A couple of years ago, I purchased two A/C units from Scaran. It took several visits to complete the job due to issues like wrong filters and a noisy compressor. Every time I changed the filters, they would get caught on something, so I finally decided to take a closer look. Besides the screws sticking out where the filter sits, I found a huge gap between the unit and the duct. Essentially, the system has been cooling the attic as well. I called Scaran, and they told me the installation is out of warranty. This is the last time I'll be dealing with this company. read more

I bought a new Lennox central air system in June 2017 based on Scaran's recommendation that Lennox was the better manufacturer because my Carrier/Bryant system kept failing. So far the A coil has failed twice and needed replacing. Today they charged me $299 to find the leak that took 5 minutes to look at the a coil and see the A coil failed again. They charged me $50 last year to put dye in the system because they didn't know where the leak is. Good thing I have the service plan with them or who knows what they would have charged me. read more

They are very responsive, knowledgeable and just very nice people to deal with. I have had a (luckily small) number of occasions where my airco went out on a hot summer day, and they showed up to fix the problem the same day I called. We had emergency service that needed to be done. Scaran was recommended and they arrived right away. We had to get a new boiler and hot water maker. They came in the morning and worked about 11 hours straight and even worked outside in the snow. The young men were so polite and courteous! Never asked for anything the entire day! They did an excellent job and even gave me more space for my washer and dryer. All trash was removed and left clean!! We are so grateful and will definitely use them for all our plumbing needs!! I had an issue with my tankless water heater and decided to use their services. I called and explained the problem, they assured me that they can fix the problem and someone would be coming shortly. They called Slightly before their arrival. The technician was an older gentleman, but he knew his stuff. He was unfamiliar with the brand, so it took him slightly less then 2 hours to diagnose and fix the problem. Unfortunately it went out a few hours later, leaving me with a cold shower. I called them back first thing in the morning and explained what had happened. They told me they would come out right away and stay until the problem was corrected, mind you it was new years eve. Finally, there was 3 employees who shared their experience and knowledge and git my hot water back. The employee are friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. The only negative is the service charge of $99.00 just to come out to your house, this doesn't include parts, labor, etc. They kept their promise and back up their work, I would recommend to anyone who needs this service. read more

I am writing this review for a friend who asked that I help her out: I bought a new unit for $8,000. The first week the unit broke. I told the owner that I have a medical condition and cannot be without air because I couldn't breathe. They sent a tech in the afternoon. The techs were knowledgable and considerate of my condition. After one week the unit broke again at 1 am. It got fixed by 1pm the next days. This is one week after the unit was installed. I asked the company for a price adjustment because I feel the unit is faulty. They told me that is not an option. I feel a company in business this long should accommodate a request such as this, considering my health issues and anxiety over waiting for a tech to come out. I've been a customer of Scaran's for almost 9 years now. I pay close to $500 a year for a 24/7 maintenance contract on my AC/Heater with humidifier. My heater stopped working tonight, Friday around 5:30pm. I called them at 6pm and after many rings, I finally spoke to someone at an after hours answering service. They told me a technician would call me back. 3 hours later I still did not receive a call back. I called once again a little after 9pm. Many rings later the same afterhours person picked up. They told me no one was on call now. 9pm on a Friday night! I pay a maintenance contact for 24/7 support! It's time to look elsewhere! read more

2 days later my AC started leaking again. I called Scaran back, they sent someone out right away. The technician told me I need a new unit or I could have them make me a new drip tray that would cost me around $800. We told them we would like to have the estimate done for the new unit and also to have an exact price for the tray. We were told we would get a call the next day to schedule an appointment for the estimates. Never got a call back. Paid over $200 to fix my unit for 2 days. Our furnace was not working on a cold winter day. We called Scaran to service the furnace. They charged us $99 to diagnose and another $330 to replace a faulty igniter. The igniter is a simple fix that takes less than 5 minutes to replace. I later found out that these igniters cost $30 at the hardware store. Scaran charged us $430 to replace a $30 problem. Our complaints went unheard at Scaran as the manager there claimed that was the cost of doing business. I have lived here for over 35 years and my parents who are senior citizens would never have been able to replace that faulty igniter, although it is a simple fix, they are simply unable to do it, (Dad does not see well and Mom is just clueless) . Scaran however, seemed more than willing to let them go cold than to reduce their exhorbant fees. I do not recommend Scaran based on the fact that they knowingly take advantage of an urgent situation (we had no heat and the temp was 20 degrees) to overcharge a service that should have been at most $200. read more

