The most family friendly hotel in Scotland and the holiday lodges give even more room, but still allow use of the hotel's facilities

    Carrbridge Hotel - Reception

    Carrbridge Hotel

This review is for the "Grill Room Restaurant" only…read more We happened upon the Carrbridge Hotel on our road trip day heading from the Highlands down to Stirling. We got hungry while driving through Cairngorm National Park, so we got off the A9, ended up in Carrbridge, saw a sign about meals being served all day and stopped in. The dining room itself was nice and clean, and the gentleman working as bartender and server was quite friendly. The menu is varied, including traditional Scottish fare, pasta, Indian dishes, and kebabs. I ordered the Cullen Skink-- a thick, potato-based fish soup similar to clam chowder-- and it was delicious. My husband tried the spicy beef kebab and said it wasn't spicy and the garlic mayo was odd, but that the beef itself was great. I can't speak to the hotel itself, but if you find yourself in this bit of the Highlands, this is a good place to stop for a quick bite to eat.

Strathspey and Badenoch provide a wealth of facilities and attractions throughout the year for the whole family. Golfing, loch or river fishing, horse riding, hill walking, mountain biking, canoeing and wind surfing are just some of the vast range of activities available close by. Aviemore Mountain Resort, at the foot of the Cairngorms, is one of Scotland's leading ski resorts and is only a 20 minutes drive.

The doors open and often immediately slam shut before anyone can get on. Then, if one has made it on the lift the doors slam shut after only one peron has exited. The hotel has onsite amenites such as a bar and an Italian restaurant, Giovanni's, that were always closed. Giovanni's is prominently advertsed and the room guide says it is open daily. When asked, the front desk staff said it is only open on weekends. We were here in September, and the hotel was full of coach tour clientele. Breakfast is not served on site but in the conference centre next door requiring a walk outside. Breakfast was sparse and the buffet ran out of food. I needed to alert the hostess before it was replenished. For the most part if one wants to eat or drink one must walk into the village. The hotel itself could do with some refurbishment. I cannot recommend this hotel.

I'd definitely try another hotel or BnB in the area.

No reception - just a buzzer with a voice. Finally I live person came down with a sticky note. Really - not good customer service. Very little customer service! All we were told was room would not be ready until after 5 - check in is 4:00. No coffee maker, lumpy pillows and mattresses. Parking is a joke! A bag of cleaning supplies, bin liners and bags for linen were left on our dining table. Very unprofessional. The only upside - shops and restaurants are close.

I returned this year for the first time in 20 years and I was pleasantly surprised. This is a timeshare resort, set within a quiet position in the Aviemore Highland Village. You have views in all directions of the Highland mountains. The resort is a mixture of apartments and 2 bedroom houses. Scandinavian pine is the dominant feature, which provides the units with a practical but homely feel. They are spacious and the 2 bedroom houses can sleep up to 8 (one twin/double room, 4 bunks in the second room, and double sofa bed in the lounge). There is plenty of storage space and small shared garden space ideal for BBQs (Scottish weather permitting!). The units have all the mod cons including a flat screen TV, DVD player, washing machine and dishwasher. The only facilities beside the chalets are a small play park for children (which kept the 4 year old and 2 year old with me occupied for quite some time). As part of your stay you also get unlimited access to the McDonald Highland Village pool which includes a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi and is only 5 minutes walk away. There are plenty of other nearby attractions for all weather conditions from a cinema, to an outdoor adventure park (Landmark), to numerous walking and cycling routes. Shops are nearby including a small Tesco and a range of cafes, bars and restaurants. I am definitely not going to leave it so long before I return again!
