I started seeing this dentist over two years ago, I should say practice because their retention rate with dentist here is HORRIFIC. I've had four separate dentist's in a two year time period. I went in for a simple cleaning, was told I had a cavity, was given an enclave. Of which I needed to have replaced four separate times because of how poorly they placed it. My wife went to also have a simple cleaning. They told her the root of one of her teeth was infected. To be specific was having mercury seep into her bloodstream. She had silver fillings. The dentist proceeded to remove such silver and cause a crack in my wife's tooth. Then try to refer her out to an oral surgeon to have the tooth extracted. None of which was covered under our insurance. Upon a second visit with x-rays to a separate dentist shout out DeAngelis family dentistry for being phenomenal!! They are located off Palomar Airport Road. It was explained to me that my first dentist straight out lied. There was no issue with the root of my wife's tooth. In fact, the tooth and the root was perfectly healthy. He just wanted a large out of pocket payment!! Upon calling to have the issue fixed with the first dentist BC THATS HOW INSURANCE WORKS!! We were told the dentist she saw, was not available to fix the problem because he had left the country. True story. The owner of the practice refused to refund me my money. He instead had another dentist correct the first mistake, of which they made my wife wait an hour to be seen. That's 3 hours total of her workday she had to take off to fix a problem that they created, and caused more issues with! THEY ARE CROOKS! read more

DO NOT COME!!! my experience with La Costa Dentistry has been a disaster. firstly, the people that work front desk are extremely rude. over the top mean to anybody who has extra questions or just wants to book an appointment. secondly and most importantly, my teeth were DESTROYED and BOTCHED. I have gotten one root canal and several cavity fillings. like many here insurance has covered it. I paid in total $1,800. (Still paying off the majority of it with a credit card) you would expect such a price comes with efficiency but you would be wrong. over months after just doing all my maintenance with my teeth I visited them again. My teeth In the back that were filled felt sensitive. they told me that the problems "were small". mind you they did X-RAYS of my teeth. SO THEY KNEW. Not only that but I was TOTALLY made to feel dumb. They knew they filled it in first but they DID NOT want to take accountability. I felt so terrible I knew I was being gaslighted HARD. I tried asking more questions but I still felt weird I knew something was off and my gut was telling me I needed a second opinion. mind you my molars were not feeling normal. so I went to another dentist. This dentist was shocked. he was upset for me. he told me and I quote ," They poorly filled it in. we need to fix this as soon as possible before it touches the root." He explained that these la costa dentistry people were blindly and aimlessly filling it in. That it had what seemed like HOLES. he was straight up and honest with me. he told me how severe and helped me right away. he was so shocked and was so annoyed at how bad everything was filled in. This place is a SCAM! Just a corporate dentist practice that only cares about money and will try to get money at the expense of your oral health. I went here because the oral surgeon who comes to this office once month has great reviews. I wish I could say the same about the business. I paid out of pocket over $1200 to get my wisdom teeth removed with insurance. When I showed up the day of my surgery, surprise you owe us an additional $2000 dollars out of pocket with insurance on top of the $1200 I already paid. After complaining to the front desk about the 150% change order, they reduced the additional cost to $1200. They forced me to pay the additional $1200 knowing I was in pain and couldn't wait an additional 2 to 4 weeks to find a different surgeon. There reason for such a dramatic increase in costs is the oral surgeon decided to do a different type of wisdom teeth extraction, a change that apparently costs more than double what I already paid out of pocket with insurance. Dr J and her staff are cordially accommodating. They use equipment including 3D X-rays, that makes other dental offices look behind the times. I haven't done anything but an exam with X-rays to determine if I wanted the work done for a bridge and then implants over the course of many visits for a year. read more