We have used Scaran services for years for our 2 family house. We have 2 gas furnaces,hot water heater, central air for the 2nd floor and 3 ductless units for the first floor AC. Scaran services all of them. When it was time to replace the water heater and then the central AC Scaran did the job. Honestly, we could not have chosen a better company to install our new Lennox Central AC system. After getting 5 quotes from different companies on the Island, Scaran offered us the best bang for our buck. The AC unit operates like a dream and their customer service couldn't be more responsive. Just had them put in central air... in a 1950's center hall colonial with no duct work and only a crawl space attic. Expected a total mess and weeks of construction. They designed a great system and foresaw every problem. Very knowledgeable. Took 4 days to do 8 rooms... and not a speck of dust when they were done. It was their office miscommunications on type of AC and that tech started blaming me and argue/dismissing the customer and told customer to buy AC at Home Depot and replace it. I called Scaran because I was having an issue with my furnace. The tech that came was very friendly and quickly diagnosed that the heat exchanger was cracked and due to the age of the furnace, I would be better off replacing the whole unit. He offered to schedule an appointment with one of their sales reps. Then he told me it would be approx $90 for the service call. Although I understand a charge for coming out, it took him five minutes with a flashlight to find the problem and he did not do any sort of work to correct it. I thought the fee was excessive and would have appreciated being informed of the cost before the appointment. I gave him my credit card and signed for the charge. Fast forward two months and I start getting calls from someone claiming to be in their accounts department stating that I still owed for the service call. I asked this woman to send me a statement and I would check with my credit card company to see if the charge was applied to my account. It took almost another month for the statement to arrive from Scaran but in the interim, this woman called again threatening to take me to collections. My credit card company had no record of them even attempting to charge my card and there was a full line of credit to cover this small charge. Finally, after almost three months since the service call, I received a statement which I promptly paid by check. Save yourself the hassle and use a company with better bookkeeping practices. I have a new heating system plus water heater from Scaran, almost 3 years old. Brand new Water heater leaked, assumed it should be under warranty and called up the company. Since I did not purchase a service contract from them after the initial warranty of 2 years, I would need to pay 100 for a tech to come out and take a look. I told them what was wrong! The water heater they installed was faulty and leaked! I assumed the water heater would be covered since its not even three years ---THe tech said yes its covered but I would need to pay $750 for labor to install plus the $100 for the tech to come out and tell me what I already knew! HORRIBLE experience with Scaran. I am doing an oil to gas conversion in my home and the sales manager explained to me that I should have the new gas furnace in my home within the next 2 weeks. Last week I came home to find that the workers popped the lock on the back door and let themselves in without my knowledge or consent. I received no warning that workers would be coming to my home on that day or the extent to the work. The work that they completed left my basement a mess, with wire hanging, boxes thrown on the floor, ceiling tiles torn down and rubble all over the place. The new water heater was in a very bad location which never received my approval. I would never recommend this company to anyone. read more

So I was going out the door on my way to work this morning and found a signifcant puddle of water around the base of my central a/c air handler unit in the basement. Certainly not good on the hottest first day of the end of summer season. So I checked a couple of things that i could but quickly found that I needed to call a professional. So I called SCARANstraight away. To be perfectly clear my service call didn't start out so good - a little miscommunication on both parts I think. I did call back to follow up and it got way better after that. Turns out that after a long, hot holiday weekend I wasn't the only one with a/c issues - imagine that ... lol. Anyway I was nformed that there were service calls ahead of mine but was assured that someone would be at my home between 12:30 and 5 PM (I called back at around 10 AM; my first call was at 8:15 AM). I was a captive audience at this point but hoped for the best. And my hope was rewarded - I received a courtesy call that the team scheduled to visit my home was ahead of schedule and would be at my home around 11:30 AM - and they were. The two man team (John B. and Gary) were courteous, knowledgable, professional and thorough. Turns out that my problem was not as serious as I thought and these fine gentlemen took care of it quickly and skillfully. They even gave me a few helpful hints so it doesn't happen again. The service charge was fair and reasonable - certainly a pleasant surprise to cap off my now positive experience. This was certainly the best outcome I could have hoped for.
