I normally don't like sporting goods stores, but this one has girl stuff! They always have beautiful things for the home, especially over Christmas. I always try to get a few ornaments on sale after the holidays. I love the brands of women's clothes, my favorite being; Free People! Of course they have lots of doggy toys and treats for your fur babies! If you're not afraid of heights, take a ride on the inside Ferris wheel! Review Visit: July 1st, 2015 A GIANT FERRIS WHEEL! Why am I writing about a store that is similar to Dick's Sporting Goods or Bass Pro? A GIANT FERRIS WHEEL INSIDE AND ONE THAT YOU CAN RIDE! That's right, Scheels has a giant ferris wheel in the middle of the store for you and your (insert person here) to ride. That's just what a friend, my girlfriend and I did. We drove down to Scheels to check out the ferris wheel. We did other tourist-y things as well but that was our main goal for the day. Yeah, they have a giant store (the size of a football stadium it felt like) with a million things to buy for hunting, camping, fishing, (insert outdoor activity here), but the main draw for us was the ferris wheel. I think it was $2/person to ride? It was a stomach-dropping ride as the seat came up and over the top. The top is easily 50 feet above the ground. What I was surprised to see were the many other things to interact with. They had a giant throne to sit on. There was a open-mouthed fish that I got my hand stuck in (not literally). There was a giant bear that was able to bear the silly photos we took with it. There was a stuffed wildlife scene with various fauna and floral items. Honestly, if you have a fun group of (insert people here) to visit Scheels with, do it. It's more than just a store. It's an experience. And who else can say they rode an indoor ferris wheel that was in a store? Mark that one off the bucket list. read more

We were in Springfield for a competition and heard about Scheels. We were told it was like a bass pro on steroids and they weren't kidding! They carry everything! Hunting, fishing, camping stuff. Found perfect size and style for wrestling shoes for my 6 year old grandson when 4 other places didn't have them

This is the kind of place where one could easily spend hours. There is something here for kids and adults of all ages. If it has to do with outdoor activities, sports or hobbies, you've come to the right place. Downstairs, you'll find outdoor wear and apparel. They carry well known brand names like Patagonia which is known for its lightweight and warmth clothing especially for hiking / camping. They carry Keen - a quality hiking shoe line. They carry Trek bicycles - conventional or electric models. Downstairs you'll also find a cafe where you can relax with a snack or tasty ice cream cone. (I had a hot white chocolate mocha - it was great!). Not far, and in the middle of downstairs is a huge Ferris wheel that must be near 50 feet in height?!, and is a favorite amongst the kids (imagine that). Upstairs you'll find golfing, fishing, camping, hunting and shooting hardware and accessories. There's also a candy store with homemade candies. I purchased a lightweight, 7 ft "Elite Max Vengeance", Abu Garcia rod and reel combo (because once a fisherman, always a fisherman, ha), 330 yards of 8 pound Trilene line, some swivels and hooks. The rod and reel were on sale - 33.3% off! I got a great deal! Checkout was quick and friendly. I spoke to several employees and they were all very helpful and friendly. I have purchased both fishing and hunting gear and supplies from Scheels in Springfield, Illinois. All of their service personnel were extraordinarily helpful, knowledgeable and polite. The selection of all types of sporting gear is super. I wanted to highlight the exemplary service which I most recently received in the gun department--I was lucky enough to have 2 salespeople assist me with the acquisition of the modern-day equivalent of the M-14 rifle which we had used in the USMC back in the 60s--the salesman who worked with me was very knowledgeable about the M1A and it even turned out it was on a special sale! Overall, it's a very nice store. I came in with my family and shopped around, specifically to get me a new pair of shoes. We went in, found the pair I was looking for, and asked for the size I needed. A young man was assisting us at first, and he was very kind. She shoe ended up being a bit too small, so I got half a size up. During this whole interaction an older worker (probably mid thirties) had been hovering around, making me feel a little wary. The young man went back to get my shoes and while I was waiting, the older man came over very quickly and asked me what I needed. I explained that I was already being helped, but he went to the back for the new pair of shoes anyway. I watched him take the pair of shoes from the younger man and bring them over. He handed them off and stood by very closely (less than 5 feet) while i tried the shoe on. Im not much for social interaction, so the overbearing help and hovering really put me off and I will probably never go again if every interaction will be this overwhelming. Not to mention it was the most expensive pair of shoes I have ever bough, and could have bought them for cheaper online if i didnt need them in such a pinch. read more

The people behind the counters we're apathetic and did not help and no nothing as my 14-year-old daughter go back-and-forth struggling to figure out where to order and where to pay. I was in Springfield for a business meeting and my hotel was next door. I had some time to kill and wanted to check this place out. This place is mind-blowing. It's like Target, Kohl's, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Dick's all merged together. There's a Ferris wheel smack in the middle of the building and other little gems throughout the store including a candy shop! I kept running into one of the managers as I meandered about and each time we had a small conversation about where Scheels started and where they might expand to and just an overall great convo every time we ran into each other. What the heck is this place? I've never heard of it and somebody recommended it to me. OMG! It was surreal, I felt like a child at a carnival again. Guys you walk in and there's a HUGE aquarium. I looked at it for 5 minutes and then noticed there's a freaking carousel behind it! Like a real size, working carousel! Every corner you turn there's MORE!!! All I can say is WOW! We stopped by here as we decided to take a little detour on our way back from St. Louis - the building itself was so impressive from the outside, we just had to stop in. This is a sports enthusiasts paradise - and a great playground for the kids...we're talking ferris wheel, nascar race simulator, bowling lanes, shooting ranges, a restaurant and a beautiful aquarium arch at the entry way. There are also animatronic figures of presidents reciting their famous speeches. I mean, all this and tons of sporting and hunting equipment and apparel. Pricewise, I thought it was on par with Dick's and Sports Authority (both of which I only shop their sales) - but coming here is so much more than just picking up a pair of sale gym shoes - it truly is an experience and we hope to return very soon. Store is immaculate - it's been open for about 3 years, but if you didn't know that, you'd think they just opened - it is pristine! Thank goodness for taking a different road home. This store is Huge! There's even a fariswheel inside. There is a large selection of sports apparel and equipment. You will pay extra to get everything under one roof so be prepared for that. I took my 2006 Bowtech Tribute in to get string and cables changed out. $167.00. I left instruction as how I wanted string attachments placed back on. I also asked if he knew about checking cam timing after new strings and cables. I was assured that they knew how to replace the strings and cables and that he had made notes on my wants for string attachments and the return of old cables and string. When I returned to pick up the bow the string had none of my specified attachments, the cams were visibly out of timing and they could not find my old string or cable. I am sorry that I ever went there. I am wholly unsatisfied and made the tech aware of it along with the three other techs standing there looking anywhere but at me. They offered no excuse for the improper timing issue or compensation for the loss of my personal property, a set of usable strings and cables. I now have to go to Pittsfield to have my bows cam timing corrected. These incompetents working in the archery shop are a disgrace to good business and should be used for cart retrieval with proper training. I will never again cross the threshold of a Scheels. read more
