Went to Schneider's Pub on Fourth of July for dinner. There were 7 of us and we had the best experience thanks to our amazing server Sonja. She was the only server working and also tended to the bar. This is a hole in the wall bar located on the Indy/Greenwood line off of 135. It is in an old strip mall. Being in a strip mall, there is tons of parking available. The pub is pretty old, or at least looks old. It is a locals bar. They have a full bar with seating and an adequate sized dining area. They are a couple of televisions in there that are usually playing sports and they have music in the background. The bartender/server was friendly enough. They have a menu with pub favorites like burgers, tenderloin, sandwiches, and pizza. They claim their pizza is the best, but whose isn't. They have daily food and drink specials that you can take advantage of and I hear that this is the place to be to catch a game. The pub is dimly lit, has a digital juke box, a pull tab machine and a couple of other video games. There is no pool table though. They host karaoke and live music periodically. I ordered the black and blue steak, with a side of steamed veggies and fries. It took about 20 minutes to get my food. I did not set the bar too high. Hey, I was ordering steak from a hole in the wall pub, so I was not disappointed. Yes, it was not like Ruth Chris or anything and the blue cheese was actually dressing, but it was not too bad, had a little flavor to it and filled my belly. This is an OK spot to hang out at, have a drink, catch up with old friends or make new ones. We Just had 2 of the worst tenderloins we have ever had: started with a filthy table. burnt bun, old withered tomatoes, forgot the onion,lettuce was limp and slathered with mayonnaise (had to scrape it off) the fries were just ok for frozen out of the bag crinkle fries the best the waitress could do was say "sorry about that" so I understand why there were only 5 people at the bar and one other table with employees eating. Used to like this place but not so much this time. The bartender was the only server for the bar patrons & most tables on a Thursday early afternoon. I saw 1 other server wait on 1 table. So maybe she works in the kitchen? Not sure. Bartender not overly friendly or helpful, just average. Probably too busy? Got a mushroom Swiss burger & coleslaw. Burger pretty good- but wish I had looked closer at the price first: $14.25 with one side!!! Not worth that for sure (not even a double patty). Sent coleslaw back- weird taste. My bloody Mary was good but in a smaller glass than most. Overall- place just ok, or less. Prob won't go back. read more

This is one place that I grew up driving by almost everyday, but if it wasn't for a good recommendation from my mother-in-law, we may have never stopped in. On October 19th 2022, my partner and I had visited Schneider's Pub. Upon entering, we were greeted with a very old-school feel of a restaurant. It was a decently sized, dark room filled with IU and Colts memorabilia. The football game was playing, while the neon signs were glowing. The atmosphere was definitely meant to be more intimate and they pulled it off well. When entering, no signs to direct customers were present, so we went ahead and sat down at the table next to the game playing. After about 15 minutes of not being greeted, my partner headed to the bar to grab menus. The bartender let us know that he just did not see us and was more than happy to help. Unfortunately, he also let us know that they were no longer serving food, but we did stay for drinks. No special drink menu was offered, but the bartender did bring us a old drink brochure. I chose a "out of the blue" which is made from blue curacao, vodka, and soda water. As the night went on, we had lots of laughs, especially with the partiers seated behind us. Earlier in the night, when the bartender had taken our IDs, he came to the realization that both of our 21st birthdays were in the last few weeks. That same bartender ended up bringing us both out "pineapple upside down" shots as a belated birthday wish. I had a great time the whole night, but that had really sold us on the establishment. In the future, I really hope to try their food as I am sure it would be great too. I feel like I didn't get to totally experience the restaurant without trying the food, but it wasn't a huge deal breaker for us. Our total came out to $12.95, which is great for three drinks, not including the shots. Overall, I had a really good time here and it far exceeded my expectations. We weren't sure if it was worth staying, but we are glad we did. It is a great place for cheap drinks and fun. read more

There for IU game that started at noon. The place started to fill up for the game. Problem: 1 bartender and no waitresses. The bartender did her absolute best to keep up but for God's sake, get her some help. One person waiting on the the entire bar is ridiculous. Food was great and bartender did a great job, but she's not a miracle worker. Get this fixed. read more

