Please don't get me wrong. This is a failing mall. It is nothing like the mall I remember from my childhood. But, the stores that are left, and the food spots that are left are doing their best. The workers at all of them were helpful and polite. We found some decent sales and the food was affordable. But, there's not much selection for restaurants. And there's plenty of missing amenities. I try to walk here a couple of times a week, its climate controlled, with security. 2 laps is supposed to equal a mile. There are still some nice shops here even though there are no real anchor stores, except maybe Dicks Sporting goods. I like Lost Worlds, Dumb Records, and some nice clothing stores. I wish some other stores could be coaxed in. Maybe they could try things they did in the past, such an antique shows, fashion shows for fall and spring, and the holidays. Years ago, they had first responders and police departments displaying vehicles and doing fingerprinting for children. A Costco would be nice or a furniture store. Update. Went to the mall today and saw the Christmas trees. It was very well done, I hope for more people to participate next year!! Maybe they could contact a train group and have them set up a christmas train. Or the mall could utilize the empty store fronts and put in some decorations in the windows. Some additional photo opportunities would also be nice. Gingerbread cookies would be a hit as would live christmas music or swing choirs. Contact schools and churches. Having worked at this mall for an extended period of time, seeing its decline was immensely depressing. The last time I was there (2-3 months ago, weekday after 5-6pm) it was a ghost town. Back in the day there was always a little after work bustle, but not any more. Most of the good stores have closed down and are empty shells now, and the few remaining stores aren't big attractions. Where's Forever 21? Anthropologie? Sephora? Lush? Vans? Zumiez? Gap? Hollister? This mall has run out long time tenants like Cookie Factory because of their unrelenting rental space fees. Sure you may get a good deal at first opening, but eventually that lease runs out and then they bleed the vendors dry. The stores close because they lose money because no good, large, brand name stores remain, so fewer people come to the mall and they don't make profits any longer or even enough to make their astronomical rental fees. The management changed 3 times in the 6~ years I worked there, and got worse every time. It's like they just want to get as much money as they can then run. The costs of renting space are astronomical, they can't attract new stores, and any decent store has long since been run out. If you want to go to a mall, take the hour and a half drive to St. Louis. Even the Galleria has better options. read more

Really basic shopping mall in Springfield, IL. Not a big space but still plenty of empty stores. Really makes you want to shop online!

They got a REALLY cool comic, video game, and toy shop called Killen's in it. What more do you want? THey have the staple Hot Topic and Spencer's that seem to be the only stores that can stay open in this new economy! The Macy's is still standing. Overall a cool mall better than many in Illinois, a great walk! read more

Stopped here when we were in Springfield since we needed to kill some time before a show. I've never been before so I can't say if it has gone downhill or uphill, etc, but it was nice to walk around and see what they had. I found a really interesting freeze dried candy store and got some goodies there. They had some unique things to offer in some of the stores, and it was clean. read more

From the outside, it looks pretty nice. Inside, it smells like an old food court. The escalators were shut down. Most of the storefronts seem to be closed. Stores are always going out of business. The carousel could be better. I think it could use updating. but kids like it anyways. The little train is fun for kids too. The best thing about this place is Auntie Anne's pretzels. Usually the busiest place too. The workers are always friendly, and the pretzels are fresh and hot. read more

This is a nice mall overall. During our visits to the area over the years, it had always appeared that this mall was on its way out, but we were surprised during this visit. The interior seems to have been renovated at some time and feels more inviting. There were a large number of stores between the two floors which were a welcome sight (compared to so many malls that have a lot of empty spaces). The food mall has very few choices and it looked like this area actually decreased in size. The food was fine, but nothing spectacular. There is a nice children's play area with a few things for the kids to play on. It's kind of small, so I imagine that it is overflowing come winter. Mall security was prevalent and visible, which made us feel secure as we wandered around. Overall, it's a nice mall to wile away time when you have nothing else to do. read more

A smaller mall in Springfield, it has all the necessary shops you would expect from the mall. What it really seems to be lacking in is a decent food court. Lots of kids in the mall, but then again it was winter and not a lot to do in the area it would seem. I can tell you that the staff at the mall do a great job of keeping the place tidy and while I was at the mall a very nice gentleman made sure I was comfortable (a friendly smile and hello... what else do you need?) and even took my tray when I was done. If you are looking for a place with the basics, this is it. If you want to eat, go somewhere else. read more

The other day I was in Simply Southern and I had this amazing worker named Hannah. She helped me out with all my questions and helped me find every item I was looking for so I just had to get her name since she was so good at her job. Whoa...renovation?! Excellent. The pink and light green tiled floors are gone, the weird lighting is gone. It's a more comforting, welcome beckoning of light and sound now. Selection of stores= some hits and some misses. If you're looking for pets, they're no longer here. If you're looking for some awesome pet food and treats, they're here! Received a $250 parking ticket for parking in a handicapped space that was not even a handicapped spot! Went to the mall management and they said there was nothing they could do, need to contest with the city. Went to court and there were 3 other people there with the same issue!!! Of course the city held up all of our fines even though we had pictures proving we were not in the handicapped spot.... I will do my shopping online and watch the mall continue to crumble from lack of business due to unfair practices and their active cooperation with the city on corruptly handing out parking citations. read more

Now, maybe I'm missing something but there isn't a lot to do in Springfield. Especially when its cold and freezing rain outside. We decided to find the nearest mall to walk around for a bit. We got here late on a Saturday night and it was practically dead which was weird (any mall in Chicago-land area would be pretty busy on a Saturday night). It appears this mall just had a renovation because it was really nice...and clean. Tons of stores (Bath & Body Works, Loft, Limited, Express...etc) and food options. The only thing that I thought was odd was the carpeted floor. Seems that would get super dirty and trap allergens/funk. read more

It never fails! Every time we go to the mall my kid has to get on this. It's never crowded. The "gatekeeper" is always friendly. The ride is a nice amount of time. You are not rushed to get off. Even my husband and I enjoy riding with our child. Oh plus you can sign your child up for birthday special. We received a certificate in the mail allowing for my kid and 6 of her friends one free ride the month of her birthday! That was pretty cool. read more

Alright, this mall is an improvement from Peoria's! They offer a few more things that I have been missing including Teavana, H&M, and a Francesca's that has a lot more to offer than the one at Grand Prairie in Peoria. The location is great too so if you can't find something at the mall, there are several nearby stores you can still check out! Lots of restaurants too. read more

As big malls seem to closing White Oaks is doing just fine I've been shopping there since it opened mostly sears and spencers it's been the anchor for a huge shopping area which includes everything you would want the mall property is surrounded by restaurants and other types of services if you can't find what you want in the mall itself you only have to go less than a mile to find what your looking for. read more

I grew up in this mall so I have many special memories. Anything you want is here and unlike the the newest stupid trend of outdoor malls where you have to walk outside for miles or drive store to store, this one is all inside to avoid the harsh weather.
