Went there with my wife this afternoon. We sat out back on the patio and were served by Bridgid who took excellent care of us, despite being short-staffed. I had the ribs with fries and a salad. Ribs are well-smoked, and fall-off-the-bone (St. Louis cut). Wife had the smoked chicken, and smoky veggies. Veggies were ok, the chicken was moist, tender, flavorful, and you guessed it - fall-off-the -bone. The food and service were good and I'll be adding Schmidt's to our list of go-to establishments inLeesburg. read more

We were outside for happy hour. The staff was a group of young people who spent more time socializing with each other than attending to the customers. One young staff kissed her boyfriend (also on the staff) and then he left. They all had sodas and french fries and sat there eating and talking as if they were at a party. The one young girl sat and ate french fries with her fingers licked her fingers and then worked the register without washing hands. Then eventually all the staff joined in to eat the fries while working. I found it offensive that they would eat and I felt it was somewhat of a health violation. read more

I enjoy coming to this place because it's such a cool venue. I enjoy the music on the weekends. Matt is the hardest working bartender in the business. But he's running himself ragged because they're understaffed. They need some competent staff to help Matt. The food is good. Drinks are good. Only redeeming quality was the food. Worst service experience we've had in years. Took ~45 mins to get our first drinks and water. Had to ask multiple times for everything. Truly a terrible place for horrible service. We waited 2.5 hours to be seated and when we were seated they would not serve us as we were not with the people at the table who invited us to sit with them. We were told by the staff before we sat down that this was our table. The manager later said it was not. People who got on the wait list after us got tables before us. I spent 30 minutes at the bar and could not get service. I got a free glass of water after checking with the hostess on why were were waiting over two hours. We were told at 6:00 PM, when we had arrived, that our wait time was 45 minutes to an hour. 20 minutes after waiting 2.5 hours we were given another table and were not served. I have been going to 14 Loudoun Street for years. I'm not going back. Waiting at the DMV is actually a better experience. read more

So the food and ambiance here is AMAZING!! It's a must visit. However, one HUGE issue that will keep me from coming back. We were appalled that food service comes in to-go containers. This in itself isn't a big deal at all, except there's no recycling and it's ALL PLASTIC; to include the beer cups for drafts. I was offered a can of beer and no plastic cup, hooray! Really disappointing and not that hard to fix. I sincerely hope the owners consider the environmental impact of their choices. I was really looking forward to eating at this place since it's new to the area. I have to say that this was probably the worst BBQ in the area. We ordered the pulled pork and it was mostly fat. Sides were okay. We tried the potato salad and it tasted like it came from the grocery store. Sweet potato fries are pretty good. The smoked vegetables were bland. This was my first time trying the restaurant and I was super excited after seeing great reviews. Unfortunately I am very disappointed after spending $20 for a brisket sandwich with two sides. I specifically asked the assistant manager who waited on me for a brisket sandwich with the tender pieces of brisket. I explain to him that sometimes brisket can be very dry and it was my first time there so I wasn't sure about their brisket, which is why I wanted to be sure I got tender meat. You can see from the photo attached that they missed the mark. I got thick dry slabs of chewy over cooked meat. I can only think because one of the slices had a large layer of fat on top of it that they took that to mean it was moist. Layers of fat is not synonymous with moist, tender meat. Had the mill actually been delicious I could have overlooked a high price tag. Unfortunately, I'm left with having paid $20 for two dry slabs of meat on a toasted bun with fries and mac & cheese. read more