Used to be a GREAT place to eat. Change of owners and letting Debra leave are the two worst things to happen to this pub. I've given them several chances, but I'm so done with Schneider's. Everytime my husband and I go, they mess up our pizza order and the service is horrible. They only had the cook and the bartender this evening at 5:30. we waited for 10 minutes and left. The couple that came in behind us got up and left also. We keep trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but they always don't show up to do better. read more

Had lunch with a friend that was nice, but service was below par. We even got our own menus.Bartender was on her phone showing other customers pictures of some kind and we had to end up waiting and waiting, when we told her we needed to go she was back on the phone so we ended up leaving the $$ for our bill (WE DIDNT EVEN GET) guesstimating by looking on menu our selves to figure it out. Update to my previous review, unfortunately the food has not improved. We've been there a couple times in the past several weeks and it is still not the great place we used to really like. Too bad. The drinks and service are still fine but if this place doesn't start improving their kitchen staff it won't be around much longer. We were there on a Saturday evening last week and it wasn't even busy. In the past, you'd be lucky to get a seat. Hope they take the hint. read more

They need to fix the staffing shortage on weekends. If you go in there on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, expect terrible service. They have one employee working the floor. That same employee is also the bartender. Waited too long to take my order and serve drinks. The employee did the best she could but it wasn't good enough. Also the new layout of the dining room is not cool. Schneider's has had the same layout for 35 years. Why mess with that? Food is still good but not good enough to make me want to come back. read more

This is one of the hidden treasures of the south side. This place fits the definition of dive bar perfectly. After looking at some photos on yelp, I decided I needed to try this stombolli. It didn't disappoint. Its very large and fairly priced. The fiance had chicken melt sandwich. It looked good but I could see the stromboli envy in her eye. This is an old school bar with the wood paneling on the walls. Don't expect any crazy exotic craft beers. Yuengling is about at exotic as it gets. I'm going to be back for more stromboli. read more

Over the past few years, I have gone to Schneiders on Thursday nights with a group of 5-10 friends. Went there last week with a group of 10 and we were about 2/3 of their business at 5pm. We've been moving around to different establishments but took a vote last week and decided we would make Schneiders our regular place. Went there last night (Thurs 4/11/24) with a group of 4 and it was UGLY!!!! The female bartender was also the only waitress and when she finally got around to taking our drink order she immediately informed us that somebody else was sitting at our table (even though no one was sitting at our table but us). When we sat down there was a single beer glass on the table with about 2 sips of beer left so it looked like the table just hadn't been cleaned yet but we offered to move but the bartender/waitress said no, that was ok to remain seated. She then let us know that unlike the previous week when we were there, she wasn't going to be going back and forth to get things so please let her know everything we needed first time around. I ordered a $2.50 special Michelob Ultra Light but she said that was the previous night's special even though it was clearly listed on the chalk board on the way in the door as a $2.50 draft Michelob Ultra Light special (believe I would have just honored the price and then changed the chalk board). When she took our drink order I thought I was dealing with the "Soup Nazi" from the Seinfeld TV show the way she barked her questions with not a hint of a smile .... and I told her so which she didn't like. We were informed that the only waitress did not come in until 530pm and it was now 5 so rather than deal with this nasty and rude bartender/waitress any further, we decided to wait until 530 to place our food order. Naturally we sat there for the next half hour seething over the way this bartender/waitress treated us. We decided to leave cash on the table and move on. One guy had a "jack & coke" and left $10 for this 4 or $5 dollar drink. Another guy left $6 for a $3 beer and I left $3 for an ice tea. I was the last person going out the door and the bartender/waitress shouted at me, "did he pay for his "jack & coke?" I said "yes, he left $10 ... think that will cover it?" Needless to say, our group of 10 will never come back to Schneiders again unless the service improves and the "wonderful" bartender/waitress we dealt with is no longer employed at Schneiders. read more

