This company was selected to replace my roof. To my peril, I signed their standard contract. It was not cheap. Repairs were needed this company would not cover, and this is a quote from the manager present, "Our roofer had to replace an entire panel under the shingles and then re-roofed that section. He said the previous roof compay used the cheapest material ever, not even plywood board quality. We may run into other panels popping up in the future." I work too hard for my money to deal with shoddy workmanship and shady contractors. The guy on the phone said he would not honor his warranty. When I signed that contract, I was busy and one of the managers came to my office to obtain a signature. That itself is a red flag. I wished someone had warned me. And check out that BBB listing, there are 2.....look for the one with the complaint. Any firm that has 2 listings is already suspect. read more

When we first met Jim from this company..our impression of him and his presentation and expertise was great. The roofers came out and did what we thought was an excellent job...until it rained...We have skylights in our home. They were not placed back properly in their original position. It literally rained in my kitchen..The company sent someone back out to place the skylight in its original place and someone to repair and paint damaged kitchen ceiling. Then it rained again..the skylight that was leaking, leading us to replace the roof is now leaking again. This is ridiculous! I have never been so disgusted and disappointed in a company. We are now trying to reach them to come out and fix the problem... voicemail..voicemail..voicemail...If something is not done soon we are going to seek legal action! Had a full roof put on by another company and it leaked within 30 days. They fixed it, but 6 years later, it leaked again and the original company wouldn't honor their warranty. They needed to get some specialists out for the problem and I didn't hear from them for weeks. I called Richards and they came out that afternoon, gave me an estimate and a date that they could do the work. Great! Then the supervisor called and asked if they could come out in a couple of days because we were expecting storms and he didn't want the leak to make a bigger mess. Nice! Had many questions and miscellaneous items that needed to be done (sheet metal fixed, couple flat epdm roof spots re-done, leak solved, sheet metal painted, etc); also had to work job around carpenter. Save your time and money. Look else where. When they where done I spent 2 hours outside picking up nails because they didn't do a clean up. They came back the next day for money and my husband had to get up on the roof to show what was wrong. They "fixed" what was wrong but still a lot of issues. Now noticing "screw pops" in our ceiling along with a crack. Also every time the owner left the employees sat down to take a break on my patio set leaving their cigarette butts everywhere. We have a small roof what should have been done by noon if they would have showed up at 7:30 instead of a half hour late wasn't done until after 6 at night. read more

Do not honor their warranty-at least not anymore. I've put 4 1/2 roofs (one was a patch up job that they'd done previously) with Richards, but never again. 25 years ago we had them do a home in Royal Oak and the owner at that time was a straight-shooter. He did what he promised and did a good job. Since then, I had them do two homes in Troy and one more in Sterling Heights. The last one had leak issues after several years and we called them back on warranty. The new owner (last guy sold the business) would not honor the warranty, he wanted more money to do the work. This business is way to competitive to put up with that nonsense. I will never patronize Richards again and would advise others to look elsewhere. read more

Richard's Roofing was recommended by our realtor after my wife and I found water leaking behind our daughter's wall. A roof inspector told us the best course of action would be to rip up the old roof and completely redo it, since water could have been leaking in from multiple places and he found numerous other issues with the roof. We got quotes from two different roofers. Richard's Roofing (Jim) was great. They showed up the next day after I called with samples of what they would be putting down on the roof, understood our concerns about mold/rot damage and best of all, we were scheduled in as an "emergency" case and got a new roof within a week of signing the contract. As for the previous reviews that said they didn't clean up after themselves, i would have to say that they must have taken those reviews to heart, because they did a stellar job cleaning up afterwards. I give up, I guess if you don't have a big house or a ton of money, the company doesn't care if your roof leaks, 1o years of my roof leaking and half dozen tries for them to correct a poor installation and it still leaks. I paid for the job in full the day it was complete and my roof has leaked ever since. Jim has given me the run around over and over until the warranty ran out, Dale Richards told me that the vents that were installed in several properties are leaking and he is trying to get the company to do something, but my roof is still leaking and nothing is being done. I did not want to have to do this but Richards Roofing has left me no choice. It's been 1 year since I hired them to do a complete tear off and re-shingle my colonial in Troy. At the time it seemed to be an efficient team and quite frankly seemed to be doing ,what I thought, was a good job.Being it was January when the job was finished I made the mistake of not going out on roof and taking a look. The existing flashing where the 2nd story meets the 1st story garage roof and porch roof had been snipped/cut off and NOT replaced,I have talked to Dale(owner) numerous times this past year and each time it's been I'll have somebody over in 2 weeks. As of today 12-11-2018 it has NOT been repaired. I like trying to do business with local stores, contractors etc. They quoted me a good price and were local ! It now leaves me concerned about the lengthy warranty they provide(at time of sale) if they won't fix a known repair that could possibly lead to leaks in the future.
