It's been a little over a decade, but having required Scent Tek's services again, I do feel like a review update is owed them, given how much has changed with the business. And, while I absolutely hate that I needed to do anything bedbug related again, I do appreciate the huge step up in my experience here! The previous tech I use retired from the bedbug dog sniffing service at some point during COVID, which brought me back to Scent Tek as one of the few services in the Bay without a conflict of interest (a.k.a. also being a pest control company). Turns out that the original owners and dogs of Scent Tek had also retired as some point, with the business now being run by Jeff and Greg, along with their dogs Murphy and Charlie. Jeff and Murphy ended up being the ones that came out to my place (several times, in fact, given that I got what seemed like a positive hit in a suspect area the first time), and I found the overall experience to be a lot smoother, faster, and communicative than my experience a decade prior. I wanted to express my gratitude for this service. Scent-Tek was recommended to me by Bay Area Bed Bug, since we weren't sure quite what was biting my elderly relative. Felipe of Bay Area Bed Bug said that 9 times out of 10 at this time of year it is carpet beetles, not bed bugs-- but I figured the canine detection was the only way to be sure. Upon seeing the bites, Jeff of Scent-Tek immediately said they didn't look like bed bug bites-- and that they might very well be rat mites. They did a thorough sniff of the house, confirming no bedbugs. (Also, he knew what to look for around the bed, and there were none of those traces visually either.) He recommended having the attic and crawl space checked for decaying rodent bodies and sealing all notable entrances. Sure enough, after he left, my relative found a rat trap she had set in the crawl space and forgotten about! Gross! I'm awfully grateful that in the space of 24 hours we were able to put a definitive end to this misery. The price seems incredibly fair for the quick resolution provided-- and all the time my relative won't waste on misdirected bedbug treatments and angst. (And kudos to Bay Area Bed Bug for suggesting Scent-Tek rather than scheduling a pointless visit.) I now consider canine detection a precious resource. read more

Wow! I read the reviews and decided to book an appointment with Scent Tek. So easy to do online. Immediate response with confirmation including the name of the person assigned to the job, Jeff. Jeff texted, called and emailed me to confirm and he showed up right on time with his delightful dog, Murphy. He stayed outside the door to get Murphy in the right mode and told me to not engage with Murphy so that he stays focused on the job at hand. NO TREATS!!! After 10 minutes at the door Jeff came in with Murphy and led the way through the entire house with me following but not distracting because Murphy might think I have treats. An amazing and very thorough process. BTW, Jeff is very knowledgable about the behavior of these bugs. Learned a lot from him. Fortunately for me Murphy did not find any bedbugs and was very agitated because unfortunately for him that meant no treats. He kept looking just to make sure there might be a find with a treat involved. I did feel a bit sorry for Murphy as I bid goodbye from my now confirmed bedbug free zone. Another wonderful service from Scent Tek came in the invoice they sent to me via email on follow up and it had thorough instructions on how to avoid bedbugs on your travels. I booked them and they are happy to take the money without a thorough inspection. I was told there was no bed bugs in my apartment after my roommate came back from camping. This led to a delay in treatment as my roommate kept getting bit days after the inspection. We took the mattress off the bed frame and we saw multiple bed bugs on the mattress and bed frame. Greg and Jeff, and their dogs Charlie and Murphy respectively, are the best! They've done bedbug inspections three times for me now (Greg with Charlie twice, Jeff with Murphy once most recently). In each case, I'd gotten bug bites that I found suspicious, and had the possibility of bedbug exposure. Fortunately, all three times I passed inspection without bedbugs. Both Greg and Jeff were responsive to my calls and texts and able to offer me an appointment quickly. They were both on time, friendly, respectful of the property -- as were Charlie and Murphy. They took the time to do a thorough inspection and to explain to me bedbugs and other bugs that feed on humans. I tend to ask alot of questions (because the more I understand, the more I can either identify a problem or feel peace of mind), and Jeff and Greg were both patient and helpful in answering my questions. Charlie and Murphy are both obedient dogs and seemed to take their job seriously. Additionally, I found the prices quite reasonable, especially for a somewhat large house. I've never owned a dog (believe it or not!) but I found both Charlie and Murphy to be well-behaved, motivated, and absolutely adorable. I recommend these guys without hesitation! It was very easy to schedule online for next day appointment, Greg was super prompt, happily did minor extra things, was really pleasant with a really nice dog Charlie, who behaved with great professionalism except for a little excess interest in dirty socks. Both radiated honesty. Extremely considerate as visitors to the household. I was told ahead of time they would inspect a house of any size, and I also checked out our two cars. Bed bug scare! After a trip up the coast, all of a sudden I had all of these itchy bites all over my body. I called Orkin and they came out the same day, said I had bed bugs (only checked 1 bedroom), quoted me $4,000 for heat treatment, and encourage me to sign a contract right away. Ha! I wasn't born yesterday! I sensed a scam. . . I called Scent-Tek. Trained sniffer dogs are unbeatable when it comes to detecting bed bugs. Dogs' sense of smell is like 1,000 better than humans and they do not confuse scents. Greg came with his trained dog, Charlie (adorable!) and they found NO bed bugs. I trust them. Scent Tek ONLY does inspections, not services, so they are objective and have no incentive to find bed bugs if there are none. Thank goodness. Even if you have bed bugs, they give you excellent advice for how to move forward. This is the company you should contact if you are concerned that you have bed bugs. read more

We recently contacted Jeff on a weekend, panicking that we had bed bugs after we discovered that my son had a series of bites on his back. While awaiting a call back, I scheduled an appt online. He called us back very quickly. After describing our situation, he told us that he didn't think we had bedbugs & figured out that our son was likely bitten by mites (from laying on grass at soccer practice). He advised us to cancel the appt with him. He said I can come out and do it if you want, but I really don't think you have bed bugs and I don't think you need me. He generously spent 10-15 min on the phone with us and, most importantly, was honest! Many businesses would have come out anyway and charged us a fee for a service we didn't need, but he didn't. I was concerned about having bedbugs when our downstairs neighbor moved out and left all her furniture and things and shortly after I started waking up with strange bites. Jeff's amazing dog, Murphy, was incredible to watch in action- the nose that knows! Murphy thoroughly inspected our house and declared us bed bug free.
