Rumor has it, they've actually had paranormal activity take place on the tour, and not just orbs and stuff; DC the demon cat has showed up a couple of times.

While he was nice, he didn't have a lot to add off the track I pretty sure he had memorized. I actually feel like I heard most about which monuments had the best restrooms than much of anything else (we never asked about bathroom situations). Would I book this again, no. Here is what I learned, you still walk a fair amount into these monuments from where they drop you in the golf cart vs. the people who are on the bikes and scooters. If you're really looking for the least amount of walking and able to operate those that would save you time and money. Overall, there was no value for the price tag for us and the guide kind of ruined the experience.

Nathan, our tour guide was so friendly, personable and most important knowledgeable without feeling like we were in a classroom being lectured. He gave us plenty of time at all the sites. He even dropped us off at a Metro station after the tour and told us how to get to where we wanted to go, Postal Museum. Dropped us at Gallery Place and took the red line two stops to Union Station and the museum was right next door! Just wanted to make sure Nathan was acknowledged for his premiere service and I wanted to let you know how much my sister and I enjoyed the tour and set up our Saturday for a great day. We were on the first tour of the day to see where everything was and then spent the rest of the day going back to those places we wanted to see more of. And there were only 4 of us on the tour! THAT has never happened to me. A microphone for the tour guide and speaker wouuld be helpful if you are sitting further back in the golf cart. But overall. . . a 10 out of 10!

I have also been in D.C. for other government-related purposes and was able to take after-hours guided tours with a couple of different members of Congress (actual members and not a staffer). Any tour is a wonderful experience but most especially getting to take one in the hours after the hustle and bustle of The Hill comes to an end for the day. It's exciting to be on a tour when senators are holding hearings and you can actually sit in on them. The building is adorn with artwork, paintings, and sculptures that date back centuries. The architecture is awe-inspiring. So much to learn and see during the tours. There is a gift shop as well (but of course there is). A must for students (first time I took a tour) and adults alike. Anyone interested in the history of the United States should include this tour on a D.C. visit.

We took the Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour starting from Union Station. First of all, the woman selling…read morethe tickets inside of Union Station was very nice, but she was confused about a lot of things. There were 6 of us in our group, and she did say that if we purchased several tickets together (I think 4), we get a 10 percent discount. This was helpful, so we purchased all of our tickets together. On the ticket receipts, there were discount coupons for various things, and we had to show the bus driver the receipt every time we hopped back on. One of the discounts was supposed to be a free bicycle ride at The Wharf. So we got off at the Wharf & Potomac Boat Cruise. We left my elderly Mom and one other person in our group at Shake Shack on the wharf, and the rest of us proceeded to walk to the place where we could get on the bicycles. But it was not on or near the Wharf! We ended up walking for at least 30 minutes or more, to get to the bicycle rental place. It was an overcast day and it was drizzling, so that was not good walking a long distance. We finally found the place, and then found out that the coupon was not good for a free bicycle ride! It turned out that we had to pay for a one hour rental, and get one hour free. Well, since it took so long to walk there, we hardly had any time to bicycle, and everyone said "forget it, we'll pass." We were already tired, and ended up taking an Uber back to the wharf. The bus tour itself was fine. We were given headphone wires to plug into the bus seat, to hear the tour narration. We also found that the map of the stops were not logistically correct. For example, we wanted to see the White House, but when we exited at the corresponding stop (#17), it was a really long walk to the White House. We thought that one of the other stops on the map would have actually been closer to the White House, and the map gives the impression that the attraction is right where you hop off the bus. Since it was cold, windy and drizzly, it made walking long distances extremely unpleasant for many in our group. Although we didn't have any issues with our bus itself, I do want to mention that my sister's husband went on the same bus tour two days before us. He said that there was a problem with his bus, which flooded or something, and all passengers had to get off the bus, and they had to wait for another bus to pick them up to continue the tour.

If you're judging me right now, fear not, I'm also judging me. Yet, I'm still surprised because I clearly kind of liked everything I did. As someone who frequently ignores the tourist buses in NYC, I found it rather ironic that I'd be doing the same thing in DC. I have numerous family and friends throughout the area, yet none have ever bothered to take me on the kind of joyride that Doubledecker Tours has. After multiple trips to the DMV (#1) I've only had a chance to see the touristy sites with other out of towners. The ride was always relatively comfortable and it totally beats having to drive myself to any / all of these places. Hopping and off is the real sell in my opinion. It's one thing to listen to the spiel of the driver / host, but it's another to actually get off and explore the actual site. Just remember that taking pictures from the bus vs the actual location. Taking pictures from the bus is nothing close to doing it in person (#2) But of course, there are some things that aren't so great. Seats aren't exactly comfortable and taking pics is a real pain when the car is in motion. During peak months / travel times, the buses can get crazy crowded. It's also not exactly cheap, I think I paid $70 in my last day pass. I am sure the price is different for seniors and children. One last tip: Always check the weather the day of -- there's a chance it could rain and no one likes being subjected to a shower while on a bus. They may provide rain ponchos, but don't count on it. When it does rain folks tend to pack the lower level and it gets really stuffy and uncomfortable quick. ___________ (#1) DC, Maryland, Virginia. Yes, really. (#2) If this isn't obvious to you, stay on the bus. Don't ever get off.
