays. Dr Ngo came in a short time later, made sure I understood everything and had no questions, and a few minutes later he said he had the IV needle in my vein and asked if I was feeling groggy. I said no, not yet, and the next thing I knew I was waking up and everything was finished. I was so relieved! My antibiotic and pain meds were waiting at the drugstore near home. I took the antibiotics for the infection, but I never had any pain, fever, or swelling. Dr Ngo called me the next morning to make sure everything was okay, even though he was leaving for an out-of-state vacation! I haven't ever had a cavity while coming here religiously (every 6 mos) for the past 4 years. My daughter started going there and is always so happy after her appointments. No one is happy, after the dentist, right? So, I go see the AMAZING Dr. Snow. I deliberately didn't tell him what Dr. Chin had diagnosed so he could perform an unbiased evaluation. Dr. Snow's finding? Zero leakage. All I actually needed was a standard filling. When I told him what she recommended, he said emphatically, "not needed." I hate writing negative reviews, but patients should be aware of excessive treatment recommendations and inflated billing at this office. Get a second opinion before committing to major work here. Dr. Snow is around the corner. He is a surgeon too, so he doesn't need to rack up care and overcharge because his practice has many facets to it. His staff is amazing. My mom is going to start seeing him too. There is always good to be found. So thank you, Dr. Chin. Had you not suggested treatment I did not need, for a crazy cost, I would not have looked elsewhere and found my new Dental Home.

I told them about my experiences with tue dentist and how im very traumatized. They took my concerns very seriously and handled me with care and tenderness! My regulars that I talk to regularly are Yvonne (she's one of the coolest receptionist) And Cheri, (amazing hygienist) she cleans my teeth all the time!