I had one of the worst experiences ever. They tried to upsell me immediately, and when I pushed back they kept me in my chair for over 30 minutes before coming back to check on me. When I asked to speak with the Dentist again, I was told he was now on to other patients. Hire actual people that know how to deal with patients and are organized. They are condescending. None of them should be public facing. They are possibly the worst dental staff I have ever encountered. Yana doesn't give you a chance to get your grievance out before she starts chastising you. Her patient service skills are god awful not only over the phone but in person - just look at the previous reviews here. YANA had the audacity to hang up on me when she didn't like me getting flustered. They claim I was yelling at them lol liars. I called back and the receptionist said that she was recording me and I told her that would illegal without my consent and she goes" I didn't say I was recording, I said I would record " and I said "again, that would be illegal without my consent". It was only then that she stopped but kept giving me attitude. So I hung up and called our insurance to call them. Guess what? The agent wasn't able to get through. Procedure was done in June. Her incompetence caused a delay in filing the claim because she was trying to get a test from the orthodontist before it would approved but kept contacting the wrong office with no response. Maybe if you CHECKED the actual referral for the original treatment you'd have that information you think? So she kept calling me and I had to give her the information doing her job for her. They CLAIM they haven't received payment which is a load of garbage as Anthem already disbursed it earlier this month. So after no luck reaching them, I was advised by the agent to file an appeal with Anthem and I also filed a complaint with the State Attorney General's office for their questionable billing practices. We're in-network yet they charged us double what we were responsible for up front before they would proceed with treatment. Unfortunately at the time, I didn't have much knowledge of how this process works, I would've gone some where else for my kid. Side note: when we were there and my daughter had to get X-rays there, the tech told her not to walk behind them while they were scanning and she's says "oh well"...really? How ignorant can you be? You want radiation . Lack of safety awareness too. They only get one star for Dr. Zandevakili and his dental assistants who were the only good things about that place. Unprofessional staff, I wouldn't hire them to flip burgers. Avoid this place like the plague for anything. I'll give you a good recommendation for an ortho - go to Carlsbad Village Ortho. The dental work received, dentists and dental assistants were all wonderful. However, I was charged more than double for a co-pay and my insurance company says this office owes me a refund for the overpayment. Despite phone calls and emails, the office has ignored my request. I had to file a formal greivance through my insurance to escalate the issue. Two stars because there is active avoidance on the part of the office staff (I've called multiple times and the receptionist is dismissive and says the issue will be addressed), and no response at all to my emails. Based on other reviews I've read, they may be attempting to fraudulently charge more for copays than they should (by contract with your insurance). read more

My parents are seniors and the reason we came to this office (a distance away) is Dr. Ma! Dr. Ma is an outstanding, professional dentist but also a kind, patient and compassionate human being! We cannot say enough about her and her excellent care. We have each had a variety of dental challenges and every time we have needed her care we have had complete confidence in her. Horrible Experience - AVOID THIS OFFICE AT ALL COSTS! La Costa Dentistry has been a nightmare, and I wouldn't wish my experience on anyone. I initially visited as a first-time patient for a cleaning, which went fine. Since I needed four teeth extracted for my orthodontic treatment (as suggested by my orthodontist's office--a completely separate business), I asked if La Costa Dentistry could handle the procedure. They scheduled me for extractions, and I trusted them to have all the necessary information and referrals from my orthodontist. Unfortunately, my biggest fear became a reality--they extracted the WRONG TEETH. Instead of removing the specific teeth needed for my braces, they pulled out FOUR MOLARS, leaving me unable to chew properly and permanently altering my quality of life. While I understand mistakes happen, what has followed is beyond unacceptable. I've tried to remain patient, but the lack of accountability, empathy, or any attempt to make things right has been appalling. Instead of working toward a resolution, they've treated me with indifference and essentially told me to "do what I have to do." Their office manager, Yana, has been impossible to deal with. She refuses to escalate my concerns, claiming her boss is "out of the country" and that it would be "illegal" to give me their name. What legitimate business doesn't have someone responsible for resolving serious issues? She hasn't returned my calls, and every interaction has left me more frustrated. It turns out the referral for the extractions came from their own dentist--someone who had no knowledge of my orthodontic needs or which teeth needed to be removed. I had only been to this office once for a cleaning, yet they took it upon themselves to decide which teeth to extract without consulting my orthodontist. La Costa Dentistry has shown zero remorse or willingness to help fix their catastrophic mistake. All I've asked for is accountability, empathy, and a refund for what they've done, but I've gotten nothing in return. If you've experienced similar malpractice, please reach out. Dr. Olivia is a great professional that worked out a reliable treatment plan for me and all her work on my teeth been flawless. I am so happy to be writing this review. I was just here last week after 11 months and I had the best experience. This location went through a lot of change over the past couple of years, but things seem to have stabilized. Tama, one of the new hygienists, was fantastic. She had an amazing "bedside" manner, was great at explaining things, and did a great job taking care of my teeth. Dr Ma was also fantastic (as usual). I wish I had read the Yelp reviews before going. My experience echo's a lot of what is posted. Clearly the owners are not paying attention because nothing seems to have changed. I went in for a long overdue cleaning and initially had some issues with the insurance pulling up. The receptionist said - oh, we have a basic cleaning package for $59 . Great - they took me back got X-Rays and a preliminary exam. Then....they stopped. Really wanting to see if they could get the insurance straightened out, they escorted me back to the front desk where I provided the updated insurance card on my phone. The clearly bent out of shape manager took my phone & proceeded to aggressively swipe & poke the insurance mobile app looking for something. I asked her what was the problem. She indicated she needed to see the full coverage details and needed to call the insurance company. She told me to take a seat in the lobby again. After about 15 minutes she called me up & said she had what she needed at which point I was presented with a printout of suggested services. That $59 cleaning magically turned into a $1400 estimate (before insurance) of cleaning services. Shady to say the least. My portion ended up being about $300. As I indicated at the beginning - i was long overdue so I bit the bullet and got the cleaning done. On the plus side, the dentist who performed the work was very nice though she was clearly at the mercy of the Ms. Fayman, the front desk manager. I'll be looking elsewhere for dental care. read more

