Place is a dump. Smells like garbage, and trash everywhere. Junky atmosphere. Never eating there again.

Glendale Recycling Center - Weighing-in

Glendale Recycling Center

We had a community clean up day in April as one of our Earth Day activities. Some neighbors dropped…read moreoff recycling. I volunteered to redeem the munched plastic bottles, rattling cans, and occasional bottle we found while tidying up the neighborhood. I was pleasantly surprised. Glendale Recycling Center is efficiently run and the service is great. The staff helps move the lines along and everyone is very nice and hardworking. And if I read the prices correctly, GRC pays a few cents more for plastics + cans than those SuperA grocery store guys in a delivery truck. I know this because I left the SuperA guy in Cypress Park when he decided to take his lunch 15 mins. early and close up shop. Glad I looked to YELP and found this place in a snap without wasting time. Also, this place is almost like an all-in-one recycling center where you can not only get CRV money, but also drop off old electronics, all those Amazon cardboard boxes, and some other things that you can't throw into your regular trash bin. (Some items they don't accept, but they'll direct you to where you can take them.) Since this was a pleasant & relatively painless experience, I just might make a daily habit out our Earth Day practice and return every now and then.

Evolution Recycling - I got $63 for all my cans and plastic bottles.

I brought a small dolly with glass bottles and a little bit of plastic bottles and 4 cans (which i gave to someone who collected more than me). Pro tip: separate your glass by color. Brown, green, clear, etc. Prior to coming to this location. They also do not accept milk cartons and olive oil glass bottles. They separate their glass by color, and if you dont have them separated, they will make you do it there. The only hard part is that you can't separate them until they have bins available for you to use and separate them. Suggestions: you may want to bring some ear plugs because the clinging of the glasses can pierce your ear drums. A hat is always nice because they only have one canopy to provide shade. A small portable chair to sit as you wait for others to turn theirs in and maybe a fan of some sort for the hot days. They dont have many trash cans to throw away your bags or cardboard boxes, so you may need a clean bag to store all these and dispose of it at a later time. Hand sanitizer or gloves because you will be grabbing dirty trash cans or these wired baskets as you bring your piles to the guy. They weigh your piles by categories and pay you cash in the end. Carry some spare change, some of each would be good (pennies, dimes, nickles, quarters) because they may just round up and give you a solid bill.

Punch line before story- watch the weight on the scales!…read more We had the copper removed from our home that will need a rebuild after a fire. Our plumber brought his apprentice over who knew there are 3 different price levels. Pure copper pipe. The parts that connect that have solder. And the brass parts Upon arriving we thought there would be an entrance in the back alley. Nope. Customers unload in front on San Fernando Rd. An attendant will give you garbage containers to haul metal in. We had 3 types so 3 bins. When the man at the weigh station put the copper on I was watching the screen and took a photo. (Our plumbers apprentice had warned us about this place and said the best price was in Simi or Sunland...too far and too long for our meager amount) Then he weighed the other two while we were talking with another staff member. (Shouldn't have been distracted while conducting business) The guy at the scale shows us the total and I realize the Copper 1 was now much lighter than the original weight! I showed him the photo on my phone and he corrected it! In hindsight I should have had all 3 weighed again. But we were tired, dirty and the whole process pretty depressing and I didn't want to make a huge deal out of it. So consumer beware! It's a good service they provide and somewhat convenient location. But be aware and pay attention!

It's in the same plaza as Ralphs, off of Emerson Ave. This isn't my usual recycling place. So it was a surprise to me to find out that they accept wine bottles and even those Ragu jars! (Be sure to clean the inside since the workers have to break it down themselves.) My regular recycling center didnt take those so I've been just tossing it in the trash. (My garbage company says they will separate it out but somehow I am skeptical.) Since finding this place, I've been bringing all of my wine bottles and glass jars here. As for the value when it comes to these glass items, I'm not sure if I am getting a fair price or not since I have nothing to compare it to. But at least in my situation, I am getting a little something instead of absolutely nothing when I toss it in the trash. The lines go quickly at this location. It's definitely a shorter wait time compared to my usual place. And the staff here are friendly. I've been back and will keep coming back!

It's at the parking lot right next to Ralph's with about 6 parking spots right in front of it. The people working there are nice. They go on lunch break from 12pm-1pm I believe. Last time I did go about after 1pm and they were not there yet so keep that in mind. They now take glass bottles individually instead of by weight and the pricing changed since my last visit but I don't pay too much attention to the prices since this is just extra money to me. The process is easy - just separate your cans, bottles, and glass. This location doesn't take gallon milk cartons but the montebello location does.
