Roof is fine, but house damaged during install. Damaged trim on the siding and drywall inside the house when skylight was replaced. They fixed the siding trim (took 10 days of back and forth) Drywall damage? not their problem, says so in the contract. dumpster sat in driveway for 5 days...dumpster retrieval called to ask if job was done...because they had heard nothing from Schoenherr. On install day project manager sends photo updates but doesn't respond if you reach out to him. Crew onsite either doesn't speak English or have been told not to talk to customer. Our metal roof was supposed to be installed in December and it got delayed due to a machine breaking the day before installation. We rescheduled, then one of the workers was in the hospital.... Fast forward to March when we could finally install it and they could only do half of the job because they ran out of material. We waited a week and they finally finished the day we were leaving for vacation. 2 weeks after the install, the roof started leaking... like buckets coming into the house. The roof was "fixed" and on June 5, it started leaking again, in the same spot! On July 8, the "manager" came out to do a full inspection on the roof but DID NOT USE WATER! Would not recommend this company! I tried contacting Chad who was the project manager on two occasions, and he could not be bothered to return my calls. The first issue was not notifying me that materials would be delivered to the ROOF, which made a considerable racket, and absolutely terrorized my elderly dogs. Every other roof job that I have had, had ground delivery of materials which was not a problem at all. Had I known, I could have removed the dogs from the house prior to delivery and it would have been a non-issue. The second issue was the mess that was left behind. I had to pick up blowing trash from the roof bundles, and we had a littering of roofing nails on our deck, sidewalk, dog kennel, and driveway. We could not even use our driveway for several days, and we still don't, for fear of picking up nails on our tires. These type of issues were never a problem with previous roofing companies, but the fact they seemed unconcerned was really annoying. I have never had a phone call to a service provider go unreturned, so why Chad couldn't take the time to return my calls was a mystery. Overall, we had a positive experience with our roof replacement, but a few issues kept it from being excellent. Scheduling was easy, the consultant was on time and prepared, and the quote and financing options were competitive. The crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and completed the roof quickly, even with two existing layers to remove. We also appreciated the progress photos and prompt follow-up with the invoice, financing paperwork, and final inspection scheduling. Our main concerns were communication, cleanup, and safety. We did not receive a response when we asked for a dumpster delivery time which made planning garage access difficult. We were also told the generator and A/C units would be covered, but they were not. Cleanup during the job was not as thorough as it should have been, with debris blowing into our yard and a neighbor's yard and damage to a security light and gutter flashing. We also observed that no one working on the roof appeared to be using fall protection, which was concerning given OSHA requirements for work over 6 feet. In the end, the roof itself appears to have been installed efficiently and professionally, but better communication, cleanup, and attention to safety would have made the experience much stronger. read more

Absolultely the worst. They are fake customer service. Had no problems with roof, had schoener put on a 60 thousand dollar roof and leaking the first spring. Came out and said they "fixed it" after taking aobut a week to come out and figure it out. Had same problem this spring and they came out and said it was the roofers fault from 2006. What!!! Installed siding , using a new composite. The final product was wavy and the imperfections are noticeable. Schoenherr agreed to fix the siding on only one side of our house. Several acknowledged that the siding is not level but still expected us to pay the final amount owed. They gave us a $500 discount. Incredibly disappointed and will not use them again. I posted this on Google and am putting it here, too. Love this company. They did a great job. From start to finish, I can't imagine a better group of people in which to put your trust. When our old roof finally gave out in December, we decided to do it all: shingles, flashing, ridge vent, soffit vents, seamless gutters, and capping our old wood fascia with aluminum. Of the 5 presentations and quotes we received, Schoenherr was the most impressive and able to do everything we wanted. The quote was in line with the other contractors. We loved that the company is a Platinum contractor for Owens Corning, and I trust the Owens Corning name - went with the Duration Flex shingles which I had researched in advance. Huge shoutout to Jordan our salesman for taking the time to explain everything - he clearly knows his stuff. There were no high pressure sales tactics, and he follow up professionally while it took us a couple weeks to get all our quotes. Ultimately, he made us feel the most comfortable choosing Schoenherr over the others. Obviously, roofing and siding in the winter is weather dependent, and they take the safety of their people seriously. By the beginning of January - even though it was cold with snow on the ground - the roofing team was able to start. I want to thank Chad, our project manager, as well as Romeo and his team for being such hard working, professional, and pleasant folks. They answered all my questions and explained what they were doing as they ripped off the old shingles, put the ice and water roof underlayment down, cut the ridge vent, did all the flashing, and shingled. Chad was on site and the team was taking pictures and sending them to me so I could see what they were doing. They protected everything around the house and put down tarps to catch debris. And, I was impressed how long they stayed on the job after the last shingle was done to make sure that everything was clean - including making sure my neighbors didn't have any debris. Thanks for being so professional. It looks fantastic. Then came the siding and gutter team. Again, Jim and his team were professional, courteous, and communicative throughout the entire part of their project. 