My experience here over the last 1.5 years has been excellent. Dr Alice Ma is very competent and has great clinical skills. Her bedside manner is truly excellent. The staff have all been very friendly to me. My advice: I explained I do not believe in laser deep cleaning at the first appointment, and it was never brought up again. They told me I needed two fillings and a crown. It seemed weird because at my last visit 6 months prior, they said I had no cavities, only a couple of areas to watch. This felt fishy, so I went to another dentist for a second opinion, and they said I only needed one filling. The WORST receptionist staff you can put in front of patients. The front desk staff is condescending from the moment they pick up the phone till the moment you hang up. I would never return to this dentist. This office's goal is to conduct a "bait and switch" of their services. I'll expand on this post in the future but right now my experience was bad enough where if I can save one person from going through my experience, it's well worth a quick first pass. Like many others, I had a first visit that quickly resulted in a treatment plan and claims that I had gum disease, needed a deep cleaning (descaling) and laser treatment for bacteria in my gums. I was also told repeatedly that "you're a little rough on your teeth" and I've never ever heard that before, much less had any indication of gum disease. I'm only at this office because I just moved to the area and it's convenient vs driving an hour to my old family dentist (big mistake). Trusting the dentist, I agreed to the treatment plan (deep cleaning, descaling and laser cleaning for bacteria) and in that appointment also was presented with other issues and another treatment plan. On the way out, I was charged several hundred dollars more than the first treatment plan estimate and today I'm still dealing with pain/sensitivity in multiple teeth and have no idea why. I talked to the front office and they admitted there was a overbilling and suggested applying it to future treatments. Randomly I was talking to a neighbor and he mentioned he was just told by his dentist that he has gum disease and needs to go through a series of treatment, etc. Guess who his dentist is.....La Costa Dentistry. Talking with him and trading stories, turns out it's the exact same treatment plan and he was even overbilled which is too much of a coincidence. They clearly have a playbook and systematically upsell people and I regret every hour I've spent waiting for my appointments (they're never on time), all the frustration and more importantly all of the ongoing PAIN I have in my teeth which I've never ever had issues with before!! Ever. I'd move on down the road to the next dentist and avoid this place would be my advice - there is something wrong going on here. I'll happily be driving an hour + each way to my old dentist to try and figure out what is happening to all of my teeth on the lower right side of my mouth. UGH read more