Judging from their ribs I'd put this in the no column. Stopped in mid-afternoon not busy and tried the ribs. Brutally overcooked. Dry and hard to chew. The two sauces we got were out there. The spicy was sweet and not very spicy. The Carolina mustard sauce was mostly mustard and not really a bbq sauce. Cornbread was cake and not cornbread. The seating was a bit bizarre, it seems all of it was outside. Don't quite understand the long term future but it was annoying in the middle of the day when it was 88F outside. We walked in and had one round of drinks and appetizers. Party of 5. Seated upstairs. Ordered a variety of apps and drinks as well. Ordered a 2nd round and were told by the manager to leave as we were 'hammered'. This was not only untrue, but also offensive. This was our dinner stop for the evening and the opportunity for the 5 of us to catch up. Being asked to leave, and then being told we were communicating in a way that the manager couldn't validate was offensive and something that will impact our choices in the future. The manager was not comfortable in discussing his choice (other than they close in an hour) and made us feel unworthy. Schmidts Barbeque should be at the top of your DO NOT GO list when you are hungry and in Leesburg, Virginia. This was our second attempt at having an enjoyable evening meal. The service was so slow that we thought perhaps we had contracted an incurable disease and the staff were afraid eye contact would cause the to get the disease. Finally the runner/busboy took our order. Yes the busboy, because the one waitress was overwhelmed with guests. While the food was good the experience was very wanting. The climax of the evening was when my wife's credit card did a disappearing act for a short time. The card reappeared but the situation resulted in a talk with the manager. The manager was apologetic about the experience and the card issue. My advice to him was dump the live musicians they are paying and hire more staff. I also stated that the foyer of the restaurant was more of a dumpster than an inviting place to wait for our table. I put these issues squarely on the shoulders of the owner(s) who appear to be uninvolved in the success of their place of business. Considering our first visit was right after Schmidts opened was disaster that caused me to contact the owner to express concern, I was hopeful that two years had worked out the issues. No such luck. Final thought, put Schmidts Barbeque on your DO NOT GO list. There are better places to spend your money and get a good meal and service. read more

Would come back for the spicy margarita alone. Wings were massive and the Buffalo sauce we delicious - my wife enjoyed the bleu cheese sauce also. The pork sandwiches were huge and fantastic. Oh...my gosh.....I love, love this place! The service, food prices and environment were just all amazing. If you have a problem with the food here, then you just have a personal issue. This was my first visit. So far I've had the smothered BBQ fries, the brisket tacos, and the wings and they were all to die for! I live an hour plus away but I plan on making frequent visits to Leesburg just for Schmidt's BBQ. I have to try every thing on the menu. read more

I was hoping for better, the only way I can put it, I really want this place to succeed. The outdoor seating is great, and having frequented the prior establishments here, the live music, bar, etc were always a big hit. Sadly on this evening, the outdoor seating was the highlight of the evening. My neighbor and I sat down, and 20 seconds after we were seated, two different servers immediately came up to us asking us to order - whoa now, with QR codes, it takes a bit of time to get it all rolling, so just relax a bit. The server had no answer as to beer on tap, so we finally walked over and asked someone behind the bar who was quick with an answer - riddle solved. Beer came almost immediately after thankfully. At that point, we went ahead and ordered only what was described as the best brisket ever eaten, and a house sauce that was, and I quote "to die for". We both took the bait. Very bad decision. Within two minutes of ordering, the meal arrived - seriously, that should have been concern #1. The brisket was sadly some of the worst I've ever eaten, and I've eaten alot of barbeque in my years; my friend stated the brisket was the most dry he'd ever eaten. The house sauce, honestly, I'm not sure what was in it, but they should stop serving it; it was terrible, and sadly we both hoped to douse the brisket to make it edible with the sauce, to no avail. Atleast the server responded when we asked for some followup Carolina sauce in effort to moisturize the meat. My friend's side of fries were ice cold, and the macaroni and cheese had a gooey texture of seemingly overflavored noodles. I guess the bonus was the M&C was a huge size, so I ate that instead of finishing my brisket. The cornbread was nice, not too dry, so that too was a pleasant surprise. Frankly, given the prices, not sure we'll be back and we both live a few blocks away - too many other good barbeque places, but for their own good, I hope they get it right soon or maybe the Falalala Bar should make a grand re-emergence for the holiday. read more

I tried to order barbecue here for delivery, because of Covid, but the noise was so great in the restaurant that the person attempting to take my order was unable to hear. I tried four times to give her my credit card number, unsuccessfully. I followed up with an email to the company, but heard nothing back. The barbecue may be fabulous, but I wouldn't know. In this time of online and telephone ordering I would expect them to facilitate call ins. Three stars rather than one because the person on the phone did her best. Update!
