Breakfast buffet was really nice at the restaurant, and for £7.50, is pretty good value for unlimited hot grub. The dinner menu looked pricey though, and I would suggest eating outside the resort. There is a swimming pool, gym, sauna, and steam room in the complex next door too.

As for the breakfast, typically Scottish, with "Pete's Porridge" a must. Both proprieters very much "hands on" and clearly experienced, and happy in the business. The maintenance guy came over "to help us get it sorted"... another words - turn it on. Ha! Big puffy down blankets kept us warm, it's cold at night here (June). Big hotel with rooms to rent on the property. They had play areas, kids video and play areas too. Pool had really weird hours. Apparently it was disinfected every few hours or some such nonsense AND you had to make an appointment for available times (in mid-day). I think that would have been fun but didn't use it. An area outside with growling moving Dino's... large enough to be fun for kids... a surprise for us! We loved the extensive trail system and the ruins of a local castle on a tiny island in the lake. Trails are well marked. People were nice, staff was helpful. Area was pretty and quiet. Centrally located. Great transit system; we made appointments to see local attractions via trains / bus - gotta get the timing right and pay ahead. Note: there are stiff fines for cars traveling inside Edinburgh and London- check on this before you drive!

We stayed in one of the A-frame cabins on the property. It was about a ten minute walk to the main hotel building, which we were okay with as there were families with children running all around the main hotel building. The cabins were perfect for four of us who wanted to sleep, read and catch up with each other. Cabins are well laid out and nicely furnished. The Hilton Coylumbridge is outside of Aviemore by a little less than a mile. That meant any meals with alcohol in Aviemore meant one of us had to be a designated driver. We did take advantage of the on-site restaurant our last night, so all four of us were able to eat, drink and be merry. We will be back.

We picked Aviemore as our central point to visit Scottish points of interest both East, West and nearby. We also wanted to self cater most of our meals to save on costs. When our travel agent recommended Lurcher's Cabin we realized this would fit our bill. The Tesco grocery store had everything we wanted to cook. The Strathspey Railway old steam train is a few minutes walk. Our girls loved the Wildlife Park nearby. The cafes of Aviemore were very nice. All thanks to having a cabin nearby. The cabin itself is extremely luxurious and had some facilities we envied for our own home back in Texas. The owner of the cabin, Pat, was welcoming and gracious on arrival and she explained everything we needed to know about the cabin and attractions close by. We would love to return again.

We got hungry while driving through Cairngorm National Park, so we got off the A9, ended up in Carrbridge, saw a sign about meals being served all day and stopped in. The dining room itself was nice and clean, and the gentleman working as bartender and server was quite friendly. The menu is varied, including traditional Scottish fare, pasta, Indian dishes, and kebabs. I ordered the Cullen Skink-- a thick, potato-based fish soup similar to clam chowder-- and it was delicious. My husband tried the spicy beef kebab and said it wasn't spicy and the garlic mayo was odd, but that the beef itself was great. I can't speak to the hotel itself, but if you find yourself in this bit of the Highlands, this is a good place to stop for a quick bite to eat.

The doors open and often immediately slam shut before anyone can get on. Then, if one has made it on the lift the doors slam shut after only one peron has exited. The hotel has onsite amenites such as a bar and an Italian restaurant, Giovanni's, that were always closed. Giovanni's is prominently advertsed and the room guide says it is open daily. When asked, the front desk staff said it is only open on weekends. We were here in September, and the hotel was full of coach tour clientele. Breakfast is not served on site but in the conference centre next door requiring a walk outside. Breakfast was sparse and the buffet ran out of food. I needed to alert the hostess before it was replenished. For the most part if one wants to eat or drink one must walk into the village. The hotel itself could do with some refurbishment. I cannot recommend this hotel.

It was an extra treat for our group to be paraded in that 3 minute walk to the dinner venue by a Scottish bag-piper. My guess is he was part of the hotel dinner package as opposed to a tour guide special. Dinner was held in a quite large dining room and it was apparent this resort was designed for big prime time crowds. For dinner, we had a set 4 course meal. Each person was also given a half-shot of The Famous Grouse blended Scotch whisky for a toast to the evening. I also had a nice Cairngorm IPA. The 4 courses were a haggis with mashed potatoes appetizer, a cullen skink soup (smoked fish chowder), a chicken breast with vegetables entree, and a cranachan for dessert. The food quality was in the a-ok range. I'll go with a 4.49 rating overall for the fun dinner outing here.