The dentist I seen was very kind and informal of my situation. However, the blonde receptionist at the front was not so kind. I had just had X-rays done prior to this visit and informed receptionist I will be sending those over. She became upset and told me I had to have a 3D xray done. When I declined the 3D xray she informed me I would most likely not be seen. I was seen but that didn't stop her from going to other co workers telling them about our conversation. So very unprofessional of her and that's why I'm giving this place a one star. From reading other reviews and it seems like others have had the same experience with this same lady. Do NOT use this office. We are now on our 5th orthodontist and 4th dentist. No continuity in care whatsoever and the ortho hours have been reduced to once a week with very limited hours. My kids are now in the retainer phase and their teeth have shifted and require treatment again because their jaws grew. Apparently other ortho will recommend that teenagers wait until their jaws stop growing before they continue with phase 2. Not these guys. So they got my kids teeth perfect and then puberty hit. Each successive ortho could care less because it wasn't their treatment plan. I regret sinking so much money into this place and highly recommend you stay away. Every year the dentist or ortho will change and no one cares about patient care. The extremely limited hours are the last straw. The ortho left early and my kids and I showed up for our scheduled appointment and now we have to reschedule. This is after them calling me to reschedule my appt this morning. They also sent the wrong X-rays to my periodontist. First I had to keep calling to remind them with numerous follow up calls. My dentist of many years dropped our insurance so I found this one which was in close proximity. I was aware of horrible reviews about their other doctors but I thought I'd give Dr. Alice Ma thinking not much could go wrong for a rout cleaning. What a mistake! All those bad reviews are legitimate. I wonder how the people in the front desk can stand go to work there everyday. As a new patient I was advised to get x-rays before my exam. I told Dr. Ma my x-rays are up-to-date and offered to have my former dentist send them but she insisted it was better to get new ones. Then she went on to explain how their office focused on preventative measures claiming that bacteria is responsible for bone loss thus I should get my teeth cleaned using their laser technology. She then had another staff member come in to give me estimates which consisted of over $3400 out-of-pocket cost. I declined stating I just wanted a traditional cleaning. After all, I wasn't having any dental issues and had no cavity or anything. I just wanted a routine cleaning. Then after some arguing back and forth trying to convince me of this they had me sign a statement of refusal of treatment. The dentist then made some notes about my existing teeth but never really examined my oral cavity by doing a physical exam. Then they put me in another room with their dental hygienist who was caught off guard because I was not supposed to be there though I reminded him the only reason I was there was for a routine cleaning. They offered no goodie bag with new tooth brush like other offices do. They said I had a copay for the fluoride, I reminded them that fluoride is included so then they said the copay was for the x-rays. I told them the x-rays are side included but they kept insisting I have a $50 copay even though we have had the same insurance for years and never in my life did we have to pay anything out of pocket. Finally I ended up calling my insurance company. The insurance rep kept saying everything is covered until the office came up with a code that was not. The code was for cone beam CT imaging, a modality that is not typically used for routine exams but for cases of trauma and implants. The dentist said I was getting an x-ray, I was never given any information about the risks and benefits of CBCT. Informed consent was never obtained yet they bill me for it anyway. This is negligent and fraudulent! Beware! Going back and reading other people's reviews it becomes clear this groups practice is unethical all around. I recommend everyone file a complaint with the medical board of California so their practice will be seriously investigated and save future patients from being duped. read more

Dental Scam in our neighbourhood I am resident of la costa for the last 35 years and want to share the dental scam in our neighborhood. On 8/23/24 I went to the dentistry at La Costa Dentistry and Orthodontics, 7625 Via Campanile. This was my first visit as recommended by DeltaCare USA. I was at the dental facility may be around 1.5 hours. I gave my credit card for the service, was promised the receipt thru email, no email yet. When I recieved my credit card bill I was horrified to see the amount of $3517. Delta care told me that the out of pocket cost is only $1192. They may have cooked up dental procedures to get the money from Insurance. One of my friend told me that this dental facility is mostly targetting the Older people. I was calling the facility for almost two weeks , but no answer or return calls. I went to their facility last week to get $2325 back, forced me out using the facility security. read more

Encountered the utmost condescending and incompetent receptionist, young/blonde. After discovering my prescription has not reach my pharmacy (Vons which is a few hundred yards away in same shopping plaza), I inform the receptionist I need my prescription so I could save a second trip. To my dismay, she tells me to wait an hour as dentist is with another patient. Explain why make an elderly patient who is 70+ years old linger around or come back in one hour when it is Olivia DDS who neglected to send/write the prescription before rushing to another patient. How presumptuous and disrespectful to not value patients' time. It is the Olivia's responsibility to ensure each patient needs are met & provide quality patient care. Absolutely outrageous and unacceptable. The arrogant and lazy receptionist asserts that since Olivia is seeing another patient, my prescription is unable to send electronically. Thus I request for a written prescription. She proceeds to cite a CA law that written prescriptions are not permitted. Fact check your resources and visit CA Board of Pharmacy for statutory changes in pharmacy laws that pharmacies in fact DO ACCEPT LEGALLY VALID WRITTEN, VERBAL OR FAX PRESCRIPTIONS PURSUANT TO AB 2789. Im under the impression that she is being passive aggressive as I decided to hold off my treatment plan and obtain a second opinion- ($3600 for deep clean and fillings) prior insurance. This nasty receptionist reluctantly hands me my written prescription and Vons dispenses it seamlessly. Furthermore, I had Vons call them back as Olivia neglects to provide recommendation for an oral rinse after admitting she forgets the spelling of the product is ... quite pathetic. Replace your staff and fact check before citing laws to intimidate patients, brush up on clinical knowledge as your entire staff has proven to be utterly clueless and incompetent. I will follow up with a formal complaint with DENTAL BOARD of CA for misinformation and denying patient prescriptions, I strongly advise all fellow patients who feel mistreated to follow suit. read more