48 foot long seamless gutters - no problem. Doing the fascia wrap and installing soffit vents in cold weather - no problem. The hard work and attention to detail on the job and the amount of time spent to ensure the site was clean was impressive. Just brilliant all around! Jim, thanks again and thank your team again for me as well. It was a pleasure having you guys do this work. The house looks so much better! Finally, got to give a shoutout to Jed who followed as the quality inspector at the end. Schoenherr did a quality job up front. The initial consultation was professional and actual project was pretty much complete in one day. The quality of work seems good as of now (3 months after) and the roof looks good. However, there was a bathroom not vented and not up to code. Despite many promises to fix the issue by Rick and Greg - nobody has set a day to come out to take care of the post project mistake. At this point, they are ignoring multiple calls. I contacted this company expecting a professional quote process, but was very disappointed. Instead of sending someone out to assess the job in person to provide a proper quote, I was told to send a picture and pay $$ upfront. Even more concerning they said they'd let me know after starting the job if I'd need to pay more. This approach felt unprofessional and risky - how can any agree to pay more without knowing what the final cost might be? I was expected to hire them without ever speaking face to face or receiving a clear quote. This is a huge red flag. I didn't feel comfortable hiring a company that expects payment without even meeting in person or providing a clear estimate. That's not how professional services should operate. I am disappointed with my experience with Schoenherr Roofing. While the sales process sounded promising, the actual execution fell short in several critical areas: 1. Project Delays - The project start was delayed by nearly 35 days after the down payment, with little communication or explanation provided. 2. City Permits & Inspections - No city permit documents or approval information were shared before starting the work. - After completion, no inspection was done, and the city was not informed. I was left without any official confirmation that the work met local requirements. 3. Unfulfilled Sales Promises Several items promised by the salesman were either ignored or not done professionally: - Attic inspection and replacement of sheathing boards if mold was found before shingle replacement. - Structural repair of a sister joist in the attic and fascia work at the rear. - Gutter inspection, cleaning, sealing, and replacement if needed. - City approval before work start and city inspection during and after roofing. - Warranty information on shingles after full payment. 4. Overall Professionalism - The lack of transparency and follow-through on key commitments created unnecessary stress. - For a company with a strong reputation, I expected better accountability and communication. Bottom Line While the roof was eventually installed, the delays, missing permits, lack of inspections, and unfulfilled promises left me questioning the professionalism of Schoenherr Roofing. Schoenherr Roofing installed a new roof for me last week and I can't say enough wonderful things about this company. The salesman was not pushy. The project manager looped me into a group text and reached out to me every step of the way. The team worked hard and completed the project in one day. Overall, I would not recommend them. We decided to go with Schoenherr Roofing based off of the good reviews online, their company profile and workmanship seemed above others and their pricing fell within the middle of the quotes we received from other companies for our project. The good: 1.) Joe was a very, nice, informative and non-pushy salesman/contact to deal with and work towards the development and signing of a contact for our roofing replacement. 2.) Initially, upon signing our contract, we were told that it could be roughly 4 weeks for the project to commence. Upon the initial payment, we were booked for them to begin only 1 week later. 3.) The roof replacement/installation was completed (mostly) in one day and looks great and appears to be done with quality workmanship. The bad: 1.) Upon being told the project was "completed" and requested for payment, the additional bathroom exhaust vent that was to be installed was not done, it was missed. They did come out and complete this in a fairly timely manner, but this was an inconvenience. 2.) 6 packs of extra shingles were ordered to "complete some more work" since they were apparently shorted these in the initial delivery and would complete it along with the bathroom vent missed. Shingles were delivered, but I was then told this was a mistake and that the shingle installation was indeed completed and they would be picked up. The bathroom vent installation was completed on 8/5, the shingles still sit in my driveway today. 3.) The cleanup - This was not very thorough and unacceptable in my opinion. Nails, staples, plastic, shingle pieces, etc. in my driveway, lawn, back deck and all around the property. Two separate other "magnetic sweeps" for nails, staples, etc. were completed in the weeks after, but I am still finding some around my property. Also, my Trex back deck was damaged in the process of cleaning up as there are drag marks gouged into the top boards by the step down and on the adjacent posts from dragging their tarps and equipment. The deck is less than a year old, so I know this damage is from their cleanup. 4.) The scheduling of the final inspection. I had the inspection scheduled for Monday, August 11 between 3-4. I took time off of work to arrive home early in time for the inspection, no one arrived. Thinking they may be running late, I called at 4 to confirm and was told I was scheduled for Wednesday, not Monday, even though I had a formal appointment for Monday. In the end, I was told it was a mix-up, but would need to reschedule for Wednesday. It was indeed completed Wednesday, but again, another inconvenience in this whole process. In the end, the task of replacing my roof was completed and it looks acceptable, so job done I suppose. However, their quality in other areas and the multiple issues/inconveniences I encountered really left me unsatisfied overall with Schoenherr Roofing. