After picking her up last week after a standard groom, I noticed she was acting odd and showing discomfort. As the hours progressed, excessive gagging and coughing occurred and she was noticeably more uncomfortable. I took her to the emergency vet over the weekend and explained the symptoms plus groomer situation. Upon assessment, they identified a significant and large bruise across her chest/arm plus what they indicated was likely trauma to her trachea. Bloodwork confirmed muscle trauma. Their indication was the same as my instincts - something bad happened at the groomer. As we evaluated it, it was hard to understand how her injuries would align with an accident or an unknown incident. The groomer did not share that anything went awry during the visit and acted like all was okay at pickup. I will not be taking her back.

Recently the cost climbed to $130-$140, so I started asking for a breakdown of the charges. Unfortunately, the staff seemed irritated whenever I asked basic questions about pricing. There is no posted price list and no transparency about how they calculate the final bill. During my most recent visit, I had already combed my dogs before arriving. The employee at the front desk used a small comb on my dog's legs in a way that would naturally create tangles and then claimed there would be a dematting charge. I told him if they planned to charge that fee, I would rather take my dogs somewhere else. He took the dogs to the back and returned saying there would be no dematting charge, but added that if the dogs cried or had to be corrected during grooming there could be additional fees. I had never been told about that policy before. When I came back to pick them up, I was told the total was $75 per dog. When I asked for a breakdown of what the $75 included, the employee became extremely hostile and began yelling at the top of his lungs at me simply for asking about the charges. Even after asking multiple times, he could not provide any clear explanation of the pricing. Another concern I've had over time is that on more than one occasion my dogs came home with small cuts or what appeared to be bruising. I did not notice these issues until after we left. I cannot say exactly how it happened, but it raises concerns about whether the dogs are being properly supervised or handled during grooming. As a customer, I believe it is reasonable to ask for a breakdown of services being charged. Instead, I was met with hostility and extremely unprofessional behavior. Because of the lack of transparency in pricing, the concerns about how my dogs were handled, and the way I was treated when asking simple questions, I will not be returning and would caution others to be aware before bringing their pets here.

However, I've been VERY tired and grooming two mini goldendoodles is just a lot on me nowadays. Today I brought my girl up here for a an express wash and blow dry so I could just do her cut at home. I made certain to comb her out fully and remove any matting. I even confirmed with the front desk person that her coat was free of knots, tangles, etc. This is the second time they have done a very mediocre job at properly drying the coat. Not only was it not blown out all the way, she had THREE matted knots (leg, neck, rear) that were NOT there when I dropped her off. I expected to be able to jump right into using my clippers, it kept jamming up and I had to use my own forced-air dryer and slicker brush to get it smooth enough for the blades. I 100% understand that curly/wavy coated dogs like this require a bit more, but I didn't expect to have to go over 50% of the work I paid to have completed. Please look at the photos as you can see sections missing from the top of his head and around his beard. It seems like they are good with clippers but not hand scissoring or round faces. Considering I paid $152 for one full groomed 8lb dog and one bath / deshedding for a 30lb dog... I was expecting something a little more professional looking. The first boarding experience went smoothly. I received photos and videos of Mylo, which gave me peace of mind while I was away. Unfortunately, this most recent boarding experience was an absolute nightmare--primarily due to poor customer service and a complete lack of communication between Wayne and his staff. When booking the boarding appointment, I clearly told Shan (the receptionist) that I wanted Mylo groomed during his stay. She repeated the services back to me and took a deposit to confirm everything. I dropped Mylo off on Friday, and Wayne told me he'd be ready for pickup at 3 PM on Sunday. I informed him my sister would handle the pickup, and he handed me a sticky note with a phone number for her to call. While I was out of town, I received zero photos or updates about Mylo, which was already concerning based on my previous experience. Then, on Sunday at around 12:30 PM, I got a call from a woman at Happy Hearts asking if Mylo could be picked up by 1:30 because she "had something to do" and Wayne had "a work thing." This was a major inconvenience. She called twice more rushing my sister, and then told me she'd be leaving at 2 PM regardless. Before hanging up, I requested a call from Wayne--but instead, she just texted me: "Hey may call this number when your sister arrives please." At this point, I was genuinely concerned about Mylo's well-being. It didn't feel like I had boarded him with a professional business--it felt like leaving him with an unreliable friend. When my sister arrived, she called the number and rang the doorbell, but no one responded. Eventually, the number called back and Wayne facilitated the pickup. That's when we found out Mylo was not groomed during his stay. Later that evening, Shan texted me from her personal phone, apologized for the miscommunication, and said I could bring Mylo in on Monday because they had availability. I brought him in that morning, but the receptionist said there was no availability and he wasn't on the schedule. When I mentioned the text from Shan, she was surprised and only recognized the automated business system message--not Shan's personal message. Eventually, they agreed to groom him because, at that point, he was not leaving without service. Before leaving, I again asked for Wayne to call me. He finally did hours later--with a completely dismissive, unapologetic tone. I expressed how disappointed I was with the service, the lack of updates, and how concerned I felt not knowing if Mylo ate, drank, was walked, or was comfortable during his stay. His response? He blamed his staff and said "You or Shan didn't tell me he needed to be groomed." That's unacceptable. I communicated everything clearly with your staff. It's not my job to repeat instructions your team failed to relay. And just when I thought the experience was over, when I picked Mylo up after his grooming, the receptionist casually mentioned that she had photos and videos from his stay--yet I still have not received a single one. This entire situation was unprofessional, stressful, and deeply disappointing. What used to be a trusted business turned into a mess of excuses, finger-pointing, and poor leadership. I will no longer be using Happy Hearts, and I strongly recommend finding a grooming and boarding facility that prioritizes clear communication, professionalism, and genuine care for your pets.

Not only is this location far more convenient for us, but the staff has been consistently kind, attentive, and professional from the moment we walked in. Our dog, Simon, is usually the one who tells us how he feels about a boarding facility--his demeanor at drop-off and pickup says everything. He was happy going in and just as happy coming out, which speaks volumes. The team followed his medication regimen exactly as instructed, and when we called to check in during our trip, they immediately knew him by name and offered honest, thoughtful updates about his personality and behavior (he's more of a relaxed observer than an active playmate, which they picked up on right away). To top it off, the bath he received before pickup was excellent, and they even gave him a much-needed trim around his eyes--something we didn't expect but appreciated immensely. We feel genuinely cared for here, and Simon clearly does too. Dunwoody Pet Resort has earned our trust, and we'll be using them until further notice.
