I had so much fun at Scarlet Salon! Universe is unbelievably kind and generous. I came in with 3 pictures of different hair in Japanese styles, as well as my reactions to each of the three cuts, so that we could come up with something that I would be happy with--and that was actually doable with how much hair I have on my head! After speaking with Universe about an inspiration board I provided of hime cuts I'd researched to try to get the perfect look--and admiring her stylish and classic shag's cute wave--we decided to go with a hybrid version of the three, so without the frame-y super-straight front bangs I had during my schoolgirl era, but still with some side action (see the ear cut in the image attached). I'm delighted with this phenomenal haircut and can't wait to come back. The conversation is light and warmhearted as well, making me feel welcomed and listened to. I was fairly nervous about getting my hair cut, and have been flat ironing it into shape since it grew out from a nicely cleaned-up wolf cut, with some leftover bleach toward the ends from some three hair changes ago. They put in some mousse that lifts the crown of my head well, and the shampoo set they used in the beginning smelled delectable, lightly fragrant. The salon ambiance is very relaxed and comfortable, airy and calming, with low strains of Fleetwood Mac on the stereo. Unfortunately I never got to try this salon. I was looking forward to my appointment today with Sarah when only hours before I received a text message from "Messaging Center" saying she double booked. I texted back and forth with this AI like assistant for hours (largely bc this Messaging Center was incredibly slow to respond) to see if Sarah could keep my appointment. At first it seemed she could but take me at 4pm instead of 3pm. Then it changed to Sarah no longer has any time. I had a three hour appointment booked so I said how about we do cut or color? I got very cold responses that she's unavailable and I could try another day. I asked if I could see someone else but this Messaging Center said they are only for Sarah. I tried contacting the salon but no one answered. Normally I'm pretty flexible but I really didn't have time for this today. I have a special (and rare) family reunion that now my hair won't be done for. And I won't have time to get my hair done for another four weeks. They really should've contacted me days ago to reschedule. And not wasted hours of my time today only to be cancelled within 30 min of my appointment start time. There should be better customer service for a nearly $500 cut and color. read more

I saw Ryan for a color service/balayage and he was absolutely the best. I was nervous coming in because I have very dark curly hair that's naturally dry and I was worried that coloring it would damage it or cause curl loss or loosen them. I communicated my concerns with Ryan and he took his time to listen and reassured me that we'll get the desired results without damage. There's only one way to say it, folks. Ryan has it all! I reached out to him when I was considering a major color correction and change from a deep brunette close to my natural in which I'd been covering gray with demi-permanent color to a platinum. I have a couple of friends who are really knowledgeable about hair color and they were concerned that I was leaping without looking. Unfortunately, they both live far away. I asked them what I should be looking for, and then patiently explained that stylists around here don't work like that. But then I met Ryan, and he did. I love this salon! I feel so pampered and special here. It's all female owned and operated and the vibe is very inclusive and friendly. The salon itself is charming and comfortable. Universe has been my hairdresser for 5 years and I totally put my trust in her when it comes to my hair. I allow her to be a little creative because she is such a skilled designer but she also listens carefully to anything I may ask of her. I really like that you can now pay for the amount of time the designer spends with you rather then a specific service. It's a set price by the hour and there is no tip involved. Just had another amazing cut by Sarah B. I first saw her with shoulder length hair and wanted to go to bob length, which she did perfectly. This time I was ready to go much shorter.
