We went to see the Peter Rabbit story and in the beginning I did not like it. for some weird reason the actresses added in "6 7", They name called A LOT like Brat, jerk, "worst bunny ever", naughty boy, etc. a lot of bullying & lying in this. and for me, I personally don't allow my kids to name call or bully. so for them to act this out in front of a whole kids field trip baffles me. toward the end did get better but we are, as a collective, supposed to be trying to make this world a better place by raising good humans. This kind of stuff does not help that... I'm disappointed in this theatre for letting our children down blindly right before their eyes. read more

I love musical theater, but I don't love the cost to attend live theater. Thankfully, Scera offers amazing theater at a fraction of the cost! I went with some friends to see "The Addams Family" and it was a different and fun show! I would recommend going to the Scera and purchasing your tickets at their location instead of online or over the phone. Online, they were going to charge a $4.50 service fee per ticket, and I just didn't want to pay the extra cost. Thankfully I was able to stop by the theater a few weeks before I planned on attending, and only had to pay the $14. They have beautiful stained glass windows in the lobby areas and it has a cozy theater feel. I can't wait to go back again soon! read more

If you'd like to take a small step back in time and appreciate art the way it USED to be, check out the SCERA. It's a lovely theater, rich in history, and oozes charm. We had the opportunity recently to visit for a live music performance. Tickets were sold online and did charge a convenience fee, which is annoying, but pretty typical anywhere these days. Because the theater is small and often sells out on larger performances, I didn't research to see if we could buy tickets at the door. I'd gather not, as I didn't see a box office during our event. Concessions are sold onsite, and are reasonable, although limited in selection. The staff running the concessions consisted of almost solely teenagers, so be patient with them-it's likely their first job. Ushers and folks at the doors to check tickets are more experienced and very friendly. I wonder if they are community volunteers that have been with the SCERA for many years and could tell some neat stories about the property. The seats are comfortable. I noticed a few double seats on the ends of some rows. Are those just extra wide or are they made for snuggling? I might have to check those out a little more next time I visit. read more

I wanted to take my 4yo daughter to her first musical and found Scera's children's musicals that are only 1-hour long and appropriate for kids of all ages. How magical!! I didn't know what to expect, but the cast and crew of "Captain Louie" was professional, practiced, and so full of energy and excitement. It was the perfect introduction for my daughter into musical theater. They had a simple set but costume changes and simple props, plus a lovely score and a friendly story that was easy to follow for my preschooler. The venue itself is intimate and cozy, but well-kept and updated. The extra surprise was the concessions stand, which is jam-packed with everything you could want at a theater (and surprisingly affordable prices!) so I could spoil my little one with treats during the play (I've never been able to eat popcorn at a musical!) There is plenty of parking out back. Loved our first experience at Scera and can't wait to return for another show! read more

It's hard to believe that I've made it this far into my adult life without ever having visited the Scera. I mean no, I'm not a Utah County resident. But even so, even outside of the native land of its location, it seems everyone at some point has made a visit to this institution to see a movie, or some play, or a concert, or some family member doing something. The drought ended for me recently when I went to see a ballet. It wasn't so much the show as the connection I had to it, but I was fascinated to make it inside the storied walls. The theater has a history and a legacy, as you can see by the many photos and old school throwback items of memorabilia strewn throughout. Old timey country folks, up-and-coming-but-now-famous young stars, it seems they've all made a stop here. The building is old, but not too terribly dated. There's a small concessions area, a movie area and the theatre/stage with two levels of seating. It's not a huge space, so there aren't bad seats in the house. I watched the ballet from the middle section down below and was only confused by the "double" seats they offer... what exactly are those for? There aren't major blockbuster shows or casts that come through, so you can find affordably priced tickets to plays done by local theater companies. And maybe buy tickets to a country star that had that one song 15 years ago. read more

Love this little Theater and have enjoyed seeing a few plays here. Sound/audio is definitely better than Kingsbury Hall! Theater is small, and the acting has been awesome too! The only negative thing is that sitting on the main floor it was difficult to see around the people sitting in front of me. I kept having to move my head to see the stage because the person in front of me was blocking the view, and the slant of the seating is minimal, which was annoying! Would I go again? Yes, just hope there is a shorter person sitting in the row in front! read more

My husband and I went to the outdoor theater a few weeks ago and saw Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. We weren't expecting much, since its a mostly volunteer show, but we were pleasantly surprised. The actors did a great job and the leads had some pretty incredible voices. The sound system was good as were the sets. The stage is a beautiful little outdoor amphitheater in the middle of a park. You can bring your own blankets and chairs or they have special lawn chairs that you can rent for $1. They have a variety of snacks as well that are pretty reasonably priced, such as papa johns pizza, popcorn, hot dogs, etc. They have all sorts of fun and inexpensive family activities throughout the summer, like showing old disney films. I would definitely see another production at Scera. read more