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY TO HAVE YOUR ROOF DONE. Not happy at all with roofing job. Requested to have hump in roof and dip in ridge line removed and they couldn't do it. Asked to have eves installed and they couldn't do it. They installed this ugly roof ventilation system when my soffits already had adequate ventilation. So basically, the illegals they put on my roof cut holes in my roof for absolutely no reason. Not one worker on the project spoke English. Made it very frustrating when I was trying to ask about the build and no one could understand me. Afterwards, the owner contacted me to try and make things right. He didn't do squat. Guess he was only concerned about this poor review. And there is no possible way this company has a 4.9 star rating. Guaranteed. We finally got smart and had a quality builder come out and add overhangs. The builder will also be repairing the hump in the roof that Schoehnerr should have done. I mean, why would you ever put good shingles over a bad roof? Freakin' stupid. read more

At the end of April we had strong winds that did damage to our roof. Ross Schoenherr answered my call and immediately got one of his employees to come to my house the same day and place a patch on the roof to prevent further damage from the approaching storms. The Schoenherr Roofing staff have worked very hard with me to get AAA to cover the damages, emergency services and repairs. However, the only people dropping the ball with this whole process has been AAA. AAA Insurance Claim members in Royal Oak has been stalling since April on paying for the emergency services and saying they are considering the bills. Jason from Schoenherr Roofing finally did the repair today, and took the time to inspect the whole roof for any issues. He added caulk to spots where the old caulk had started weathering to ensure we have no water damage issues down the road. This was a bonus, since that was never in their original quote. This is a long review but if you are thinking about using this company please read. This has been a nightmare and if I can help anyone else from going through this I will be happy. My husband was very impressed with the salesman that came out for the quote. So much so that we paid this company a little extra than what other company's quoted us. We told them several times we wanted our roof done in the spring and they said that was fine and they would send someone out to fix the couple spots in our roof that started leaking to last us through the winter. They would set a day and no one would show, no one would even call to say they weren't showing. Then we didn't hear from them and had to call and ask when someone was coming out. This happened 3 times. Then in the middle of the winter I see on my Ring cam that someone is trying to drop off shingles to my house. I rush from work to tell them we aren't having our roof done yet. At this point I told my husband we should pick another company, this is too many strikes. We did not and we are paying the price. They set up our roof install and it was delayed due to weather, which is understandable. Unfortunately I have a dog that has anxiety and I need to make sure she goes outside and give her medication before they get there. At first our project manager was understanding about me asking if they were coming but after about 3 times of having to ask, because of weather delays, he was getting annoyed with me. His last text was "Yes, I understand!!", which I thought came off as completely rude. So the install finally happens and the project manager calls me to tell me that they had to replace 27 boards on my roof but not to worry because we will only pay for 7. Then we got another call saying it was 27 but we have to pay for 22. Then it went to 29 boards and we have to pay for 24. I was kind of blown away by this because we were going to have our attic cleaned for the mold that was up there. My husband gets home and goes through the wood that had to be removed and took pictures because some of this wood was perfectly fine and didn't look like it needed to be removed. We then call the project manager to have him come look at the wood they removed, no callback. We then try the office to talk to our salesman, no call back. As a last resort my husband had to text them about how unhappy he was. Finally someone who is now our new project manager calls back and my husband explains what's going on. We were told someone would come by the next day to take a look. The roofers throw all the wood in the dumpster and leave. First thing the next morning the dumpster is taken! Not one person came to our house or even called us the day they were supposed to look at the wood. Ever since then it has been a battle of how many boards they actually replaced. My husband actually went through the entire day on our Ring cam and counted how many boards they actually used, 23 being the final count. This company insists that they used 29 regardless of what we have on video! We have actual video and they have not come to look at it or even inquire about it after we told them we have it on video! Meanwhile this is all basically done in their stupid group text with no actual person calling us! This has now been going on for almost a month now and I am completely disgusted. Not one person has been to our house to talk to us and they are not interested in seeing the video of how many sheets they actually used. They just want us to pay what they say they used. In the chat they even sent us paperwork showing how many boards they supposedly dropped off. Geez I can send a piece of paper stating something too but does that make it true? In the video we have the roofer actually waving off more boards so what the paperwork says isn't what was actually dropped off but that would mean someone actually coming here and looking at the video. Can I just pay for my damn roof and be done with this nightmare for God's sake!?! God help us if we ever need to have them back out for warranty issues!! read more