My new local haunt. Been going weekly for about a year now and off and on prior to that. The owner and servers are friendly, as are the regulars. Good food and good beer specials. Nothing fancy, but certainly not a dive. Just a good place to visit for consistent food and fun. Prices are reasonable as well. When you enter this establishment you will notice that an older crowd hang-out here. And, typically when there's an older crowd there is more of an emphasis on food instead of booze. This is one of those places. The food is really good. Pub grub with some Hoosier fare and good homecookin' thrown in. Meatloaf sandwiches, reubens, burgers, nachos, pizzas, steaks, fried fish, etc. And, where else can you get fried chicken livers? Yeah, it's not smoke-free but it's tolerable. The smoke doesn't bother me while in there but I do notice the smell on my clothes later. read more

So I know I have reviewed Schneider's but I am not sure where it went... Schneider's is a locally owned & operated pub. The offer great food & drinks. You will often find the owner, Kevin, tending the bar! The wait staff is attentive and laid back. On my most recent visit they had a stand up night with some local comedians. It was so refreshing not to have to pay a cover and still be entertained!!! I believe the third Saturday of the month is karaoke and Wednesdays are trivia night!!! read more

I recently moved into the area. I thought this looked like a nice neighborhood pub. It is a neighborhood pub for sure. It's a clique. If you aren't part of the clique, good luck. People kind of stare at you, like a time I was on the road and stopped some place to eat in Kentucky. I couldn't wait to get out of there.. It just felt awkward. Same crowd which are good friends. Service sucks. Food is bar food at best and not consistent. You get the feeling nobody working there likes their job. Never thanks for coming or come back. That is reserved for just a few. A group who comes daily to drink and spend money are not treated well. Those who come once a week to eat are treated better. It is like they think it is a restaurant not a bar. Don't understand their thinking. With less people coming in you would think they would try to figure it out. You would also think if they think they're a restaurant they would try to have better food. I have also noticed cooks don't wear gloves or hairnets. We are locals and pop in for what is usually good Friday night. Only one server on the floor. She was pleasant and did the best she could with a good attitude but we got our salad and pizza at the same time. And while we were waiting for food had to go to the bar to get a fresh round of drinks. Salad was good. Pizza not so good. Pizza was so bad we left 2/3 on the table (3-dining).while we mentioned it was not good and/or not worth taking home they still asked three times if we wanted a box to take it home. I've been to the pub three times for lunch with hopes of great food and great service. It hasn't happened yet and don't know what draws so many for lunch with exception that there are few choices within a few blocks when really leaving 135 for better food and service would not be a stretch for me because the wait on the food is not timely either. Each time with time on my hands so to speak have counted the number of customers. All three times there's been more than 25 and still just 1 server who had bar customers to tend to also. The menu is vast but I went with just minestrone soup this last time which thought would come with my friend's order. Uh, no. I am accustomed to waiting until all at the table are served "to dig in" which I'm glad I did because the soup was already just barely warm and I'm sorry tasted and looked like watered down from a can soup. The prices are very reasonable but obviously right in line with the amount served to us. It does have tv's and if you like a dim lit place to hang out I suppose pretty good. I haven't been there at night to see the kareoke or other nightlife there so I can't comment on those things. I'd like to think it's a fun place to sing the night away. read more

The food is absolutely terrible, even for bar food. The 3 different times I've been here the waiters/waitresses were all rude and most of the time no where to be found. The atmosphere is depressing -- rundown decor, regulars who look like they've just gotten out of prison, and maybe even a few roach droppings. After a reservation at another place fell through, we came to Schneider's and immediately found a seat in view of multiple TVs so we could watch the Butler game. It was a friendly, comfortable environment and our drinks and food came out quickly. The cheeseburger sliders were the best I've ever had. Meat cooked perfectly and the buns were toasted on one side and fluffy soft on the other. I would have given them 5 stars, but the fried pickles were way too salty to eat and our waitress wasn't as attentive toward the end of our night there. But overall it was a good experience and I would definitely go back! read more