We went here to see the latest Warren Miller movie. This is a nice venue for that and a beautiful theater with cool architecture. I have heard that there are lots of cool things to see here and I'll post a longer review once i have had a chance to check some of them out. read more

The Scera is a great place for family entertainment. The theater shows new movies and the theater has concerts, plays and musicals put on by local talent and some outside performers. Summertime is the best time to go see a concert or a musical at the Scera. Bring a blanket to sit on the hill or pay $1 for a chair. Bring a blanket anyway because it gets chilly by 9pm outside. read more

Lots of memories of movies here as a kid. Before I saw Kung Fu Panda here, the last movie I'd sat in this theatre for was The Lion King...THE FRIGGIN' LION KING! How old am I?! Old enough that Jonathan Taylor Thomas was way bigger than Beiber in my day. Theatre is kinda old and dated, but they are working on it. It's kinda fun in a sense you'll only understand after attending. Good projection and sound though as it was recently updated. Seems to cater to families and kids esp which is cool if your a kid or a family. Hit up the Maverick gas station next door for treats to sneak in. read more

I remember going to the Scera when the walls were blue and there was a big pink couch in the women's bathroom. Well baby, you've come a long way! (Although, I miss the pink couch) If you have not discovered the Scera or have been away so long you've forgotten how great it is, go. Please. They have (fairly) recently renovated the main theater - no more broken chairs or peeling walls. It looks beautiful! The sound quality is surround and who can beat that massive screen? It's still the biggest in Orem, if not the State. So, it looks nice but the number one reason for revisiting the Scera is the price. Scera is non-profit which is reason enough to go. But because of this, they are wicked cheap for movies and you can always find a seat! Not to mention their concessions - run by sweet, bright eyed volunteers - which are easily a couple dollars less than what you'll find at one of the newer theaters. read more

I've had several negative experiences with Scera. The most recent is signing up for their Celebrity Competition. This is my second time signing up for the Scera Shell Outdoor Theater Competition. The first time, I had negative experiences with the management of the show, some 7 year old won the competition because she was 7 years old and who can compete with a little blonde girl singing Whitney Houston? There were not age groups or any other divisions, so the whole thing was just a publicity and marketing scheme. I only signed up the second time because they made age divisions and genre divisions which seemed more fair. Also, my nieces were visiting from out of state and they are infatuated with singers and performers. I've sung Owlz anthems for 5 years and they always get a kick out of seeing me perform. So, I picked one of my niece's favorite songs and signed up for the competition, thinking she would just love seeing her aunt sing her favorite song on a stage. It's $30 to sign up. All the ads say that the finalists performance is opening for Richard Marx. I had out of town commitments for the middle of August, so I strategically set my performance date for when I would be in town. I also noted I would be in town for the finalist performance at the Richard Marx concert. My payment receipt told me I would get an instructional email From Shawn Mortenson the week before the performance. I waited and waited. No email. Two days before, I emailed him and asked about the instructional email. At the end of the day, he sent the email, after I had already done research on my own on their website for instructions. While doing my research I discovered (in the center of a long paragraph on the website) that the semi-finals will be a few weeks before the Richard Marx concert- when I would be out of town. I wrote Shawn and Mitch the next morning explaining the situation. Mitch wrote back right away but no response from Shawn. There was no point in participating if I could not be around to advance in the competition. No one ever said anything about semi-finals, the Richard Marx concert at the end of August was the only date plastered on all the ads. Anyway, I could not get a hold of Shawn after calls and emails, so I went in to the Scera and tracked him down weeks later. He back peddled and told me that he had already paid the band with my money. Just as I was about to tell him about the disorganization that lead to this misunderstanding, he said he could do a gift certificate. Fast forward 3 weeks (because I didn't hear from him again) I went back in to the Scera and asked the front desk if there was anything for me as Shawn said he would leave it for me there. Nothing. I met him in the hallway and he told me there was nothing he could do. Even when I explained how I didn't receive the email, he said he could offer me Eagles tickets, performing in two days. That's all he could do. UGH. So long story short... (too late?) I feel like the Celebrity Competition is a hoax. It's just a way to get hopeful people to donate money and they could care less about the actual people who are involved. Shawn's customer service skills are lacking and I see no reason to give any more money to The Scera. It's sad because I grew up in Orem and the Scera has been a part of my community for so long, but I was not taken care of as a customer, not once, but twice now. read more

When I was a kid I could only afford to take my special girl friends there for a date. I loved the over-sized seats on every other row so when you did the yawn and stretch thing it wasn't so hard to do. The theater is clean and well maintained and walking through the lobby is like walking in to yesteryear. The building brings back wonderful memories of the "Happy Days" era I grew up in. The staff are friendly, concessions don't break you and there are NO LINES !!! read more

One of the few truly classics left. A history devoted to the arts. Clean. Providing children with the dignity they deserve as well as Senior Citizens. All of us from 6 to 60 should appreciate and promote this atmosphere. read more