"Creative Diagnosis" paired with pushing procedures that are not endorsed by professional dental associations. I really wanted to like this place and give a more positive rating for a number of reasons. The people are nice. The facility is modern. It's in a good location for La Costa. And I've received good service from the hygienists. That being said, there's no way that I could continue coming here as a patient. In the last 1.5 years that I've been a patient, the service and the overselling have been consistent. I have been politely saying "no" the push for laser cleaning at each and every visit. Prior to visiting this office, I regularly had checkups every 6 months where the hygienists and the dentists noted that my teeth and gums were in a healthy range (vast majority of pockets were 2-3 mm). Suddenly upon visiting this office, my gums were assessed at 4-5 mm... and expensive laser treatment is pushed. This happened again and again. And I politely declined. No treatment of any kind needed. (2) Made an appt a week later & found myself in a waiting room for close to 45 minutes, full of kids seeing the orthodontist. Ended up spending close to 2 hrs in the office and still did not get a cleaning. (3) Had to reschedule a 3RD visit two weeks later.... at which point I cancelled and was able to go back to my old dentist who finally performed the cleaning and confirmed everything is fine. I will say that as form of apology for the wait and rescheduling, the primary dentist/owner made an offer to reduce the cost of the cleaning from $489.20 to $299.20. A nice offer. However, paying for any treatment that is deemed unnecessary by other practitioners is clearly a waste of money. If you are a patient here or at any dental provider that is recommending laser cleaning treatment, GET A SECOND OPINION. read more

Similar to the other 1 star reviews... They require 2 appointments if you're a new patient for a cleaning. First appt to meet the doctor then do X-rays. That way you're invested. Then at the second appt, they tell you that you need a deep cleaning for $700. They wouldn't agree to do just a standard cleaning. I left a got a second appt. No deep cleaning was necessary. Horrible outfit, furthest thing from a family dental practice you could ask for, nickel and dime you . want to take full x-rays every time, they wanted $900 to clean my teeth, I am 62 years old with a nice teeth and have good oral health, they insisted on a $900 deep cleaning, I have never experienced this at any other dental practice in my 60 years, I had my family going here, and they drilled and filled the same tooth on my daughter as they did on my wife, what a coincidence, my wife has never had a cavity in her life until she came to this place. do not go to the outfit. They had good customer service and were a fairly decent business. I definitely don't want leave a bad review.

The other negative reviews echo my experience. Clearly this practice has some sort of playbook to charge unnecessary fees. I am new to the area and found this practice as it was in-network for my dental insurance. Upon arrival, I made it clear I simply want the preventative cleaning that my insurance covers. Somehow that turned into the dentist telling me I need to pay close to $1000 for some deep cleaning with a laser, or $200 for just the deep cleaning. I explained once again I simply want a routine cleaning and she tells me that she would be committing fraud if she gave me a routine cleaning - asserting that I need a deep cleaning. Do not go to this office, I went for regular cleaning and the doctor Alice recommended a deep cleaning ( I always did regular cleaning every six month ). The quality of the deep cleaning was the same as the regular cleaning I use to do, not difference but I paid of course more! She rushed the cleaning and that's a shame. I get compliments on my teeth all the time. One reason I have such nice teeth is because I have been with Dr. Mobasher since she was at another office before she opened this one (about 13+ years now). She is not only an exceptional dentist who works hard to give me the highest quality dental work, she also has a wonderful personality that makes coming to get dental work like visiting a friend. Her staff are very friendly and find a way to make even busy moments feel like you are being thought of. They are all so personable and thoughtful. read more
